  1. Past hour
  2. In my lifetime: Legend - Tommy McLean For entertainment - McCall Worst - Malpas by a mile Drama - Jim the loose cannon Gannon
  3. True. Was not really sure what he was. 😂
  4. Maskant was a centre half, a not very good centre half.
  5. If John Gardiner isn't in everybody's nightmare 11, then consider yourself lucky you never saw him play.
  6. Malpas was a key player in a Dundee Utd team that at it's peak, not only won the League, but proved they were one of the best teams in Europe. Jim McLean's team was talented and tactically astute. He had also played in World Cup and Euro finals. So when Malpas took over at Fir Park, I was looking forward to him bringing some of that experience to our team, and instilling them with some tactical nous we had previously lacked. Turned out the only thing he had learned from McLean was how to be miserable.
  7. Best Legend Tommy McClean Success and played with style. Worst football to watch as per anti football and agricultural football. Robinson and Kettlewell.
  8. Best Tommy McLean just no contest. Took over a club in terminal decline. Finally built a great team over his 10 years, allowed us to build the stadium. Worst( a few contenders) : Jock Wallace, Malpas, Harri Kampman, Rodger Hynd, Bobby Watson, Billy Davies. They might not have had resources (except Billy Davies) but neither did others who made a better fist of it. Wee Davies is in there because he had the biggest budget outside the OF and took us to the heights of mediocrity. Malpas probably wins the award outright.
  9. I bumped into McCall in 2016 in reception of bbc studios ( long story) anyway basically I went up to him and said I was a well fan and he chatted away for about 5 mins.......sadly I then started to throw in a few jokes! ( just kidding). Cracking guy, had a lot of time for him
  10. I was genuinely footballing depressed under Malpas I was living in Germany at the time travelling back for games and the flights home I was turning into a borderline alcoholic lol. In recent times will always have a soft spot for McCall thought he had us playing some decent stuff and was just good for the club in general.
  11. Today
  12. Nightmare 11 Chapman Defence Dornan, Zak Jules, Craigan, Murray Midfield . Harry Robinson, Andy roddie, maskant, tavares, Front 2 Sheridan, Shivute Subs Stevie woods, Hendry, Jacob Blythe, Clancy, Plange
  13. Best for thrills Terry Butcher. Best for the Club ,signed Davie Cooper and a cup winner Tommy McLean. Worst by a mile Maurice Mr Charisma Malpas.
  14. Good call on Ian St. John. We would likely never had signed Bobby Graham if it wasn't for the influence of his old team mate.
  15. Given the way Simo likes to play, I hope so.
  16. I'll mention Ian St.John as one if the best. I believe it was his masterstroke of pairing Bobby Graham and Wullie Pettigrew. The best striking partnership that I've seen in my time supporting The 'Well. Other greats have been Tommy McLean (obviously) and Wullie McLean for some great days in the mid-70's when the Premier League was formed. Some great cup days. Good include McCall, Robinson, McGhee (Mk 1), Butcher for reasons already mentioned in the thread. On Roger Hynd, I seem to recall that his tenure started with an 8-game unbeaten run. In the 9th game, 2-0 up against Rangers, their fans invaded the pitch and got the game stopped. On restarting, Motherwell appeared shell-shocked and lost 5-3. After that the wheels came off for Hynd. I wonder what would have happened if the game had proceeded without the pitch invasion and Motherwell went on to humiliate Rangers that day. Worst of all time? Either Malpas or McLeish. Malpas gave us a horrendous season and then on the final game of the season Fir Park refused to let the team come out to the fans. McLeish destroyed a wonderful team and spent loads of money doing it. He then did exactly the same at Hibs and to the extent that anyone can fail, he managed it at Rangers too.
  17. Kampman was always up against it. Bloody foreigners eh! He had ideas, but it never really went for him. Malpas had no ideas and ability to manage players. McLeish was ok first season with someone else's team. As soon as he tried to be clever and start tinkering it all went to pot. McLean made mistakes, but he did give us the platform to stabilise and then grow.
  18. I don't disagree about the playoffs. In my opinion, any of our managers with a background in Scottish football would have gone into those games with the 'wee team' mentality. Baraclough seemed to have the 'we're a Premier League side, they're a Championship side' mentality. Even more impressive, he got that mentality temporarily into players that had shrunk against the Old Firm before...
  19. Maxwell Burley Martin mccart Hammell McFadden Russell O'Neil, Cooper St John, Arnott
  20. Hope their pitch has grass on it and has been watered.
  21. Agree with Cooper and Russell and O'Donnell.(Phil not Stephen) Think some of Ancel babes should be in team and definitely Ian St John up front with Coyne and Owen Coyle.
  22. Totally agree. Never understood the hype around him. He is no better than what we have. There is probably better value and ability outwith scotland.
  23. I am not sure that it was his coaching ability. He would probably have made a very good coach but he was not a football manager unfortunately . Some of the younger players like Steven Saunders improved dramatically in a short period of time under his guidance. His problem seemed to be managing the senior players and he did not fully recover from his fall out with Craigan. Unfortunately that was a pattern that repeated itself when he moved on to other clubs after us. At the time I thought Craigan was possibly at fault for that whole incident but history was to prove that Gannon was never shy about starting a fight with people in Senior positions.
  24. Gannon seemed to be great at scouting players, and definitely brought in some good performers. He just completely lose the plot when it came to coaching them.
