  1. It is. But equally if you're playing the "In The Know" game and are quite happy to take the credit when you get it right, you have to take it on the chin when you a look a bit of a daftie and get it wrong.

  2. We have pace all through the team and most importantly at the back. Lets use that to press high up the park and not let them play their usual game. Sitting back and giving their players lots of time on the ball is a recipe for disaster.

  4. So basically dependent on what the tv channels want to select as highlights determines what they get to review.

  5. So unless they review every single booking and dodgy challenge over the weekend, how do they become aware of incidents they need to look at unless it been Broadcast and highlighted on national TV, it's trial by TV and the shite spouted by the alleged pundits. The whole system is rotten to the core, the ref penalised the tackle, a yellow card , that should be the end of it, then the TV judges discuss it agree it should be looked at, and hey presto, the compliance officer then decided it's worth a 2 match ban, it's nonsense. Will there be a consistent approach over the season , of course there won't be, but should anyone be surprised it's the SFA, incompetence and self justification is mandatory.

  8. One of the great days as we see the culmination of one of the greatest misdirection in Scottish football with Turnbull coming off the bench in the 3rd minute to rapturous scenes, controlling the game, scoring 5 goals and the green hordes smashing up the south stand........

  9. On seeing tackle again looked like a red to me so no complaints about ban as long as every red card tackle gets upgraded this season . It’s all about consistency can’t wait to see what happens when it’s an old firm player as 100% certainty someone will get off with 1 this season but doubt they will get yellow upgraded esp if Scott Brown. Seems to be compliance officer concentrates on small teams and ignores the big teams which is why Scottish football is in such a state .

  10. Not everything you get told happens tbf. Respect your view and I’ll happily take the pellets when I do get it wrong.

  11. My thoughts too. You look for any small gains you can take from fixture scheduling and them having Champions League qualifiers either side of the game, having had to return from Eastern Europe having an away fixture with an early kick-off is arguably as good as you might hope for in that regard.

  12. Celtic had a poor (by their standards) end to last season and have not strengthened significantly over the summer. They have not been properly tested so far this season and I think the St Johnstone result says more about where SJ are at this moment in time than it does about Celtics form. Having said that it shows what Celtic can do if a team is off the pace. I'm not sure that the European game has any real impact, it certainly hasn't in the past. The players are very fit these days and don't tend to suffer Euro hangovers. Sadly, I think Celtic will be too strong but we can still make life difficult for them and you never know what can happen if we are still in it beyond the hour mark. I would like to see how Lennon's Celtic would react under a bit of pressure. I fear a narrow defeat but I don't think we will suffer the same fate as St Johnstone. Hard to see where the goals are going to come from so I am going for a hard fought 1-0 defeat. However as always I hold out that little bit of hope that we could be in for a surprise. I used to hate when our managers (McGhee and McCall were terrible for it) displayed such a defeatist attitude against the OF but I have wasted too much energy on blind optimism over the years to continue making that mistake.

  13. It's easy to jump in a month after the discussion and claim the high ground, but back then we were all speculating as to who was coming in, who was a trialist, and who the trialists were. It's a discussion forum. Speculation is the very foundation upon which sites like this are built.

  15. Swindon had a season in the Premier League when I worked in that region in the late 80s/early 90s, but went on the slide after that - or, returned to their regular form. That was shortly after their chairman was jailed for making illegal payments to players. (They also had a brief revival when Malpas was the manager). They are pretty much a middling League Two side these days.

  16. Those 3 in the Premiership. Quite a few more in the lower leagues. Not sure if this is a definitive list, but I came across this: Airdrieonians Alloa Athletic Annan Athletic Clyde East Fife Edinburgh City Falkirk Forfar Athletic Hamilton Accies Kilmarnock Livingston Montrose Queen of the South Stenhousemuir Advantage or not (and given the league positions of Accies and Livi last season even that is debatable), it's the fact that players hate playing on them and fans hate watching games on them that should lead to their demise. The smaller clubs that still have grass offer a better spectacle most weeks than the bigger clubs with plastic. I watched the Dunfermline game last Friday and it was miles better than anything I've ever seen on artificial pitches. It will take a collective action from the fans, the players or the TV companies for things to change - but unfortunately I don't think anything will happen soon.

  17. Reading some of the comments on here you would think we had been bullied all day long. Livingston were just not that physical...that's a myth based on history and the players they had last season, many of which have moved on. In fact, there is a strong case for saying that Gallagher was the most physical player on show, closely followed by Lithgow of Livingston. Also Carroll was responsible for the only violent tackle in the whole match. So, no, Livingston were not overly physical. They were just smarter. Aberdeen and Hearts will be much more of a physical challenge. What Livingston did do was play a style suited to that dreadful pitch. Rarely running with the ball, clearing their lines with no farting around in defence and getting the ball into our box as quickly as possible, often by way of set pieces, throw ins and goalkeeper clearances. Horrible to watch but depressingly effective. Any attractive football they did try to play only happened around our penalty area. On the other hand, we stuck to our usual attractive game plan....passing ,probing and driving forward with the ball... which was ineffective on that surface, with our wingers struggling to make an impact. We did not need to be more physical, we just needed to adapt our style to counter the conditions. There is no need to bring in more physical players, the existing ones just need to be a little more aware of what works and what doesn't on a game to game basis.

  21. Absolutely agree with that. I was thinking today that it should be classed in the same category as a restricted view ticket. Have a plastic pitch if you like, but you can't charge full price for a ticket as you're restricting the product fans are paying to watch.

  22. It would be good to see the club coming out against plastic pitches. Fans are being robbed.

  23. I've never really waded in on the whole plastic pitch thing before, but it's getting beyond a joke. Not even blaming it for us not being great today, it just makes games shite to watch overall.
