Update for the week to 26 October. Citations are now at 38,718, up from 36,310 last week. Most of this week went into going deeper on clubs already on the site rather than adding new ones. Twenty clubs re-checked from top to bottom Every claim on twenty club pages has been tried against the British Newspaper Archive, the Scotsman and Times archives at the National Library of Scotland, the Scottish Football Museum's archive, the club histories and annuals, and the web: Airdrieonians, Alloa Athletic, Arbroath, Ayr United, Dumbarton, Dunfermline Athletic, Edinburgh City, Falkirk, Greenock Morton, Gretna, Hibernian, Livingston, Partick Thistle, Peterhead, Queen of the South, Queen's Park, Raith Rovers, Ross County, St Mirren and Stenhousemuir. Each page has new photographs of its grounds, old and new, and of the people it names. New on the site Scots Abroad has a new piece on James "Dun" Hay, from Woodside to Celtic, Newcastle United and Scotland, with thanks to Roy Hay for his help with it. Those Who Kept the Record, the page for the writers and archivists the site leans on, now includes Hugh Keevins and Michael Grant. The kits on every club page are now drawn as proper shirts, matching each club's real strips but without the sponsors. Club records now cover 52 clubs. Rangers' record wins now show both 13-0 Scottish Cup wins of 1877, over Possilpark and over Uddingston, thanks to Stewart Mathers, who sent the sources. The grounds map has 342 grounds, with Larkhall Thistle's Gasworks Park and Royal Albert's Tileworks Park among the new ones. Things the papers turned up Cowdenbeath's old Crawford's Park was North End Park. The ground at Foulford belonged to Mrs Agnes Crawford of the Crown Hotel across the road, and the club was playing there by 1884. Morton's page now shows both founding years, 1874 as the club gives it and 1876 as the SFA annuals have it. Albion Rovers were at Meadow Park from 1883, with thanks to the club historian Brian Nugent. Saltcoats Victoria's grounds from 1880 to 1936 are now set out, checked against the papers. Kilmarnock Women's old home at Strandhead Park in Stewarton is now the site of the Rose Reilly Sports Centre, named after one of the club's own. Crests and photographs 17 more clubs have given us their crests: Aberdeen City Ladies, Blantyre Victoria, Caledonian Braves, Carron Ladies, Cumnock Juniors, East Fife, East Kilbride, East Stirlingshire, Fraserburgh, Hill of Beath Hawthorn, Johnstone Burgh, Kilsyth Rangers, Lochee United, Lossiemouth, Nairn County, Saltcoats Victoria and Stewarton Annick Ladies. Ashfield sent club photographs from 1904-05 up to this year, and Johnstone Burgh sent theirs. Thanks to both clubs, and to everyone who has written in. As ever, if you spot something wrong on your club's page, the corrections page is there and I fix things in public. https://scottishfootballhistory.scot

Obviously “shite/pish” is subjective. The lack of intensity, movement, rotations and urgency isn’t. That’s the objective analysis behind my opinion. But I guess we see things differently.

What's the injury?

John Beaton the ref!

Again though Hibs & Falkirk were much better teams than they are this season ( Hibs have already acted on that ) we’d all prefer this manager to pull us out it ( contrary to what some think 😂 ) feels inevitable & hopefully we’re planning for January don’t think many people would look at us right now & say we’ll finish top 6 ( I know the leagues tight ) or have a good go at the Scottish cup
-
No, we didn't, and I take your point. The two Falkirk games, Dundee at Dens and Hibs at Fir Park were pretty poor performances, though, and there was a marked drop off from the middle third of the season, when we were flying in the league. There's a strong whiff of the morning after the night before around Fir Park just now (even the announcer sounds scunnered). Maybe this is the inevitable comedown, maybe Alfred and/or the new guys just don't have it. I'd prefer him to pull us out of this run, rather than having to look elsewhere again, but it surely has to happen in the next 3 games, if it's going to happen at all.
-
We never played st Mirren, Kilmarnock & Aberdeen in that run though & still felt like we were playing well during end of last season think the next 2 are fair to assess where he’s at, as mentioned performance was better yesterday but not convinced we ever looked like scoring no Norwegian football expert ( or some would say Scottish expert either ) but Rosenberg to me should be the Celtic / rangers or Norwegian football….yet he finished mid table last year maybe he needs time but Rosenberg would suggest he got gradually worse each season at a massively bigger club than us time will tell
-
Our stats yesterday were better than the last time Hearts visited in every respect, other than goals, obviously. If you measure the stats from our first 10 league games this season against those from our final 10 under Jens, they almost mirror each other. During both runs, we took 8 points from a possible 30 and lost 18 goals. We've scored 1 less goal this time around. There's clearly more too it than just the numbers, but maybe this was coming, and we chose not to see it.
-
If we were to take nothing from those 2 , then I think its safe to say it isn't working
-
Hopefully not sounding too much of a smart arse but surely " we are shite/ pish" is subjective....anyway I am hoping for at least 4 out of 6 points in next 2, masa on bench and sod out of squad.
-
Seeing highlights and also the injuries and alfred having no luck but granted the buck stops with him. I will take any victory on Wednesday, another defeat really worries me. SALUD
-
Any kind of win and any kind of goals, flukey or brilliant, needed in this one. If we kick on from there, fair enough.
-
What part of our passing out from the back, which we did effectively last season, is anything other than slow, ponderous, predictable pish this season? The tactic isn’t the problem. The coaching is. There’s zero intensity, zero rotations, zero urgency. It’s rinse and repeat, followed by a shite long ball that effectively surrenders possession. That’s my objective analysis. I have eyes. We’re shite.

I dont see us losing this one -
See the above post for someone looking at things objectively , not sugar coated and then theres yours...but you've got it off yoyr chest, every workplace has characters like yourself, gets awfy tedious, listening to negativity....keep yer pecker up lad.

He’s turned this team into a slow, ponderous, predictable pile of pish.

Normally expect this to be a soulless, turgid shitfest on a tattyfield pitch in cold, horrible weather. But given St Johnstone have improved their pitch and Simo likes his team to play a bit, it might be a free flowing game on a lovely pitch, but ultimately still freezing and soulless. If we perform to the levels of Sunday and cut out the silly mistakes we could win this one. But a point would at least be a start to some sort of recovery.

I thought Sparrow had a very good game defensively and kept McPake very quiet. Levitt was decent in the middle. Manny and Kanga lit up the second half with their partnership. Went for Said though. He just takes the pressure off of our defence and gets us up the pitch with those runs. He also managed to lay the ball offor draw fouls at the right times instead of losing it. He could do without the rolling around the ground nonsense though. Everyone knows he is steong as an Ox. It just looks silly.

Some amount of hyperbole and confirmation bias being applied here. Too many people behaving reactively and judging results rather than performances (I get that results matter and will get managers the sack). But, yesterday was a million miles away from the Aberdeen and Celtic games, where I was genuinely worried that things were unravelling at a rate of knots that might be difficult to stop. Im not saying things are perfect. Im not saying that things cant improve more (they will need to). But I did see enough yesterday to think that there were signs of improvement. I still think we need to be braver on the ball, but yesterday really wasnt the day to be doing that given our previous frailties. If there is unrest in the dressing room, I didnt see many signs of it yesterday. The players all worked hard for each other and put a shift in, even Maswanhise, who has been absolutely toothless going forward worked back to cover Sparrow. Yesterday was absolutely down to individual mistakes. Neither Longelo nor McGhee make any attempt to stop Braga getting a free header for the first, and SOD gives the ball straight to Miller for the second. Neither of those things happen and Hearts dont score. Alfred cant do anything about those incidents. Similarly with Thors chances second half. Considering we were without Fadinger & Lowry yesterday and Koutroumbis and Priestman have disappeared again, I thought yesterdays performance (outwith the errors) was decent enough so I will give the manager some credit there. He now needs to show that level of performance can be applied consistently and the errors eliminated so that the results will follow. If he does that, he will survive this. If he cant, then he will be gone before Xmas.
-
Agree with you, hearts scored from 2 situations that we wouldn't have , thats what money gets you. With Lowry and Priestman coming back soon, hopefully, things ain't terminal, theres enough good players to give us a chance, most of them seem to be in middle of the park , though I like big seb, with service he will get goals . I'd love big Thor to do well but that was bloody frustrating to do that twice.

I was pretty encouraged by our performance yesterday. We seemed much better organised at the back, kept the ball better, pressed better, created better chances and the work rate certainly didnt look like the performance of a team that had downed tools on the manager. Was it perfect? No, far from it. But Ive been looking for small improvements, and yesterday, I thought there were many. On the balance of play, I thought we deserved something from the game. We created better & more chances than Hearts and had we taken some of them, I dont think they could have complained too much if we had won the game. Problem is we didnt. Eythor misses 2 guilt edged chances. I get he is rusty, but to not even make clean contact with the ball on 2 occasions is pretty poor. Not sure what the reasoning was for changing Seb out. He didnt look out of running to me and looks far more likely in front of goal. He was unlucky in the first half with his volley. Similarly, the much maligned Sparrow had a very good game against McPake, who was supposed to pull his pants down, but didnt. He looked like he was still full of running and I wouldnt have subbed him out either. SOD then makes the mistake for the 3rd game in a row, making that substitution also look silly. You could argue those 2 changes were on the manager and cost us any chance of getting back in the game, but looking at the bench its hard to see what else he could have done at that point to freshen things up. He did bring on Kanga, and that partnership with Manny looked very promising. Id like to see more of that. Overall, really dispiriting to goes 6 losses on the bounce. We are definitely in trouble re our league position, but it looks far from terminal at this point. We do desperately need to get a result from somewhere though, before we end up bottom and detached from the rest. Teams rarely recover from those situations.
-
Just out of curiosity, could you quantify that? I’d wager club accounts won’t show anywhere near that figure.
-
I thought there was signs of improvement today. We looked far better when Kanga came on. My concern is that Alfred seems to be unable to change formation or tactic so managers can work us out easily. Not really sure what the answer is to be honest, feel that I don’t want us to go down the manger merry go round again. He needs to get the balance of the squad right. Something he seems unable to do. Also I feel we need to drop Tawanda and play Lowery in his position.

I wonder if we will all have the same amount of patience when we are playing Hamilton away after our first ever relegation from the SPL.
