There every reason to suspect JBA has an eye for a player unlike Kettlewells scatter gun approach so we could see some decent transfer activity and with Jordan McGhee on the verge of selection we could end January with the strongest squad we've had in many a year.

The fact we are talking about outside chance of title shows the progress under JBA. Could all go pear shaped next 2 games but if we could come away with say 3 or 4 pts it would be great. No way are we winning league and imo 4th is our aim. However we have all that Miller money so no reason why we cant try and get a few gems in January or some clever loan deals especially players needing game time for world cup chances

If you'd told me this time last year that we'd soon be arguing about whether we had the strength in depth to be considered genuine title contenders I'd have laughed in your face. However this season ends up, that's progress!

There definitely is some ignorance in that but there is also some truth. We don’t have the depth that Hearts and the Old Firm have and as we saw at the weekend we struggle to create that spark when Maswanhise isn’t in the side. We also aren’t nearly strong enough up front to be considered as in the mix for the title race. Yes we play some good stuff but all too often aren’t able to make it counts at the crucial time. We have a No.9 who needs penalties or else a dozen chances in front of goal before he converts one. We are also far too lightweight and don’t have anyone in the side like a Gogic or a Devlin who can give us that toughness that we would need to seriously be considered as in contention. I do think that 4th place is a realistic target for us this season. Long way to go yet but there is cause for optimism. Ultimately though this season has all the hallmarks of “another good Motherwell team that won nothing, but could have done so much more”. Which isn’t (before the ‘faithers’ start foaming at the mouth) a bad thing.

This, plus I expected to concede 4 or 5 goals from misplaced passes when we're knocking it around across the edge of the penalty box.

Get a striker in & keep hold of the gaffer i see no reason we cant be in the fight for 2nd

100% agree. To be honest, at this stage in the 'project' i'd have expected us to suffer a few heavy defeats as the players bedded in. The fact that we've progressed so far in the time available, I think is nothing short or remarkable. I'm positive that the manager can see where the issues lie and how to address them much better tha anyone on here can. I can't really imagine him not having something in mind for the transfer window that will suit the way we play.

Punditry is an easy gig, probably picking up decent money too. I don't really listen to them, with one or two exceptions, just guys and gals stating what uou can see with your own 2 eyes. Doesn't make them bad people, e.g faddy, can't not like him , michael stewrt is quite entertaining too but Sutton thinks he's turned into an art form
-
It was the sneering way he said it that annoyed. The host persisted and mentioned us once or twice more. At no stage did Sutton demonstrate any deeper knowledge eg our depth and quality in midfield. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

In a normal season, I would agree with this, as experience tells us this is the way things usually pan out. This isnt a normal season though. Im not suggesting we are in the title race, but to dismiss it like Sutton has shows the kind of arrogance that has led Celtic to where they are this season (with the money they have in the bank they should be miles ahead of everyone). FWIW I dont think Hearts are going away. They have the technology and the resource to strengthen in January and seem to be more astute in spending their money right now than Rangers or Celtic. We will need to address the striking position and get some cover in for Longelo and Welsh to be in the equation. But we have showed over nearly half the season that, if we can keep everyone fit, we are a match for anyone in the league.

Typical ignorant Scottish football pundit.

I think a reasonable guess as to how the season might now finish would be 1. Celtic 2. Hearts 3. Rangers 4. Motherwell I have been really surprised by Hearts. I thought the wheels would have come off before now and it hasn't so they are genuine title contenders now. I do wonder how the table would look just now if we had held on at Tynecastle for the win. Much as I hate to say it, Chris Sutton is right. Over a full season you need the resources to stay competitive. JBA has played a blinder rotating the squad but Celtic, Rangers and Hearts will be able to strengthen in January in a way that Motherwell can't. 4th place would be a sensational result this season should it happen.
-
To be fair it’s given it’s a bit of a stretch to seriously consider us to win the league - Leicester would be the comparison and I’m sure they were leading at Xmas . finish in top 6 will be fabulous - top 4 would be amazing - anything more needs a level of magic for us and further disaster for others.
-
Chris Sutton is a full-pelt moron. Being a Celtic fan is basically membership of a delusional cult, so it’s no surprise he’s as thick as he sounds.
-
They have a game in hand
-
So to be fair rangers should also not be in a realistic title discussion.
-
To be fair, I think we are currently too far behind to be in a realistic title discussion. If we extend our unbeaten run for another 10 games, then we can talk.
-
He does know that pretty recently we just had 19 changes over a few games? Or maybe he doesn’t but I’m more than happy for the media to write us off and underestimate us. the league table doesn’t lie.

Did anyone hear 5live tonight? Chris Sutton was on discussing Hearts title race etc. then the host said let’s not forget Motherwell. Sutton’s response was “you’re having a laugh theyre playing well but have serious lack of depth in the squad”. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Not bothered whether Jens plays Hendry or Stama. We will get a similar shift out of either and its hard to call which if any are more likely to score. Maybe Stama edges it as he at least has the confidence of his penalties to boost his confidence. I agree re Said and RCC. Although Id play Cookie on the left in front of Longelo. I think he is more effective there and Said can play fine on the right side. Id keep Slattery as a straight Just replacement as we will no doubt rotate fairly early with the 2 games in 4 days coming up.
-
I think I’d start AP in this one or maybe even push Cook inside and play Said as well
-
Celtic should also have easily beat Utd. They missed a handful of sitters but regardless I hope they are mentally on a downer.
-
Want to see him and his team do well but then I also want him back ASAP so hope does well and they narrowly miss qualifying
