  1. I thought Tannaduce had been ruled out because it didn’t have the correct set-up for VAR; if that’s the case, I’d be surprised if Airdrie had the appropriate equipment. Does that mean closed door games don’t been VAR or have controversial decisions??

  2. I’ve watched the highlights on tv and McCann gets it spot on - it’s high up on the sleeve against Bair and more towards the elbow for Shinnie. There is a panel that reviews the VAR decisions at the end of each round of games and I’m sure there will be an acknowledgment of the errors in this game; but that’s pointless (just like us yesterday). If we end up in the play-offs by a point, will the SFA or the SPFL save us? No chance.

When VAR was brought in, it was for clear and obvious errors; the scrutiny required to see Bair’s handball (??) tells you that it was clear or obvious. Collum was standing facing the Shinnie one, with an uninterrupted view - that’s surely clear and obvious.

As many others have said, VAR isn’t ruining the game; it’s the poor humans who are operating it. We had poor officials before VAR and all we have done, is out the same poor officials in front of a tv screen.

  3. IIRC, Nevin spoke at the Glasgow launch of his book and he told a story of a controlling company rather than Boyle making decisions. Motherwell were part of the portfolio and if finance was affected in one part of the company, Motherwell suffered too. Nevin spoke about being called to meetings in town to discuss the finance and hoping to get things correct but the money taps being turned off by this company. As I said, I may have picked that up wrongly but that was my take at the time of the book launch.

  4. As has been said by others, the figures for this year suggests the defence is needing more work than the attack. Perhaps Kettlewell is considering three at the back, and using the new fullbacks as wingbacks in a 3-5-2; I get that leaves the question about who partners Bair - maybe Spitall or Paton fills that role, or Vale. He was prepared to go with Montgomery and Gent so perhaps he sees merit in having additional fullbacks/ wingbacks who can play that role. I don’t see Kettlewell making deliberately negative choices that would/ could ultimately result in his sacking; why would he do that?

I would take McCrorie from Rangers he seemed like a good keeper when he was given the chance and his contract is up in the summer

Heard him mentioned about being out of contract too; might have his sights set higher than us tbf

Not sure if online but if this one then it’s in the shop. My 17yo (and fussy about his clobber)  thought it was best he’d seen in a long time

That’s the very one - much appreciated thanks

Aye to clinch 2nd place in the league, what a goal that was a tap in from 6 inches, unsaveable 😀 Dave Cormacks greetin face was priceless, too bad we never had a champions league place on offer.

Did we not get a qualifying round for the Champions League the following season against Panathanikos or did you mean directly into the groups?

  8. Hopefully this stays in the ‘Former players thread’ and not the ‘ins and outs’ but I see the BBC Scotland gossip page is saying that Moult has unfinished business with us; mibbee he stills owes money for the physio bill or something. Louis don’t spoil our memories of how good you were by coming back a dud again.

Well missing out on ‘Europe’ is a blessing in disguise imo. I can’t speak for anyone else but I know I’m in no rush to see us play another European tie after our embarrassing efforts against Sligo last summer and our previous pathetic efforts against Stjarnan in 2014. Plus us sneaking into the top six and Europe last year actually hampered us going into this season because it papered over some massive cracks.

After the way this season and the last year and a half have gone for the club then if we manage to avoid relegation comfortably and then perhaps finish best of the rest in the bottom six then that is good going for us.

I totally agree about the Sligo embarrassment but we don’t have either Alexander or Hammell  at the helm, and we are a different team from where we were. Under Kettlewell, we’ve been transformed into a more competitive, well organised team, capable of winning games of football. I also accept that avoiding relegation was the first priority for Kettlewell and he definitely looks to have done that but we aren’t there yet. Far more to be optimistic than we dared believe a few short months ago. And we are certainly looking up and not down

  10. Following today’s result, and I know it’s always easy to look back at certain results and think what if…but if only we hadn’t lost to Kilmarnock or St Johnstone early on or drawn with Kilmarnock after being up, we could have been looking at a chase for Europe. Altho, we might not have seen SH sacked either

That's what I heard but Ross has pulled out

Kettlewell it is then - can’t see Holloway uprooting his family to come up here; McCann did ok at Peterborough but again I’m not sure he’d come up here. We used to have a habit of left field/ under the radar appointments. Hopefully we get the right appointment 🤞

    I hope not.

he’s had a couple of assistant mgr roles in 2nd tier German league , the longest lasting led to relegation .

a short stint at Cowdenbeath .

Suspect he’d be further down the pecking order than say Valakari - who would also be a punt - (unless he comes over with a mini bus full of very decent finish stars who we can test out in a bounce  game )

Apparently Kenny Miller mentioned his name to Tam Cowan the other week when asked about possible left-field candidates.

As someone said earlier, it could be an unknown who we go for, we do have previous for that.

  13. The inevitable has happened, altho never great to see our club in this situation. Serious question about where we go next - Clarkson and Hammell for the weekend and caretaker duties? Would there be mileage in a Craigan/ Faddy partnership or is that too much of a risk?
