I started going to fir park was in 1968 and Dixie was one of the stars of that team that steamrollered their way to winning the second division . But despite his many goals my main memory of Dixie was in the new year game at Hamilton where him and Lamont the arses goalie were in the middle of the six yard box punching lumps out of each other and unsurprisingly both sent off. Yet another in a list of players over the years that Celtic have stolen from us . RIP Dixie
- Today

Dixie was one of the first heroes of mine. Gave opposition centre halfs a torrid time with his ability to "hang" in the air and shall we say "combatitive" style on the ground. Gave Mike England of Spurs the run around in our Texaco Cup tie. RIP
-
Now that we are all much more comfortable with Jensball, Im all up for more Cruyff Turns on top of our unecessary passes & dribbles! Just need to sort the striker berth to get back to having more high goal shoots! 😆😆😆
-
Never saw Dixie play but my auld man raved about him. I imagine if we had someone like him right now we would win the league! RIP Dixie.
-
According to Watt, he recruited himself.
- Yesterday
-
Was actually thinking about our recruitment and when Kettlewell in charge loads of folk were slating Nick Daws. However I wonder how many of recent signings he was involved with. Maswanhise obviously when SK in charge but I wonder if longelo, Watt were his, if yes then great recruitment. Just and Said defo JBA spotted and I assume Fadinger was a Wimmer signing. When things going badly everyone slates scouting system but I think credit due for some of the gems we have unearthed
-
RIP Dixie, like others of a certain age, he was an early hero of mine and I was devastated when he left for Celtic. He also ran the Railway Tavern in Carluke when I lived there, A decent wee pub.
-
Yes, amazingly good in the air for a wee guy and pretty fearless: some great memories from my early teens.
-
Aye you've jinks that now 😱
-
Interesting info……. Or not 😃 Utd have worst discipline record 41Y 1R We have the best discipline record 20Y 0R hopefully we can avoid loosing players to suspension and of course, injuries
-
Outside of Slattery, I'm pretty sure our better players are signed up. I'd say its probably too early to sell the likes of Watt and Just, but the manager has talked a lot about our aim being to sell players on, so I wouldnt be too surprised if it did happen.
-
Encouragement or slur? 😂
-
I’m hoping we do not sell any of Our “good” players in January and that they are on contracts where we are in no rush to sell.
-
Yes he did in the 2-2 draw about a month before he quit
-
I am not saying a few folk might have said something but I am starting to see a pattern in Kettlewells behaviour it's exactly panning out how he left us and it seems to be playing it again. He is very deflection based injuries, rub of the ball, bad decisions going against the team nothing to do with his own bad tactics and such. I think it's Mr Kettlewell that needs to have a look at himself in the mirror due to his abusive behaviour its not the first time let's be honest.
-
Did he not get sent off for abuse when we were playing Rangers too?
-
There were allegations of abuse, but nothing to substantiate them. I hadn't heard about threats - thats another level. His case is undermined somewhat by his treatment of match officials ie Saturday. I doubt he was red carded for wishing the official a merry Christmas.
-
A boyhood hero of mine. A tough wee stiker who could mix it. When he left to go to Glasgow, I thought the world would come to an end. It didn't though. Although only 5-9 in height he was great in the air. RIP Dixie.
-
I was pretty young when I saw him play, but he was another one that set my expectations high at an early age. With his prolific goal scoring exploits followed shortly afterwards by a Mr. W. Pettigrew, I thought that's how it always worked with centre forwards. (I know better now). I had a few of these bubble gum cards in my collection too
-
Yes, he was a tough and skilful low-centre-of-gravity goalscorer and I was very disappointed to see him leave for Celtic (like Joe McBride before him). Reputedly the last player to score a goal by shouldering the goalie over the goal-line. IIRC it was against Dundee at the Taggart's end.
-
He was that. RIP Dixie
-
I'd be happy to let Connelly play as he does have some decent first team experience, albeit at a lower level. Plus, in the games he did play this season, he looked very comfortable in our new system with the ball at his feet. I agree, however, we need 3 on the books.
-
On Ox, Killie are in trouble because they neglected to have a competent backup keeper, and decided to go with an unproven kid instead. Then all it took was one injury to really mess them up. I think connelly is probably better than the guy Killie has, but it would still be a big risk letting Ox move without bringing in a decent backup.
-
January we need a LB and a CB to strengthen the squad. If Halliday goes another CM as well Allan Campbell still a FA so we could do worse than bringing him back as cover for half a season. Then we need to look at can we offload Nicholson, Stuperavic, Balmer. If Robinson is back fit maybe even end Osongs loan and keep him as 3rd choice. Finally identify targets to replace Maswanhise and Welsh as they are probably the 2 we're most likely to lose in January. We have 6 Sts on our books at the moment Stama, Hendry, Osong, Robinson, Stuperavic, Sule Need to shift 2 or 3 wages there imo. Also was rumours before Oxborough got injured that Killie we're looking at him so if Jens doesn't fancy him can't see us making that a difficult deal to do.

Final thing i will say is i remember Brian Caldwell being shocked when SK told him his decision. Surely if SK had concerns why did he not tell the club and they could have acted and put measures in place? Anyway he done us a favour as if he hadn't quit we wouldn't have got JBA, with Wimmer in-between
