In the longer term, however, it generates significant amounts of cash for them that widens the gap in finances, and makes it easier for them to invest in better players. Dundee Utd looked good this evening and it was an excellent result for Hibs. Top six may be a little more challenging this year. I understand what you are saying and I have very mixed emotions about seeing our rivals succeed. Good for the coefficient and good for the standard of Scottish football in general but it does makes Motherwell's task all the more difficult. On balance I welcome the success because I think it will directly and indirectly raise the standards at our club too. Scottish football has been in the doldrums for too long so it needs some success. joewarkfanclub
I get the financial arguments, but Id just like our league to have a higher profile. 2 good results last night and United in particular were pretty impressive. Hopefully we can take advantage of a fixture pile up and get a tilt at a league phase next season!
weeyin
I'm all for Scottish Clubs doing well in Europe. As you say, it raises the profile of the game, and I enjoy watching teams like Utd and Hibs in their Euro games. It still hurts us, though, when they can afford 2 or 3 better players next season. MJC
It definitely does not help our cause when clubs like Dundee Utd are able to rake in good money for good results in Europe. We can’t really complain though as whenever we have qualified for Europe we have utterly embarrassed ourselves and got well and truly humbled. That’s the thing that’s always annoyed me about us and European qualification, the way the club and most of the support seem to hold mere qualification up as a kind of trophy and how we actually perform once we’re actually there is almost an after thought. It’s the same with Scotland when they qualify for the Euros. ”Big leap to the left YAAAAASS! Big leap to the right YAAAAASS! We’re all goin on a European tour YAAAAAAS!” ”Who cares if we get gubbed let’s just enjoy it WOOP WOOP!”

But if we can make it to Europe with a half decent team then next season we can haul in some extra cash from Europe.

I’ve no idea how you fitted that in due to all the fishing trips you go on. 3
