He was a VERY important figure in our history. He kept us afloat for a number of years. I did hear he hadn’t been a well man so may he rest in peace. i still go to his butchers shop in wishaw. Was there on Xmas eve to get a whole load of stuff. It’s expensive but a quality butchers.

Totally agree with what you say. I think he helped establish Motherwell's reputation as a real family club with traditional values. In some ways it is these values that has set the club apart in the modern era when football clubs have become more distant from it's support. JC was a friend of my Grandfather's and on the few occasions that I met him, he always seemed like a very grounded, nice man who genuinely cared for the club and the community. Sad news. I would imagine the club will be not just looking at the playing benefit of keeping him, but the swell in seats being filled every game and the difference that makes to the coffers. I would be shocked if we didn't offer him a bumper contract and wouldn't shock me if it was the highest we've paid for a manager.
