  1. Past hour
  2. Yes, the defence was largely ignored in the summer rebuild and that has come back to bite us in the a**e. I'm pretty sure Weeyin will agree. That said, some players were still under contract and you can't simply ship them out. For all our midfield prowess, we lack steel there and leadership is missing. Perhaps the unfortunate Jordan McGhee was signed to fulfill that role. We lack back up for Longelo and that baffles me. First choice right back and 2 new central defenders? Welsh is just on loan; Gordon doesn't seem to fit with our new possession based system and can be rash; and finally McGinn's best days are behind him. He's fine in a back 3 but struggles physically as part of a central pair. Goalkeeper is another issue. I'm struggling to find many positives from Saturday but yes, our performance will have shown JBA our weaknesses on the big stage and when under pressure. Whilst St Mirren certainly benefitted from some good luck, they managed to breach our defence with worrying ease. The question is what business we can realistically do come January. Its a notoriously difficult window. I suspect some players will need to be shipped out eg Halliday and Balmer, if possible, to clear some space.
  3. Don't think we should get carried away about Sat, for all it was a horrific performance, it was also the perfect storm for St Mirren. Aberdeen very hit and miss recently. Slattery has to start as his dynamism and movement gives us far more attacking threat. We need a bit more zip with the ball, on Sat we were in danger of passing around the back 4 for passing's sake. Need to get back to the brief of brave, progressive play.
  4. This game was billed as two complete opposite styles but it really boils down to they kept the ball out there own net more than we did.defensively were an absolute shambles to lose 4 goals in a semi final to st mirren isn't acceptable,we're just not aggressive enough at defending our own box or even in the wide areas.i think we got it wrong over the summer by keeping to many failed defenders on from last season and we're paying the price for it.i really like the manager and I'm 100% behind him but he really needs to start sorting the defence out of we want to keep improving,we really do defend like school boys far too often.the only good thing that might come from this game is that some of our current defenders and have now shown the manager that they aren't upto the job and we're already looking for replacements come January.
  5. Today
  6. Not a good football weekend, Austin FC beat 1-4 at home by LAFC in play off. Porteus was playing for LAFC alongside Som and Loris.
  7. Yesterday
  8. Dont see us beating Aberdeen 3 on the bounce with back to back wins up there. Would take a draw right now. That said, Thelin is under serious pressure right now so you never know. Be nice to see a reaction and a positive performance at least.
  9. After seeing highlights of Halliday sitting on a couch with Paul slane commentating and celebrating all things Rangers, I now realise why he’s not had many minutes this season. I get the Rangers fan stuff etc but he’s still our player and we’ve just had a horrific result yesterday….. read the room man!!!
  10. Not sure how this will go. Hope we get a reaction from the team to help us win this one. We’ve already had 2 shut outs against them so I don’t see that happening 3 games in a row. A draw would be decent as I think they have got better since we last played them but 3 points would make a tremendous difference Toni’s as we have a difficult set of games this month. Killie away then hibs and hearts at home. should be two good games at home, even more so if we can get some wins.
  11. You also forget even at our worst in the first half their keeper had to bring off a great save and Manwanhise fluffed an effort that should have been a goal. There is a lot of nonsense talked about St Mirren yesterday, plus they got the breaks. They basically just did their job effectively. They did nothing that we shouldn't have been able to deal with had our players turned up, there was no tactical masterclass. Virtually everyone of our player was posted missing or at best underperformed. Even as bad as we were we could have had them sweating but for a comedy of errors straight after we scored. On another day we'd take St Mirren, yesterday just wasn't our day. We forget it and move on.
  12. After travelling back home today and reflecting on yesterday's HUGE let down. Team selection was wrong. St Mirren had a plan, and played us brilliantly. They were quite happy for us to play with the ball in our half and not waste any energy chasing lost causes and they marshalled the midfield. At 2-0 down, nothing really changed. Lets remember, we lost 4-1 and they hit the post and the bar. Like the majority of the people on here, I would love to see JBA succeed, but sometimes you have to clear the ball, and sometimes you have to try a different approach. JBA was out thought by SR, and the team were out fought. We are all incredibly disappointed, and we need a win an our next game to change the mood.
  13. Happy with that. Need Welsh back, in the last 2 games he didn't start we have conceded 7 goals
  14. My team v Aberdeen would be Ward Sparrow Mcginn Welsh Longelo Fadinger Watt Just Slattery Maswanhise Hendry If SOD is fit him at RB instead of Sparrow.
  15. I doubt very much if JBA will get us a cup win or playing regularly in Europe. I suspect playing decent football , developing good players , increasing attendances and keeping the prospect of relegation at bay and decent cup runs will be as far as it goes and I'm happy with that. If JBA is successful in all of that he won't be with us long enough to take it further. It's the curse of the smaller clubs . If your successful that success is taken from you.
  16. I would be quite happy right now if it was a draw also
  17. Not sure why Welsh didn’t start yesterday. I’d say our center back pair should always be Welsh +1, probably McGinn at the moment. I’d stick with Fadinger and Watt. Perhaps JT sub and RCC starting? Or start JT to see which one we are getting and then decide from there. Slattery to start. O’Donnell and Johnny. One starts one subs on don’t care which order. Longelo starts since no real option but hope he’s a bit more aggressive down the line, like he was doing a few games ago. Give Hendry a go to start this game. I think he’s looking better each game. No reason we can’t do well in this game other than it’s not very often we beat Aberdeen 3 times in a row.
  18. Finally managed to bring myself to watch the highlights. We were well beaten on the day . Disappointing with such a good support behind us but of course definitely not a new thing My main hope for the next month or so is we pick up a few more league points
  19. We just need one new player.. Erling Haaland.
  20. 2 goals for Devante Cole for port Vale in the FA Cup today, that's the kind of striker we need right now.
  21. I’ll be happy with a draw. I can’t see us beating Aberdeen three games in a row over a period of a month. itd be nice to see a reaction from them all after that yesterday.
  22. A huge game for us to prove that yesterday was simply an unfortunate aberration. Jimmy Teleen will surely have been observing yesterday's proceedings with interest. We've beaten them twice already but we need to tweak the system somewhat to keep them guessing.
  23. But they are though. They can barely string a few passes together. Hit long and chase type football. As others say, it only gets you so far. Any mid table Norwegian or Danish team would pump them. This has been the whole revelation of the JBA regime so far - we (in Scotland) can play the continental way as well. The soil here is not cursed. Yes, there will be ups and downs (yesterday) along the way, but you can basically take a hoofball style team and make them actually play football. The big Q is - can we take it to the next level? Not only play tidy stuff, but make it consistently effective? I think we can get there by next season with this season as more of a development year (but could still clinch top 6). I'm probably getting ahead of myself now, but if JBA is able to really pull this off and get us either a cup win, playing well in Europe etc. it could really change things in Scottish football long term. Other teams will look at it and think - why can't we have that?
  24. Think as well we played 3 games in 7 days and we've not a lot of rotational options so I think some players were just shattered. Losing is fine it happens not happy about any loss but cam accept a loss but to go to a semi final and be hummed 4-1 is atrocious and our defence needs serious serious work still.
  25. You never know which JT is going to turn up but he is our top scorer. If we could get consistent performances from him that would be a big boost……. Till we Sold him.
  26. My take on it is the opposition adapting to us. Was more obvious against utd... sit off, let us have the ball in our half and make us break them down, as opposed to pressing higher up and leaving space to exploit. Going to need to find a way round it. Yesterday it did feel like there was opportunities but we didnt move quickly enough which was frustrating.
  27. As i said to dennyc I don't see a lot of criticism aimed at Ward and Stama for yesterday. For Stama especially i have probably been his biggest supporter on this forum, I think a 4 4 2 would suit him hence I suggest Hendry up top. Maswanhise is the one who for me flatters to deceive at times and ww need more from him but in all honesty about 7 or 8 of team were below par yesterday and picked the biggest stage to blow it
  28. A studs kick to the balls and they are debating whether its a red. The coverage of our game these days is pathetic, negative, safe and dated narrative from failed coaches and managers. No wonder Scottish teams fail to progress. Far to easy to complain about lack of resources, when players cant do the basics. Coaching and management needs to modernise and improve. Its says it all that fans want Scotland to qualify for a World Cup at all costs. If we do qualify we will be an embarrassment. You wonder is Kettlewell has one eye on the Scotland job given he plays the same way as Clark.
