  1. Been like that for a while if you ask me. Poor imitation nowadays of a once very good forum. First sense of disagreeing with someone very often leads to arguing / personal insults. Pretty embarrassing from some posters to be honest.

  2. We were never going to qualify for one simple reason. We can't score goals. While the rest of the team aren't world beaters, they are good enough to match up to other 3rd place teams. Inability to score, however, will kill you every time.

  3. This isn't true at all, he is good enough, like I said, some folk had a serious bee in their bonnet cause he never smiled. According to transfer market he played 66 times for us, 17 goals and 9 assists in that time, A goal contribution every 2.53 games. FWIW, Moult had a goal contribution every 1.48 games, Ryan bowman every 3.18 games, Devante Cole every 2.16 games, Callum Lang every 3.5 games and Tony watt every 2.55 (if my maths is correct) Now I know that doesn't paint the whole picture, far from it, however I think saying he wasn't good enough for us is even further from the truth.

  6. Thanks… I’ll flick through those economics books from my many Uni years and see if I can’t get to grips with simple deduction again.

  7. Got to be honest, I don’t think Justin Amaluzor would even get close to our radar in a non covid world. However, he’s definitely got ability. Im a youth coach at Maidstone Utd and the club have been hit really hard by the inability to receive gate receipts. League fixtures were cancelled and the whole first team squad were put on furlough. Justin was one of the higher earners at the club (on more than you’d think) and he along with all other first team players has had a very long time to carpet bag his wares around the football circuit. There are so many other players at that level in the same boat, he’ll not only be relieved to just be working in football next season, but super hungry to make a go of a big move like this. https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.kentonline.co.uk/maidstone/sport/amp/stones-furlough-entire-first-team-squad-242444/

  8. A non league player on a one year deal likely to be on buttons to see if he can make the step up is hardly worth the amount of soaked knickers in the past few pages of this thread. It's not like we're building the team around him or that's the end of our summer signings for fuck sake.

  9. And Leicester City should never have signed Jamie Vardy from Fleetwood Town. Probably a good idea to write him off now. Then when we coach him into a better player, the usual suspects can start complaining about not tying down players to longer contracts and moaning that we never get high transfer fees.

  10. Are you sure? Did we sign more than 2 or was it fewer? Teach me wise one, sensei

  12. Beaten by a better side. Technically they were far superior and they had the physicality to back it up. You cannot say it was unexpected. As for O'Donnell, he was no worse than the rest of the team who, mostly, looked out of their depth.

  13. @Onthefringes & @Kmac put down the handbags and give it a rest, eh? Christ almighty. We've signed two players! Two! Surely that's a good thing!

  17. He scored 11 league goals in two seasons. Dress it up however you like but that's not good enough. And it wasn't even simply goal scoring. Tony Watt doesn't score many but you don't see people complaining about it because he puts in a shift. Long didn't. Fact of the matter is he hasn't been released by Motherwell because he's a great player. He couldn't cut it here and the club made the correct decision to let him go. We'll miss Kelly, Gallagher, Campbell, Cole, we won't miss Long in the slightest. Harsh maybe but true. Perhaps he'll go off and bang loads in against Fleetwood Town and Rochdale but at our level he wasn't good enough.

  18. I don’t think it was simply down to the fact that he never smiled that got supporters backs up. It was more that he wasn’t contributing as much as he potentially could in games while his face was tripping him that riled people. As I said he was a decent player but just didn’t show it enough and wasn’t nearly good enough to get away with such an attitude. To draw a comparison, Scott McDonald was often a torn faced, whinging arse on the park and he frequently took the huff, but he compensated for it by working his arse off and being a quality player who was excellent in both spells for us. Thus while it was frustrating watching him throw his hands up and growl about the park, you knew that while he was on there he was always likely to contribute to the team.

  21. Yes, in the main, it is. However, many seem less concerned by us signing a player from the youth academy of a championship club whilst the national league south is a far cry more competitive and often a better standard than academy football. Amaluzor has accrued a high number of competitive matches at a highly competitive and pressured level. Getting into the national league is not easy and is more costly than people think. National league North and South have therefore been recognised as a breeding ground for lower league talent for some time. An example of this is former Maidstone player and now Wimbledon captain Joe Piggott. He has consistently been banging them in at league 1 for a few years. GA will no doubt raided the north league before.

  22. We have had him in training with us so we haven’t just drawn his name out a hat. Let’s see how he does.
