Agree. He's done a great job with Falkirk, but the our new manager has to be hired with a view to progressing even further next season and I don't see McGlynn fitting that role. We might be mince next season, of course, but we should aspire to being even better.

Why would we want him in the 1st place, weve been down the scottish manager route, and decided we want something better to move the club forward, oh and for me hes not that good a manager. A few good seasons and got a top 6 finish this year but after the season weve had can you really see the board appointing him, no feckin chance.

No chance Falkirk are bigger than us. Similar sized club and support. But our history in the top flight and European football edges it in our favour. No way McGlynn moves here though. He is onto a sure thing at Falkirk. We cant pay him significantly more to risk that. Neither should we. Stick to the plan! 🧡❤️🧡

Great post. 4yr deal is bonkers. 2yr deal more realistic. This is the guy who wasn't renewing then suddenly changed his mind. If he gets us out group stage then clears out the dross then I might give him more time

Falkirk aren't bigger than us. Time at the top level means something. McGlynn would be daft to move from that gig unless he gets a significant pay raise. My guess is he will end up at Dundee Utd in September when Goodwin has a bad start to the season.

I don't think he'd come, and I don't really want him to come, but I think you'd lose the "bigger than us" argument for the 2026 versions of both our clubs. What would bring him to Fir Park could be more money, a crack at Europe and a squad that doesn't depend on 5 or 6 loan players every season. (and a stadium with 4 sides )

By handpicking, I didn't mean not making it available. I meant they can choose to make part of it available - the part that does them less or no damage - and we wouldn't know if anything was missing.

Precisely my point. If its not made available, we should be asking why not. I dont really want to dwell on this but you can still demand transparency without the expectation of it, and highlight the lack of it when it occurs. Might end up with a sign on our backs again right enough.....

Why would John McGlynn leave Falkirk and join Motherwell. They’re arguably as big a club if not bigger than we are.

Clarke definitely took a shambles of a Scotland outfit and turned it around into a team that was difficult to beat and that the players wanted to part of. And no doubt he did well to qualify for our first Euros. The way we performed in those finals was embarrassing and 100% down to his tactics. I would have punted him then, but was prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt given it was our first Finals in 200 years or whatever. When we got to our second Euro Finals our performance was even worse. Literally no lessons learned from the first debacle. That, for me, was when Clarke absolutely had to go. Fair play for what he had achieved, but he had more than reached his limit as a coach by then. Anyone who watched or World Cup qualifiers could see were dead lucky to make it. Outplayed in multiple games with only moments of individual quality rescuing us in spite of the insipid tactics played. In that last game against Denmark, they battered us for most of the game. As happy as I was to see us win, and with some cracking goals, our 30% possession in must-win home tie says it all. Even with 10 men, they were the better side. It was a miserable performance with miserable tactics once again rescued by 3 moments of individual quality. A classic Clarke approach, and with no change in approach to squad selection, I expect every game to be a grind in the US regardless of how far we do or don't get. Now was the time to bring in someone more progressive and take full advantage of some of the more talented players we have available.

TBH over the period Clarke has been good for Scotland BUT… why extend is contract now , we could easily , probability and likely go out with a whimper - time to replace and give someone else the opportunity . overall poor decision

Maybe not. But in the interests of transparency we should still hear it. Even if all it does is annoy us all summer. Keeps the boiler stoked for next season and the first shitty decision that comes our way.

I look forward to seeing a 38 year old Kenny McLean and Grant Hanley included, despite not even playing club football, with Clarke commenting how impressive they've looked during kickabouts with their kids in the garden.

Bugger . His adventurous, cavalier, forward thinking, slick passing ,attacking style would have suited us perfectly. He would have been an asset for the club at the weekly jurno interviews aswell.

At least we can rule him out for Motherwell job 😂
