  1. What, you mean he's not going to Celtic? Imagine that, ya bunch of presumptuous prematurely perma-raging tits. Season ticket back on again then aye?

  2. I have to assume that there is enough interest from other clubs to prompt him to hold out for better offers. I agree that we should have just released the statement to say we accepted the bid then left it at that. Fans are going to moan either way, that’s what we do, and they should have waited until things were signed and sealed before trying to justify it. in relation to that, I have found the comments from Burrows, Wilson, and our friendly journalists about how great a deal this is and how lucky we are, and why we should be grateful, to be really cringeworthy. I don’t think anyone has a huge issue about us selling our players, in this case the issue is who it was to, the timing, and the manner in which it was communicated that pissed some folk off.

  3. If he rejects them and moves down south for the same fee, then hero status is confirmed. Build a statue.

  4. Wilson was Royal Bank of Scotland's Deputy Chief Economist in 2007. Definitely a man who knows about the long term health of a business. They only needed a £45.5 billion bail out!

  6. Timeline:- David having medical at Celtic David passed medical David not in the country Tweet come from Celtic (sounds more like Donald Trump) " a fantastic offer ... a magnificent offer" !!! what does that mean? - The standard of journalism in the country is the pits, if only we could have an exclusive from Jimmy "I want bums on seats" Sanderson which had some truth to it as opposed the the fantasy guff that is spouted in the Scottish Press

  7. David Turnbull clearly has confidence in his own ability, maybe Burrow's and the rest of the board should take note.

  9. Anyone at Fir Park who pulled that shit on one of our young players should be nowhere near the club.

  10. I don't recall Bury fans wrecking our stadium, Bury players cheating us o multiple occasions or any Bury manager attacking our players in the press. It's not really the same is it.

  11. Yes, exactly. What a lovely guy David Turnbull is. David, if on this forum, just do what you believe is best for you and your family.

  12. Next season instead of squad numbers let's give the players price tags on their backs. Really show the World that Motherwell's only purpose is to provide footballers with a platform from which they can be sold on to "better" things than Motherwell and wherever they came from previously. Let's try and get E-bay to sponsor us to complete the message that our overarching ambition is to be a selling club.

  13. If we manage to sell wee Davie to someone else at the asking price that isn't Sellick I think we should spunk £1m to a statue of him.

  14. Why does it always have to be someone getting grief? It has fuck all with anyone "taking note" and everything to do with the club accepting an offer they deem to be fair (and it's an offer most fans saw as fair before they knew it was Celtic paying it) and the option then being put to the player. He can then choose to either move, or not. It's no one's fault, and no one has to "take note" of fuck all.

  16. That is the concern I have. Could we really turn down a bid of £3m from anybody? No, even from Celtic. But in David’s case a sell on clause could well net us the same amount again in a few year’s time. And selling on at a vast profit is the way Celtic operate. VVD, Armstrong and soon to be Ntcham and Mcgregor as examples. And they rake it in as well through their own sell on clauses... again VVD and soon to be Dembele as examples. But Celtic also have a policy of refusing sell-on clauses when they buy from the Scottish market. Given that both Alan Burrows and Andrew Wilson ( who chipped in with his reasons why it was a great deal) actively respond to questions via Twitterland I contacted both with the question “ Is there a sell on clause? Never mind %, just a straight yes or no”. Despite them answering other questions before and after mine, I have had no response. The silence is deafening and I fear Celtic may well have stuck to their Policy. But I just don’t know for sure. In the past any transfer , particularly unpopular ones, has been accompanied by a Club Statement along the lines of “ We have ensured the Club is protected in the event of ??? being sold on”. Maybe I have missed it, but in all the Club comments regarding this potential sale I have seen no such reassurance. Even though Terms have been fully agreed. I believe it is a legitimate question to pose. To clarify, I think the Club acted correctly in accepting a negotiated fee of £3m, but it does hurt that he will likely be heading to Celtic. He has been a delight to watch and I wish him well in his future career, which will undoubtedly include Scotland and an EPL Club. I just hope we are not selling ourselves short when he moves on from Celtic. If a decent sell on clause is included, then I think a good deal turns into a great deal.

  18. Need to look st the big picture I would be quite excited to get any of the 2 or 3 players mentioned in on loan.A year’s loan is just the same as some of the contracts we are handing out .....They are all highly rated especially Morgan, when he was at St Mirren. If he can add same amount of goals as DT , am sure you will see it differently.

  19. Having allowed the dust (and disappointment) to settle, here are a few thoughts on the sale of David. Rather than the fee or going to Celtic, I am more disappointed in that we will no longer see in Claret & Amber the finest player to come through the ranks in the last 50 years and had hoped that we would have kept him until the New Year. The club strategy of being a showcase for players to develop from which we can generate transfer income means that they a difficult balance to strike between maximising the transfer fee and being fair to the player. Blocking a lucrative move for the player would have made us less attractive to both young players and finds from the scouting system. That said in my 50+ years of going to Fir Park we consistently been woeful in selling players. I can only recall 3 occasions when I believe we held out for the true value of the player. · Keith McRae going to Man.City · Phil O’Donnell to Celtic for cash upfront (although the timing just before the match against Dortmund was crap · James McFadden to Everton The transfer will clear debts and allow investment. The loss of David will only be acceptable if funds are used, not on transfer fees, but as signing on fees to secure the likes of Campbell, Dunn, Maguire, Semple, Livingston etc. onto longer contracts. Otherwise we face losing certainly the last four next summer. We need proper forward planning to avoid having to rebuild every summer and scramble for players in the Winter window. Finally we should all reflect on what a fine contribution David made to the club as an outstanding player and person.

  20. If any player, from any club benefits Motherwell it’s all good. Could not care less if it benefits Celtic down the line, that’s going to happen regardless of who the player joins and Celtic will always be miles ahead of us anyway, different level of club. You don’t see premiership clubs down south saying we won’t take that Man Utd player because it might benefit them in two years time. We should be thinking about what’s best for Motherwell not Celtic. If we go down the line of blooding our own youngsters instead no problem, (if they are ready) but let’s not just cut off our nose to spite our face because it’s a certain club. If a player from any club makes us stronger, provides better entertainment, and we gain financially by finishing higher we win. We refuse on principle and the player joins St Johnstone or Killy instead, we lose out to a genuine rival. Or maybe we only except loan players from Accies, they won’t be as good but we’ve done the right thing on principle.

  21. Over the last couple of seasons the club's policy of bringing in " lower quality players" as some posters on here refer to them has paid off and put the club on the road to a secure financial footing, The money made by selling on Moult, Johnson, Kipre, Heneghan, Bowman etc has just about wiped out the club debt, and now theTurnbull deal will see the club finally rid of the problems inherited from the John Boyle era. So now for the 1st time instead of any spare cash the club has going to service it's debts SR might actually have a decent budget to bring in some better players long term .

  22. While I am not happy at the prospect of David playing for Celtic (having sadly watched the Old Firm scoop up Dixie Deans, Joe McBride, Peter McCloy, Tom Forsyth all the way to Brian McClair, Phil O’Donnell, even Jake Hastie) I think it may be a long term good option : he will be playing in a league he is already pre-eminent in, will surely gain Scotland caps, will score even more goals and provide more assists, will be seen across Europe (ie a bigger shop window) and will just as likely outgrow Celtic and move on for a fee the percentage of which coming to us will be another big financial boost. He has behaved impeccably and should not be grudged his promotion and also has earned a choice he has yet to make. If he goes elsewhere it will be for more. More to us. If he goes to Celtic I doubt it will be for long and then a bigger move. More to us. So you have every best wish from me, David, whatever way it goes. Thank you.

  23. It is like I have been in a deep sleep and awoken to fine out that we have by far and away the best youth development in the top flight. A long way to go to get the money Hibs and DDee United got for their crop of starlets but we are making a decent fist of it. Turnbull could end up earning us £4m + if he is sold on. Gutted he has gone but we cannot turn that kind of money down. But you have Premiership and Championship clubs fighting over players I have not heard of. £400k for McKinstry and now Reece McAlear interesting West Ham and Leicester if today’s news is to b believed. Kudos to our wee club. I got to assume Craigan deserves some credit for this. Long may it continue. As a fan owned club we rely on this type of revenue. Would love all these players to realise their potential with us, but equally pleased and proud of this news coverage over the past month or two.

  25. I actually meant negotiation wise. Of course Alan Burrows should not have been open about the plans for spending the cash. I do thinkhowever he only did that to try and justify the sale and appease fans like us.

  26. Put simply nobody has done anything wrong. Motherwell agreed whatever terms with Celtic. David said “No thanks I think I can do better”. He might still end up there if those terms are improved but the seethe at present is marvellous. Celtic always try it on so this might not be the end of it. The Club have their valuation and if somebody else meets that valuation then he can speak to them. If nobody meets that valuation, then he stays. David did his bit for us by signing a new contract, perhaps against his Agent’s wishes. Think Hastie. He owes us no more. No way should anybody at Motherwell, fan or Official, give him a hard time for now looking after his own best interests. I would be disgusted if anybody tried to force him out the door to a Club offering him terms he was not happy with. Even for £3m. I do think his Agent must have spoken to other Clubs and all this publicity regarding the Celtic offer can only help. In any case, when he eventually does go the overall package to Motherwell might be better long term even if the initial fee is under £3m. Not that I’m suggesting it but £2.5m plus a 20% sell on will bring in far more long than £3.25m that has been quoted for the Celtic offer. Now, who is taking donations for that statue.

  27. Even if he didn’t want to go there it makes sense that him and his agent would at least want to see what was on offer rather than just knock it back blindly

  28. It’s pretty much out of his hands once he agrees a fee with any team but I think he is in a very good position now. We either get a decent fee or we get to keep him playing for us. He chose to go down the path of take the money while it’s there which aligns with the views of a fair few people. I was in the other camp of take the risk and hold out for a while, either for better offer or continue to play for us, get better and net us a better deal down the road. Of course that’s a much riskier path but one I would have opted for and one which would seem we are now on. So for me there is no blame attached to Burrows for anything he made the call and I can’t say it’s the wrong call, just a different one than I would have liked. I really hope he does not go to Celtic but I think that, hopefully, every single Motherwell fan wishes him all the success In the world regardless of where he goes even if that is Celtic.

  30. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/transfers Going by this the 44 English Premier League and Championship teams have signed a grand total of 13 players between them so far this window. The lack of bids at the moment doesn't mean much.

  31. A disaster if we keep our best player! The idea that if a transfer isn't done by the middle of June we won't sell him is a bit daft. There has hardly been any transfer business done yet in England.

  37. If we didn't sell Turnubll this summer, we'd be just fine financially. (And it's not like we'd get no money for Turnbull in 12 months time). We just need to be careful we don't end up with a model that ships players out after a few games (or no games in some cases) rather than actually provide some benefit to the first team squad. This feels like we're tipping the balance too much to the cashing in side of our business plan. Of course we are a selling club - but the "grow your own" model is supposed to provide the core of our team too. If Cadden moves on in the summer, Campbell is the only regular starter left who came through the system. We might see Maguire, Scott, Semple, Cornelius etc. involved next season, but there needs to be a balance between on the field needs vs off the field finances.

  39. Nothing pleases you does it, Selling Turnbull will not see us relegated. Robinson realised how much of a fuck up the first six months of the season was and he fixed it and by the signings he has made so far realises playing with two wingers is the way forward so we will continue to play that way. You clearly have an issue with how Robinson sets his teams out but like it or loathe he has been successful with the players he has at his disposal. Turnbull was always going to leave, now it's time for semple, cornelius or reece mcAlear to step up and we go again.

  40. Entertainment is a very broad term. Were you not entertained getting to 2 cup finals? Also , there could be a few David Turnbulls coming through the youths for all we know .We all wish in a perfect world he could stay but the money could take us up a few levels.

  43. As much as I hate that he'll be going to Celtic I can't believe some of the responses on here. Well I suppose I can but it is still an amazing read. Celtic are the only team that bothered to match our asking price. Sure some others may match it before the deal is done but no one else has yet. Talk of not renewing season tickets and never goin back is fucking wild. How long have you been Motherwell fans? 9 months? You may say how sick of the OF taking Motherwell players over the years but you surely understand that these sort of transactions are vital. If he was moving to Barnsley for £3m+ I am pretty sure no one would give a fuck never mind the chat of not renewing/never going back.

  45. The thing that annoys me is why have we accepted the offer so soon into the transfer window? Even if there are no concrete offers on the table from England just now doesn't mean there won't be in the near future. Things move quickly and as players move and the deadline approaches, offers are often made out of the blue. As Burrows himself tweeted, yes it's a risk, but I think it is one most fans would have been willing to take. The worst that could happen is we see David Turnbull in a Motherwell shirt again.

  46. Not a single person has mentioned a release clause in the five months since he signed the deal but Burrows comes under a bit of criticism and it's suddenly a sycophant talking point.

  47. I have no issue selling him early. Give us more time to deal with replacing him. My issue is selling him to another Scottish team. I’d rather take less money and sell him outside of Scotland. I also think he would develop better down there.

  48. We all know Turnbull was going to be sold at some point. We all know he is destined for bigger things. We all knew the money was going to break records. However it is utterly galling to lose him to one of the arse cheeks. Especially after losing Hastie to the other arse cheek. Their superiority complex and constant lording over us is just going to get worse and watching him in the green and grey hoops will make me sick. Hopefully with the club releasing this statement it’s a rallying call to some English clubs to up their game and bid the right money. If they do he will go south with all of our best wishes.
