European Places Clarification

From a Motherwell point of view, it is probably the ideal set of results from the Semi Finals.

1) Aberdeen and Craig Brown don't make a Scottish Cup Final, and a subsequent Europa place.

2) Celtic don't make the final, meaning the Runners-Up receive no European place.

So, as it stands.

Celtic + 3rd Place in the SPL will get a Champions League Qualification Entry

Winner of the Scottish Cup (hopefully Hearts) receives the furthest Europa place.

and then the remaining two slots of the top 6 will be in the Europa.

So, basically if Hearts win the Scottish Cup, we are guaranteed European football next season in some capacity, even if the worst case scenario happens and we finish 6th.

Whereas if Celtic had made the final then Hibs would have been guaranteed a Europa spot and subsequently the team who finishes 6th in the SPL would be the only team to miss out.

Can someone convincingly tell me who we could get in the Champions League?

I am told that it is the 2nd-placed team from Holland, Russia, Ukraine, Turkey or the 3rd-placed team from Portugal. Can anyone confirm this?

it looks like ukraine, portugal and russia are definites. most likely cska and either shaktar or dynamo kiev from ukraine or braga or benfica from portugal.

the 4th one is up in the air. alkmaar, psv, twente, hevereen and feyenoord are all in a 4 way battle for 2nd in holland.

panathaniakos have got 2nd in greece wrapped and have a higher points total than hevereen, az alkmaar and feyenoord so if one of those teams gets the place in holland the greeks would be the 4th seeded team.

The rest looks correct but this is wrong. PAO at this time are a maximum of 3 points ahead of AEK in fifth. You have forgot to figure in the playoff Round-Robin which would see PAO's points total changed (as with everyone elses. As it stands it is (with two games to go before Split)

PAO - 3pts

Atromitos - 1pt

PAOK - 0pt

AEK - 0pts

They are due to play each other twice - once at home and once away.

i was unaware of the vagaries of the greek league system. the sportsound crowd would love that set up.

considering that info it looks to me like one from cska moscow, dynamo kiev, shaktar donetsk, benfica, braga, psv, twente, az alkmaar, panathaniakos and fenerbahce.
