  1. I'm in the opposite camp. Maybe I've been in the US for too long, but being told when to mourn, for how long, and how to behave rubs me the wrong way. (Ironically the instruction will come from those who normally rail against the "Nanny State"). If you want to have a national day of mourning for the funeral then have at it, but whether you are pro, anti or indifferent to the Royals, forced, extended and selective cancelations all seem a bit excessive to me. People that are going to embarrass themselves and be disrespectful will have no problem doing that before, during and after the no-sport period. Thankfully, lack of football aside, I'll be able to avoid most of it.

  2. Do you really think a Royal somebody contacted the SFA and instructed them to cancel all football because it would keep the peasants in their place? If so then you are either deluded or obsessed. Given you now want to use the situation to have a go at the Scottish Government suggests it is the latter. I'm just surprised it is not all Burrow's fault. Or is that your next rant? Each sporting/entertainment organisation was left to make up their own mind regarding whether to cancel or not. Some chose to restart on Saturday/Sunday and some did not. I suspect football authorities up here were concerned that some fans (particularly of a certain Glasgow team) would shame the sport and Scotland by disrupting any planned minute's show of respect. So if you want to blame anyone for games being cancelled, blame the SFA and the cretins attached to every Club, including ours, who force them to be ultra cautious. For the record, I am far from a Royalist and am disappointed I will not be heading up to Dingwall tomorrow. But I can understand why that is the case. Just read the Proms have been cancelled completely for this year. How does that fit in with your opinion that postponements are a class thing?

  3. Interesting point. However in the last two home games at Fir Park we have had 3x minutes applause for 3 people who had passed away including a very young girl. I never knew any of them but I was happy enough to show my respect and not just because they were Motherwell fans. Just the decent thing to do. I have no issues with people not liking the monarchy or the Queen. I have issues with them outwardly insulting and showing utter contempt and disrespect. Just not needed and not on a football forum.

  4. 100% agree, when I made my original post last night about not giving a toss if there is any games I really meant I was not too upset if games would be off and played at a different time Hearts fans made a fool of themselves last night at half time and other Hearts fans have been slating them , one certain team in Glasgow would embarass the country like they always do in these situations While I would expect everyone of our decent fans to pay respect their will be an element who will show themselves up , and give the club a bad name which has happened already this season

  5. Anybody got the day off today? Are pubs shutting? Restaurants? Takeaways? Get the games played the same as we do when anyone else dies. Those who are so crippled by grief at the death of a billionaire they never met can make their own arrangements.

  6. May she rest in peace, she dies just where she would have wanted to, in a place and country she loved.

  7. I thought the Queen did a good job. I don't think the job (or the institution in its current form) has any place in a 21st century democracy. I have no problem with people personally handling it however they choose, but a "period of national mourning" is something from the Victorian age that makes me cringe. And being annoyed the football is cancelled while discussing the reasons behind it sounds to me like it belongs in a football forum.

  8. Honestly could not give a toss if we don’t have a game at the weekend, or next weekend Not a royalist at all and far from it, and the blue half of Glasgow especially make my blood boil, but if there no football this weekend it will at least stop people embarassing themselves and being disrespectful

  12. Me not being utterly devastated that a 96 year old wealth hoarding paedophile protector who wears a £35,000,000 hat for fun while children up and down the country starve doesn’t somehow make me a Celtic fan.

  15. To be fair, a night at the opera is probably cheaper than paying to see Ross County play Motherwell!

  16. As long as the Royals are taking a slice of all our wages and getting a final say on what legislation the politicians voters elect can pass then we all have the right to criticise them whenever, wherever we want. The Windsor's have done well to rebrand themselves as an upmarket reality show in the 21st century but that just obscures how much wealth and power they have accumulated at everyone else's expense.

  17. I find it really frustrating tbh esph having forked out a small fortune for a nice weekend away that I'll not be able to get back, Scottish football clearly waiting to see what the English leagues were doing before we committed to a decision. A minutes silence and black arms would more than sufficed. We are denied going to the football but we can nip along to the Hydro to see the likes of Kevin Bridges in front of 10,000+ for a chuckle or head to the theatre, cinema and so forth.

  18. It's a weird place the Isle of Man. They are somehow completely fine with having to scrape half a dozen TT riders off the road year in year out.

  19. Yep - no need to cancel anything, life goes on. There are so many ways to show respect and mark the occasion. The state funeral should be sufficient. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  22. Keith McRae the best ginger haired goalie we ever had. Mind you the competition was John Fallon and Craig Samson. Seriously though one hell of a goalkeeper/right back/centre forward.
