Played for Wellington Phoenix in the A league for a number of seasons. Was considered a decent player here, where the tempo of the game is slower than the SPL. steelboy 1,046 Report post Posted December 30, 2020 26 minutes ago, SteelmaninOZ said: Could do with him now It's actually depressing watching that compared to what we have seen this season. It's also worth remembering that Robinson hated Ainsworth and played Blyth, Shea Gordon and David Ferguson ahead of him until he was under real pressure then he let Lionel do this thing and save us. Robinson is a slippery wee guy and will need to pull off another great escape this Saturday.

Still flabbergasted that no team from down south felt he was worth more than a £3m punt. I got slagged on P&B for comparing him to Kai Havertz. Not in terms of ability but the fact that Chelsea paid £73m. A player that has been nowhere near their starting 11 v a player that is starring for Celtic. A £70m difference. Unreal really when you think about it.

His work rate and desire to track back and defend were always questionable but when you watch that back no one can deny his quality. We have no one in our current squad with that level of technical ability. Id have him back in a heartbeat.

All the technical ability yet could start a game and you forgot he was there he was so ineffective. A fantastic show pony at times.

Thats what he was paid to do. But he got rid of Lionel and we have had a procession of wingers come throught the club who couldnt lace his boots and werent any better in terms of consistency or defensive capabilities. Ya Bezzer! 1,539 Report post Posted January 2 Lionel had a great first season for us but it was down hill from there and by the end he was a pale shadow of himself. In terms of ability he could have played at the very top level but he obviously lacked the mental side of the game.

Yassin 675 Report post Posted January 2 I think people are weirdly harsh on Ainsworth even if the sentiments are generally positive. He had one electric season and 3 where he sort of regressed to the mean as a mid table Scottish Premiership winger but was still capable of winning games singlehandedly.
