Yep, and it looks like they've offered him a new deal this time too 😄 And, for the uninitiated https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/events/john-terry-celebration/photos

Remember this , great 2-0 game against Hearts and also remember losing to Airdrie in the cup , did Lasley score an OG that night ?

Dundee fans not impressed as he has history in applying for jobs in Scotland when his contract is nearing end at Linfield and uses it as leverage for a new and improved contract and transfer budget. Did it with St Johnstone apparently.

McCall was very good and I liked him a lot. But he had a lot more resource at his disposal than most Motherwell managers. Albeit, some have had similar resource and wasted it. We did have some very good times under his watch though.

Mio and John fullobeens - shame it only lasted 3 games but loved them both.:)

In the last 30 years or so since Tommy McLean left we have had some good managers , and not so good ones Butcher was one of my favourites simply because we were at rock bottom when he took that job. Remember our game at Killie when we won 4-1 and we didn't even know if we would have a team to support . Fast forward 2-3 years and we were again a force Mark McGhee , his first season was excellent, and some of the football was a joy to watch . He handled Phil's passing the best he could have done. It was a mistake bringing the guy back in 2015 though in my opinion Craig Brown gets definite pass marks for me and despite being disappointed at the way he left , I have long gotten over it. Brown and Knox (or Jack and Victor ) as they were known at the time did great that year Robbo is another for me , always be greatful for the 2017-2018 season , and the 2 cup finals . Just a pity we played Celtic both times , otherwise I believe that could have been our time Stuart McCall was consistent with us and we had a great few seasons , but there was that disappointment we should have done better in one off cup games

Aye , cheers for the reply that's about a summary of my thoughts too . But really you are on a hiding to nothing being the Well manager as its inevitable with financial constraints, support numbers and location as close to Glasgow, that eventually they run out of ideas , having to sell the best players doesn't help and results drop off .Then they leave . Terry Butcher installed great team spirit then went off to the sun . Tommy McLean was astute but not very personable. Craig Brown was a very good manager also proving experience really does count. I liked him , he left for a better job , the way he did it was poor tho. Not too many Well managers do leave to a better job. They just sort of fade away and have to leave. I would think it will be about a three to four year life span for a manager that does relatively well .

Not really but hey ho it got you a laugh. And as weeyin says if Miller is as highly rated as we are led to believe why would a top club not be interested in him as a future prospect.

I rated Stuart McCall up to a point as he oversaw an incredible league performance with us. Unfortunately his cup records seriously sullied that and some of the cup defeats/exits during his time were absolutely dreadful. I also thought Mark McGhee did an excellent job in his first season of his first spell but ruined any good will with his appalling attitude towards the club during his second season and he did little to change that during his second stint. Butcher took us through a very difficult period and gave us some great times but probably stayed on a year too long and the same could be said for Robinson. Craig Brown was excellent for us imo. The only managers whom I have genuinely thought were dreadful for us were Harri Kampman, Maurice Malpas, the aforementioned Ian Baraclough (playoff aside) and McGhee second time around. Hope that answers your question.
-
Eh? He was 10yrs old then
-
Hook , line , and sinker .

Are there any Motherwell managers in the past 40 years you actually rate . Serious question by the way.
-
Good point re big team and small league. Irrespective of league in the modern game lasting 10 years at any club is the exception. It suggests there's some qualities that are good to have. FWIW I agree about the fresh approach and generally speaking the club have been decent at this. I do think we need is a level of continuity and sustained period of management, hence someone akin to Healy would be solid.
-
Of course. And every few years, the big clubs are edging closer towards the European Breakaway League they desperately want as new structures of the competitions are adopted.
-
It was a joke, but based on the fact that PSG have not only invested in some of the best teenagers in Europe. but had no problem playing them in the Champions League final. If it's true that statistically Miller is in that top echelon of his age group across Europe, then teams like that should be interested.
-
Agree with that. We need the same kind of forward thinking that got us excited when we saw the style Wimmer was looking to develop.
-
Baraclough wasn't great but he did a lot better than McCall that season. I am a huge fan of McCall and what he achieved with us, but he was also the man who almost got us relegated. (And kudos to him for stepping away when he realised it had stopped working). McCall left us in a precarious state by only managing 3 wins and a total of 10 points the first half of that season. Baraclough got 7 points in his first 3 games and 26 in the second half of the season. As always, though, people often forget about the players and there's no doubt they should also share a huge part of the blame for putting us in that situation.
-
Is that based on anything other than pure speculation, that would be a great move for him.
-
Linfield are the big team in a bang average league so they are going to win more than most, so healys stats will look good, a bit like Rodgers at Celtic. For me he cant be thought of as that good a manager as he's been there for a long time , he must have applied for a few jobs but never got any. If he goes to Dundee that will be a big step up, so time will tell how that pans out. I hope we use the same approach that identified Wimmer and bring in someone fresh to the Scottish game.
-
Baraclough was a poor, poor manager, let’s not pretend otherwise. Yes he came up trumps in the playoff and he’ll always get a big pass for that but tactically he was hopeless and struggled to manage games. We saw that before and after those two games. However the playoffs were one off games and he approached them in the best way, he didn’t allow us to be intimidated by Rangers simply because they were called Rangers like so many others did, none more so than Stuart McCall. Him being Rangers manager for those playoffs was a big part in us winning too as we all knew from experience that he was utterly hopeless and gutless when it came to knockout/big games.

David Healy has a very good track record in Ireland but if hes interested in the Dundee job then his judgement has to be questioned. Its a complete basket case of a club and has been for a good few years. Meanwhile, we're quietly going about our business.
-
Personal view is he's a very good manager, think he's been there for about a decade. I'd love us to appoint someone who can help us over a long period of time. Fair play to Dundee if they can land someone of his calibre.
-
Linfield have given Dundee permission to speak to David Healy about becoming their manager.
-
In all seriousness though, how did our team finish 11th that season? When you look at all the good talent we had...Marvin Johnson, Ainsworth was decent, young Lee Erwin coming through, experienced players like McManus, Pearson, Hammell Keith Lasley and John Sutton. Maybe I'm viewing the past in an overly-positive light, but that team could have been top 5 in the season just passed. Has Scottish Football gone so far down hill?

Unfortunately the horse has bolted, and its never coming back..... 😪😪😪
