  1. Past hour
  2. Correct and certainly a European game or two would not be a huge influence on decisions anyone on our books has to make if a big offer and big club comes in.
  3. Will 2 at home and 3 away not give us 19 home and away over the season? We have (will have) played: Rangers, Falkirk, Hibs, Kilmarnock, Aberdeen & Dundee Utd at home times two, (12 games) and, Dundee, Celtic, Hearts, Livingstone & St. Mirren once (5 games) = 17 home, 16 away.
  4. I think their is some truth in those comments but generally it will come down to whether they are earning enough in the first place to make any potential increase less critical or life changing. I doubt the wages on offer at Motherwell to players and staff provide the financial security that would enable anyone to refuse a huge uplift. Hastie is the classic example. I wonder where he would be financially if he had stayed put? Maybe still at Airdrie having been released by us and needing a second job to make ends meet. As mentioned above, he made the right, safer choice. Like every one on here I hope Askou and our top players and coaches are here next season. But I am realistic enough to understand they will look to move on if/when the right offer comes along. It would only take one poor season for their value....and those job offers... to return to previous levels. Let's enjoy what we have when we have it and pray that any replacements continue the amazing progress that has been seen this season.
  5. The vast majority are cos very few of us have the luxury of finance not being the major factor in our decisions.
  6. Oh there nowt better than loving your job but very few of us would let that stop us increasing our take home 20 fold. I'm sure Stuart McCall enjoyed his time with us more but the contract Rangers have him will have soothed his concerns. Slight difference for guys who are already very wealthy, they have the luxury of being picky. Anyone on our books is not extremely wealthy therefore are extremely unlikely to stay for the love of it or a European game.
  7. Very true. Not everyone is driven solely by money.
  8. Maybe. Maybe Jake Hastie got over it with his big wage bump for his Rangers contract. Maybe Reece McAlear got over it with his big wage bump for his Norwich contract. Maybe Stuart McKinstry got over it with his big wage bump for his Leed Utd contract You think Stuart McCall enjoyed managing Rangers as much as he enjoyed managing us? If someone is in it for the money, more power to them. I think, however, there is something to be said for enjoying your job, even (or especially) when that job is playing a game.
  9. Today
  10. Hope this doesn't come back to bite Slattery (and us) on the arse. I wouldn't put anything past them, even at this stage.
  11. Just one more reason to dislike the split.
  12. It's a slog I'm sure JT and his family would get over very quickly if he's getting 20 grand a week on a 3 year contract. Nobody says players and managers wouldnt enjoy European football but if you are offered life changing sums of money European football wouldn't matter a fuck for 99% of guys who have a chance to secure their family's lives. Think about your own job if you are offered 10 times your Annual salary are you gonna say no cos you like the team you work with. It's their job and of most are sensible enough they see that. Look at Tony Watt, the number of Motherwell fans who said he should have stayed with us as he could possibly got a Scotland call up. Bet he's glad he ignored that chance and signed a three year contract worth £750,000. Same with Jake Hastie we heard all the stuff about he should have stayed with us where he was guarenteed first team football and develop. He took the £750,000 contract from Rangers and should be made for life despite his career going nowhere. He made the right choice.
  13. They decide the fixtures and then cook up the reasons to justify them
  14. That all depends how it works out after the schedule has been manipulated to ensure the ugly sisters get a 19/19 split as usual, unfair is not a concept the SPFL recognise
  15. You're not wrong. Unfortunately, the first phase fixtures are based on guessing who will be in the top 6, and there is no way they predicted ourselves and Falkirk would be there. Add to that the finagling they will need to do to try and prevent cries of bias amongst the title challengers, and we could easil end up with 18 again.
  16. See their little angel won his appeal. Trusty did not win his and is now banned when we play Celtic.
  17. We only got 18 home games last season, ie 2 home games after split. We should be getting 19 homes games this season, i.e. 3 games after split. Would be totally unfair to penalise us two seasons in a row.
  18. When JBA goes, we will be in an extremely healthy position on and off the park...and will also be an attractive proposition to a different level of manager than we are used to
  19. I’m assuming post split is home: Celtic and Hearts away: rangers hibs falkirk Ideal outcome, last game of the season versus Hearts at Fir park. Winner takes the title
  20. You're more optimistic than me. I think we need 6 wins.
  21. It is getting exciting and sll we vsn do is look after ourselves. Our run in before split is tricky. We will see where we are once post split fixtures start HOME. Dundee Utd AWAY. Dundee AWAY. Celtic HOME. Hibs HOME. Falkirk AWAY. Hearts I think realistically we need 4 wins and 2 draws to mount any serious challenge COYW
  22. The only way the Scottish media can generate clicks (or shift newspapers for the old school readers) is to mention the OF every day with a new story. Anyone who has any success is immediately linked to one of the Uglies. The only quotes you will see, if any, is some ex-player saying it's a good idea, and they will frame a headline as "JBA to Celtic" The entire Scottish media had Lennon Miller heading to Glasgow every day for the second half of last season. EDIT: Also, ditch Facebook. You'll thank me later.
  23. Pleased for the Ox. Decent keeper. Just unfortunate that he doesnt appear to be a good fit for our new system. Also gets some of his wage off the books and gives him a shop window for a permanent move.
  24. If JBA wants the Celtic job or any other big move, he knows the best way to get it would be to win the league, or take us as close to the top as possible. He looks and sounds pretty single minded to me, and the players have that cut about them too. They've been like a machine the past few weeks, while others have faltered.
  25. Cant stand him but yip hope he does us a turn and gets a few sent off! 🤣
  26. Based on my Facebook feed looks like the media(?) ramping up JBA for Celtic next season. Living here, in the land of conspiracy theories, I’m immediately thinking this is a ploy to unsettle our players for the run in to the league championship. 😡
  27. I was talking more about a team where everything just gels, players loving playing, fans are loving watching and everybody is having a blast. It's a rare situation, and one they should savour. Of course they will want to get more money and status etc. but enjoying games and winning can be quite enjoyable too. Can you imagine what a slog it it would have been for JT if Blackburn had quadrupled his wages and he went to play in a team struggling for points? Don't underestimate European football though. Just because a few fans are jaded and would rather play Clyde at NDP at the start of the season, I guarantee plenty of players would enjoy it - and fancy their chances of making it to the group stages. Much like SOD, who despite having international caps, and played in the Euros, would still love to play for us at Hampden in the cup.
