Nightclubs are reopening at full capacity before football stadiums.

I assume you're totally right about indoor events with people packed together (nightclubs / gigs / theatre etc) being more risky than outdoor sports like football, especially where alcohol is involved… but perhaps part of the thinking for doing it the way that’s been announced is to give arts / culture / nightclubs a bit of a break. They’ve been almost entirely closed since the start of the pandemic, whereas sport has been able to continue, albeit partially and with restrictions in place. On the basis that you can’t / shouldn’t (yet) let everything go with no restrictions, it’s arguably fair to let arts / culture go next - this sector has probably been the worst affected. If it means I can’t get to away games for a wee while yet, I’m ok if it means gigs can re-start.

That is what I find unfair here. I’ve been generally supportive of restrictions and the Scottish governments handling of the pandemic but I fail to see how it can be deemed safer, in a Covid-safe sense, to allow people to cram into nightclubs where they will already be or will become drunk and inevitably drop their guard on social distancing than into a football ground which is more or less outside, with no alcohol on sale, sanitisation and cleanliness measures in place and numerous police/stewards in attendance to monitor the situation. I am as desperate as any to see the country get back to normal but I do feel that football fans have been dealt a tough hand on this one.

... Or (depending on your point of view) taking care to protect public health when football fans have consistently shown that they're unwilling to follow basic guidelines

Absolutely Iain. This is possibly my biggest frustration as a Well fan. We've been doing this for years. For Jake Carroll read Stevie Hammell - he was doing this for season after season. I don't know if its because of individual lack of positional awareness; a 4-3-3 formation (I doubt it though); or managerial instructions. We do it irrespective if we're retreating after a broken down attack or whether we're under the cosh and defending deeply. Opponents very rarely give us this freedom. In the LC group stage games, I frequently noticed opposing teams successfully crowding out our wide players with up to 3 defenders at times. If we get a ball into the box from a wide area we usually have to work damned hard to do it. By making it easy for opponents to cross or pass into our box from a wide area it puts unnecessary and unwanted pressure onto our central defenders and keeper. Puzzled.com

I'm a fan of controlled aggression. I just meant that sometimes he gives away needless fouls in the wrong areas of the pitch or picks up an needless booking. Should be easy enough to correct, though, as he gets more experience and I definitely think he's worth his starting place right now.

I see Maguire more a back up to Donnelly in the steely defensive midfield role. Slattery showed today he has a lot more about him than that. Very composed on the ball, can pick a pass and can handle himself as well. Looks like we may have won a watch there.
