Not game related but well done to the guys that created the banner for Dougie Imrie, you are a credit to the club. He’s a guy we’ve not had much time for and who’s not had much time for us over the years but what happened goes way beyond silly football rivalry. Well done guys 👏12 points

We need a regular starting striker with proven league experience, for the league campaign not a project, I am sure we can do better.7 points

I'm curious about other peoples opinions on this. For the life of me I cannot understand fans of clubs that flirt with European qualification every 5 / 6 years or even longer wanting the regular qualifiers to do well in Europe to improve the co efficient. All an improved co efficient does is put multi millions of pounds into clubs already with a big financial advantage over us and put the OF straight into the league stages and for what ?the scraps of an extra conference place and periodic qualification. An improved co efficient for me hurts clubs like ours , OK we may get into Europe ourselves now and again but that in no way will compensate financially for the money the regular qualifiers get. Our only real hope of success is the domestic cups do we really want to make that harder by hoping another 3 or 4 clubs out with the OF are significantly financially strengthened, over and above the financial gap even as it is now. Had Hibs got through last night they'd have got a minimum of £5 million and potentially £8 million. Same goes for Aberdeen and Dundee Utd had they gone through. Even now 3 of them get another bite of the financial cherry. Am I alone in hoping they all get fucked out as early as possible. Frankly I don't give a monkeys what anyone abroad thinks if our game , they dont go, they don't pay and their opinion changes fuck all on my matchday experiences and never will. When I read social media I feel like I'm the only person whose starting position is fuck the co efficient 😂 . Am I the only one that thinks like this , am I warped 😂6 points

So you don't think we should try and make Fir Park intimidating for opposition teams? 😦6 points

Just home from pub and buzzing after that performance. I will break down my assessment 1) we have moaned about style for years, we have a new manager trying new style which isn’t good for health but give him time. Brave and 2nd half we were great. 2) Stama - i am still backing him , there is a player there in my opinion 3) goal conceded, mcginn howler but we move on. 4) fullbacks, both excellent and going to be huge players. 5) centre defence - we need at least 2 in. 6) midfield- the triplets were great , slattery set pieces though were brutal. 7) it's miles better than hoofball so let's enjoy the JB revolution COYW6 points

Compared to the fling-shite-at-the-wall chaos of Kettlewell’s transfer windows, this one feels like a real breath of fresh air.5 points

Interested to start a discussion on how our new Chairman's vision of the club going forward has been taken on board by the fan base . He certainly comes accross well in interviews and seems very honest and transparent with his answers to questions. Feel it's a much tighter ship now as not much gets leaked as seen with transfers incoming and out going . For me I'm on board . He like many of our support were not happy with many aspects re. the football side and in particular the style of play adopted by the managers appointed pre Wimmer . Hes gone about changing that completely by being bold with European type coaches who have different ways of looking at how the game is played and also different mindsets/mentality . Pre Wimmer it was doubtful I'd have renewed my ST as the football was an awful watch imo . I've been going to FP for 58 years and it would have been a wrench to stop but this fresh approach has been a breath of fresh air . How will we do this season ? . Position wise don't think it will be much different to any other season say 5th to 8th kinda thing but I'm 100% convinced it'll be a much better watch So to conclude I'm delighted the Chairman has taken this bold step and should be given enormous credit for his decisions so far in changing the direction of the club .5 points

AP has 6 goals in 25 games for us, and 20 in 40 for his last team. To say there's little evidence of his ability to score is lazy and incorrect. He had 2 injuries last season, on top of literally moving from the other side of the world, at the same time his baby was born. It's well known that it takes players from other countries an extended time to settle. Never mind when the club changes manager twice and overhaul the style. In addition, he works his arse off, leads the line well, is solid on the ball, puts himself about, and frequently gets himself into good positions. All attributes that tend to buy players time, but for some reason AP isn't getting the benefit of that from some. JBA said that it will take time for the forward players to gel, which makes sense. No one knows for sure how it will play out for him, but there's no evidence to suggest we should cut bait on him when signing a goalscorer is proven to be one of the hardest things for a club to do, and our market is the likes of Callum Hendry. We just came off of losing two managers in a season and having to reshape a bloated and unbalanced squad that looked dead on its feet at the start if fhe yead, and we've managed to make a good start of it, so I don't think now is the time to nitpick on individuals.5 points

Can I just say the football we are playing right now is an absolute joy to watch. We are totally dominating teams in terms of possession and are brave in all areas of the park. We need to be more clinical but that will come. All I can say is I was really struggling the last few years watching Motherwell - it was a real chore at times, but now it’s fantastic to see us play actual football and get the rewards for being brave.5 points

Yeah, ramblings of a bewildered OAP. I was waiting for some comments from him about how if we were an independent country that we’d lose all our pensions.5 points

Just a shame he feels the need to head to the dressing room as quickly as possible once the final whistle goes. Understandable given the abuse he gets from some arseholes in our support. Guy might be past his best and no longer a first choice, injuries having taken their toll. . Always gives his best...whether good or bad...and happy to settle for whatever role our Manager asks him to play. Yesterday showed he can contribute when given the chance.5 points

Wow, just wow! What a great advert for Scottish football. Motherwell were outstanding today. Yeah, there were a few nervy moments at the back. Who cares? If we are going to be served a feast of football like that at Fir Park this season, I'll sufer a few cock-ups at the back. The energy in that team today was exceptional. Some of the football was superb. The number of times that we caught Rangers in the press was quite astonishing. A little bit of added quality up top and some extra depth ro the squad and this could be some season. I wanted the team to make a statement with this performance and they exceeded my hopes. Well done JBA, the staff and all the players. That was a terrific watch.5 points

He is not injury prone, he has a shoulder condition that requires surgery, played his whole time in Belgium with it and no ill effects, incidentally Mechelen played everything through him so can see why we've got him. The operation is scheduled for May. Blackburn Rovers were keen to take him on loan too.4 points

Good luck to young Wilson, i understand the reasoning for going out on loan and I think he’ll do well at Raith. There’s a talent there and playing every week will develop him. I can honestly see him coming back a better player. I know a few of you have panned him but I’ve felt the last couple of times he came on he did ok. anyway, good luck Ewan4 points

I just don't get the hatred towards Kettlewell. He saved us from relegation in his first season in charge, there is almost no doubt about that. We got our first league win at Ibrox in many years. He got the best out of KVV, turned Theo Bair into a sellable asset and introduced Lennon Miller to the first team squad. It is generally agreed that he worked his socks off for the club to the point where it all got too much in the end. When the fans turned on him in the last few games ( as they did very vocally) he reacted in kind and made some ill judged decision. It happens with human beings under considerable pressure. Would any one of us want him back as manager of our club? No. Does he really deserve to be slaughtered for contributing to the continued SPFL status of our club, a status that allows JBA to now do his thing? I don't think he does. There were some comments over the last few weeks about Dougie Imrie being the pantomime villain and how tragedy shows how shallow those negative emotions actually are. Do we really need Kettlewell to be another pantomime villain so that we can enjoy the football and feel validated in our opinions?4 points

A year on from the big board room coup, I think a lot of things have become evident. 1. Getting "real control" of the club was paramount to everything that has happened in the last year! 2. We now have a young, innovative chairman in place and a much younger board with fresh modern ideas. We also have a CEO who is aligned to these principles. 3. Many fans talked about the need for investement, and that may still come. But the chairman talked about some "easy wins" whereby we could actually grow the club and make it more attractive to investors. 4. Getting in a young modern manager who wants to play attractive attacking football has already seen attendances rise. If that continues to improve, so will stadium revenue. 5. Signing policy is much more forward thinking. Younger, fitter players who are able to play an expansive game and tied down on contracts that give them a residual value. This should see us grow our transfer revenue as players move on to bigger and better things. This in itself will make us more attractive for future signings as they will see us as a good club to facilitate their development. 6. Improvements to communication and in other areas of the club and around the stadium give the impression of a club that knows its identity and is constantly looking to improve. This and the continuing emphasis on community work will make us more attractive to sponsors and in theory should also allow us to grow that revenue stream as well. There is still a lot of room for improvement, and some mistakes have been made along the way. But I dont think Ive been this excited and genuinely delighted to be a Motherwell fan in a very long time. Erik Barmack anyone?4 points

Why do folk on here get so animated about MJC's predictions. So what if he thinks we will get beat every game, its that's his opinion that's his opinion. Be a bloody dull world if we all thought alike.4 points

You've decided he is shite. As have one or two others. You may turn out to be right. But I would say based on the body of evidence to date, it is inconclusive. He spent most of last season injured. He is now on his 3rd manager in a year and a brand new style of play. If we get to December and he/we dont look any better in the goals for column then you might be proved right. Until then, how about we cut him some slack and give him a little support?4 points

Makes no difference to him. Play a ball in to his feet or in front of him and his next touch is a tackle. IMO He’s been poor irrespective of what we feed him and continues to be.4 points

I agree the bulk of the funds should be directed towards infrastructure and youth development. That’s our future. But I hope there can be a balance. A portion must be spent on an attempt to improve the quality on the pitch. That’s the bit the fans see each week and which has raised our spirits (most of us anyway 😂) of late. We have seen positive signs since JBA came in and with his signings we have evidence he can source players who will improve us and who will cope with his preferred way of playing. I honestly believe he will already have identified players to improve those areas we all know need addressing. And I suspect we will see evidence of that very soon. in recent seasons we have been mostly limited to free transfers, often taking a punt on players recovering from serious injury, and loan players. Ap Stam being the obvious exception of course and in truth the jury is still out as far as he is concerned. But that was a big spend on one player. A greater risk. I believe bringing in around four starters totalling £500k/600k in total could really provide the uplift in quality the squad needs to progress. That leaves over £3.5m for projects and the like. The Miller fee is a massive sum to a Club such as ours but it is a pittance to Udinese so hopefully the bulk, if not all, will be received up front. If we are honest we must also accept that none of our youngsters are currently ready to play a meaningful role in the first team. And taking into account the number of players that have departed from last season’s squad the monthly wage bill should not put pressure on our finances even if we strengthen. If we really trust and support our Manager then he should be given the support and encouragement to continue our progress. How often to we get this opportunity and have a Manager who we would trust to spend wisely? .4 points

Ain't it funny. Cries of get a cb in and when we apparently do, it's cries of not him! Perhaps our first choices failed to materialise. Is he better than Balmer? He probably is. He is still young enough to develop and I am sure will be fine. Only downside is if he become a fixture in the defence, that defence will need to change against Celtic.3 points

Your posts always come across as similar to a film critic reviewing a new release rather than a football fan who enjoys going to support their team. ”It was a fairly low budget production which delivered the standard of film you would expect, wasn’t brilliant but it certainly wasn’t terrible either. The way the audience reacted to it was a disgrace, but not surprising. Totally ungrateful and lacking basic understanding of the movie industry and the online reviews only reinforces this. It has to be said that so many cinema goers really are deplorable people with no common sense whatsoever. At the end of the day it was well written and credit goes to the producer…Graham Alexander.”3 points

Watch the 3rd goal back. AP runs back towards the halfway line and drags his centre half with him, whilst doing this he's pointing exactly where SOD's ball needs to go. I think AP should be doing better with the few chances he gets but it looks like he's doing exactly what Askou wants him to do for the benefit of the team right now. The goals will come.3 points

No arguments there and again we have shown some really promising stuff, the type of which was never evident under our previous three managers. You can see what JBA is doing and he is building a competitive team which we need to hope comes good, but as I said we need to make that count by turning draws into wins. It’s early days though still. To take a step back, looking at our opening fixtures…Rangers(H), St.Mirren and Heats(A) to come through that unbeaten is commendable. However as I said context is important with draws and I’m afraid 3-0 up with 20 to go and end up hanging on for a point isn’t good enough. Next week at home against Kilmarnock is crucial, we NEED to pick up all three points.3 points

People can make excuses for any player if they like as far as I'm concerned. He had a tough season last year for various reasons and I don't think it's in doubt that he puts a shift in. Hopefully the signing of Hendry will help too but there's a long way to go before the end of the season. He plays for Motherwell - I'll back him3 points

Well I don’t know too much about any of those instances but I have seen up front with my own eyes the behaviour of Celtic fans inside and outside of Fir Park and I have seen the damage they have caused to the ground, which is far worst than anything Rangers fans have done to Fir Park in recent times.3 points

I'm not sure where to put this comment - but those writing AP off with certainty I think are wrong. If we are to be patient with our new style, I think we can be patient enough to at least see AP over the first ten league games. Theo Bair was a running joke in his first x games for us. Plenty more I can add to that too. There's a player in there, and it could go either way. To add - I have more doubts about Said than AP in terms of future prominence - but again ten games and I can add more.3 points

I got to admit I'm in a minority of one I think. I didn't think at the game the SOD incident was a penalty and even if there was contact the way he over egged his fall to convince the ref would have got a 0.1 at the Diving Olympics. It looked too contrived and that put enough doubt in the Refs mind it wasn't, even if on another day another ref might have given it. It was balanced out for me when he didn't give St J a penalty with the very last touch of the ball, I've seen them given. So as some have said , he was shite for both teams. Didn't detract from another good game by SOD, and the fact the Saints fans at the end were giving him pelters shows he was doing something right, even if my nerves struggle with the new style. The way he was winding them up after the final whistle just topped off another good team effort. I moaned like fuck during the GA and SK years that it was mind numbing pish we were watching so I'll take the nerves with the decent football. Its been many years since I looked forward as much to going to see us cos its entertaining. Hope it keeps going.3 points

Depends the era is the thing. Our mid-seventies central defenders and central midfielders have had a few mentions. But none of them would last 10 minutes these days. On the other hand, imagine Keith MacRae as a modern keeper. Then you ask if Pettigrew and Coyne could combine. Or was e.g. Henrik Ojamma's purple patch of long enough duration to make him worthy of consideration. And, as a few folk have mentioned, we have had players whom we have to judge solely on their contribution to Motherwell. I tried to pick a team, but had 2 goalies, 3 left backs and 6 forwards.3 points

Not a team of the best players, but a team representing those players I loved watching. Randolph Nijholt Martin Forbes Wark McAllister O'Neil Cooper Pettigrew Higdon Coyne Honourable mention to Billy Campbell, Brian Heron, Dougie Arnott, Phil O'Donnell, Keith MacRae, Bobby Russell, Vic Davidson, Jackie McInally, Martin Corrigan and so many more. I guess I could easily pick three teams of players I have had the privilege of watching over the years. I'm now off to work on a team that includes 11 players I wish I had not had to suffer during those same years. Might even include a Manager. A recent one.3 points
