  1. Yesterday
  2. I'd actually have given that accolade to Vic Davidson. Superb footbal player with control, vision, skill. A great passer and a goalscorer as well. Imagine having a team now with the qualities of Pettigrew, Graham, Marinello and Davidson all in the same side !!!
  3. My first game was in 1966 when my cousin kidnapped me and took me to Fir Park for a game against St Johnstone. Was hooked from that day onwards. Seen lots of fantastic players....and some not so fantastic... in my time but it's strange how it's often players that few mention that stick in the memory. Brian Heron as an example. Some shot on him and I recall a game against Killie where I swear the goal posts were actually rocking after his shot smashed against the bar. At least it seemed that way to an awe struck teenager. I do regret that I never saw some of the older players such as Stevenson, Ferrier, McFadyen and a good few others that moved on to greater success elsewhere. Players like Hughie Ferguson whose life story is so tragic despite his footballing achievements. Everyone part of Motherwell folklore and legends, if not the GOAT.
  4. Andy Ritchie probably had the most pure footballing talent I have seen. Which just goes to show that you need more than that to be the greatest.
  5. Absolutely. To me it's a mixture of talent, achievement and service to the club.
  6. Even at 48 I'd have been very interested in this but being outside the U.K. I need a wee bit more warning. Hopefully they'll do it again next year.
  7. Davie Cooper is the most talented player Ive seen in my lifetime at Fir Park, but he is a long way from being GOAT for the reasons Denny C has given above. My first Motherwell had Bobby Graham and Pettigrew, but they were very short lived. Tommy Coyne and Arnott were some double act and Faddy did some outrageous things in claret & amber. But the GOAT of my lifetime is obviously Joe Wark. One club man, record appearances until Hammy came along and a level of performance and consistency unrivalled by anyone. Of course that doesnt make him our GOAT. Just the best Ive seen. My old man used to rave about the Ancell Babes with Hunter, Quinn, St John, Reid and Weir. Bobby Ferrier, George Stevenston, Charlie Aitken and Andy Paton all have to be in the conversation. Up The 'Well! 🧡❤️🧡
  8. Also depends on what criteria you look at for GOAT. Is it most talented player, or most entertaining, or goals scored, or longest serving, or most games played, or most capped, or greatest captain, or most impactful, or being part of a trophy winning side, or home grown, or going on to achieve great things after moving on? Impossible task although fun remembering those you saw in the flesh and reading about those you didn't. Throws up a lot of great memories for us old folk.
  9. Well aye. Its more a 5-4-1 come 3-4-2-1 or some variation. But apart from that its a great post. Other formations are available, but positivity wins!
  10. If it is Auckland FC he's joining, they'll be competing in the Australian A-League as an expansion team.
  11. “I’m going to score a hatrick vs St Johnstone”
  12. Yep agree totally, depends on era. When I started going in 1977 as a 5 Yr old Wullie P was my idol
  13. As long as he's not a cocaine bear on the day we should be more than a match for him.
  14. I've done a lot of thinking over the past 24 hours and revised my preference a little. I agree with your take Minty. The danger is, if we don't compete financially, then we drop down the leagues and lose fans. Make no mistake, if we couldn't compete financially with the likes of St Mirren and St Johnstone today, then we wouldn't be able to compete financially with the likes of Dunfermline, Partick and Falkirk tomorrow. And so it would go on. Such teams will be looking to new investment opportunities sooner rather than later. Whatever else it does, the Society needs to become more commercially astute and aware. I don't subscribe to the "Bowling Club" mentality that some fans have of the Society, but there's a grain of truth in their concerns.
  15. For me it’s the first time I’m getting to our final league game of the season since 2017 so I’m looking forward to the novelty. I do hope however we get a nice win to send us home happy.
  16. Have some faith Dave, personally I think we will pump them St J are brutal, Levein has made them worse since he took over. They're heading for the playoff, but I would expect them to get past Raith rover ok.
  17. All depends what age you are, what player you pick, absolutely no point in comparing a modern player with someone from say the 50's or 60's as the game they played is vastly different from what we see today on so many levels.
  18. Yes, he's defo off joining a new team in the new Zealand league apparently. Nobody is 100% certain he ever really existed.
  19. Is Callan Elliot definitely away? Don't remember seeing it on the website.
  20. Shouldn’t be too long now to we here what’s happening and get some meat on the bones . Now I’ve had a bit of time to think about it providing we can come to agreements with both parties then a joint venture would my favoured option. The reason I’m saying this is in part due to how other clubs seem to be out manoeuvring us financially by varying degrees . The old adage was that money won’t buy you success but maybe not so true nowadays . As an older supporter of the mighty Well it probably wouldn’t bother me too much if relegated and playing in the championship as I would still enjoy going albeit it I’d prefer to stay in the top league . This brings me to the conclusion that financial clout would perhaps keep us up but without it …… who knows but possibly would put us down the pecking order financially and into lower league . So I’m hoping a mutual partnership would be my favoured option again on the proviso we do due diligence and don’t sell the club down the river . Interesting times ahead
  21. Think you need some older heads and players that have been at a club a while in any squad. Even if he’s not a regular starter he has loads of experience. Have we had any players like that in the last few years, how long has he been here for now . SOD will be a good guy to have around
  22. Probably one from Hughie Ferguson, George Stevenson and Bobby Ferrier.
  23. Also guys like Ian St John are in the mix.
