Congratulations to those elected/re-elected. 4 strong candidates. I sympathise with those who missed out as there were some very strong candidates there. Hopefully their expertise can be put to good use maybe by co-opting them onto the Board. It's an onerous task even for a full complement of 9.

Since I am American and I lost the election, I feel only fair to call it rigged and stolen election. Trump would be proud. LOL. I am clearly joking for those who dont get the joke.

We get it, but don't you be storming Fir Park, wrecking the offices, furniture and getting your picture taken on the managers chair. 🤣

Agreed - it looks like a good set of candidates were elected.

A little surprised the voter turnout was quite so low given all the action around the takeover bid, but happy with the results.

A turnout of less than 25% is poor, are the other 75% not interested, don't care etc. If the WS is to step up after the Barmack episode then it's the disillusioned 75% that they need to appeal to.

More likely that there were too many suitably qualified candidates for people to try and whittle down, so many just didnt bother assuming whoever got in would do a good job.

I only got 2/4 of my votes in but I cant say Im disappointed by the result as the other 2 were on my shortlist anyway.

Regardless. We now have a strong Society Board. We now need a strong Executive Board and a far clearer constitution / standing orders or whatever you want to call it to ensure the Executive Board can be held accountable for decisions in the future!

After consideration, myself and others have removed/cancelled our WS memberships as from today.

We will continue to support the club in other ways but can no longer support the WS when elected members such as Derek are expressing deep political views on well known social media platforms that don't represent and promote our club in good light.

That's three strong additions to the board as well as Derek staying on. Hopefully the people that missed out will still be able to contribute.

Derek is a bell end as his current social media Bobby Sands love in shows

Divisive , stupid and shows that he cares more about his own politics than the success of the 'Well society but tbf he isnt the only one on the board that applies to

I've spoken to a number of people that have parked their subs over concerns about the current board , this forum echochamber can laud them til the cows come home however the vote turn out speaks for itself IMO in regards to where the swell of the support sees the society and the confidence that it has in it at present

I suppose the acid test would be if a player posted such sentiments. How would our support react? Would it adopt a philosophical approach and shrug its shoulders or would there be an outcry?

An interesting comparison might be Cammy MacPherson at St Johnstone.

The idea that if your on the Well Society board you need to be politically neutral is daft. It's not the fucking BBC or the Royal Family.

You should have took a leaf out the Ulster men's book and put up a Loyalist candidate.

You should have the well society front an centre , politics 2nd , IMO , potty mouth

Not sure what the second paragraph ramblings have to do with anything

Any comment on the turn out ?

Don't think there is any need for foul language, surely we are adults and can behave like adults?

Most members don't want to be involved in the running of the Society. As long as is there is enough active members for the Society to function then I don't see a problem.

That is simply your opinion. Myself and several others fear that it will represent the club in bad light - Already cancellations have been registered, how many more to go?? I know of a few that are also seeing our concerns

Interesting responses here.

I probably shouldn’t need to reply, but whilst on a trip to Belfast where I’ve visited both sides of the community and shared photos of both on my personal Instagram, it’s quite telling that the poster above has only lifted one’s from one side.

To suggest that either offers political opinion is simply note true.

I'll guess we'll just need to see what happens.

Given that he's just been re-elected it doesn't seem to be a problem with a good number of Society members.

Trust me when I say "I beg to differ" - Several people are fully aware and it is indeed fact - However, everyone has their own views and opinions and that should be respected. As another person above did mention, Politics should not be related to football and when we have and "elected" member broadly promoting his beliefs and political position, In my own personal opinion don t think he is for this role.

Early doors and the majority failed to register a vote.

Derek isn't a paid club member though. Cammy also retweeted something in support of Tommy Robinson. I assume that SPL clubs have rules around social media posts - I'd be surprised if the well society do. Otherwise you risk people being censured for posts they are posting on their own social media. (Maybe not explained that very well but I'd be very surprised if someone who was known for being political would stop tweeting about politics just because they are a well society board member)

Paid or Unpaid - He is still representing our Club, end of story.

Football and politics have been intertwined from pretty much day one, and people should be able to express their views, whether political or otherwise, on social media should they wish.

You can choose not to follow the person, or choose not to be triggered by it.

Welcome to the American/living in America contingent of 'well fans. We'll be bigger than the East of Scotland branch soon enough.

It's not even that political.

Millions of people have taken the Belfast mural tours, 13 million people voted for Corbyn for PM. It's fairly tame stuff.

Well aye, that’s also a point.

An Instagram story of a Bobby Sands mural followed by one of King Billy doesn’t suggest any political leanings but that doesn’t suit the narrative.

If you wanted to dig up political posts from today, they could have highlighted when I was critical of the Scottish Government on rail fares but again, maybe that doesn’t suit the narrative.

If we’re going to talk about club representatives being political; Jim McMahon appeared on BBC Question Time (or maybe it was Debate Night) whilst he was in the role. He was also pictured campaigning for Scottish Labour whilst Chairman. I should add that I’ve absolutely no issue with that whatsoever, but it’s worth highlighting. Is it that we don’t want people associated with the club posting about politics or we don’t want them posting about politics that you don’t agree with?
