22 seconds from Bevis winning the header to the ball hitting the net. 9 players get a touch, McGinn is the only outfield player who isn't involved but makes a dummy run for SOD. Brilliant goal.
What I really enjoyed about yesterday is the willingness to change it. 2 up front in the first half wasn't working. In part as neither of the front 2 were good enough but also we were out muscled in midfield for a variety of reasons.
Having a manager being willing and able to adapt the set up mid game is refreshing. It was an obvious change that we needed but previous managers were often too stubborn to change. SK is showing an ability to adapt as we go.
FWIW given Lennon is learning & Spittal/Slattery both prefer to get up the park the formation we finished the game is currently the one we should start with.
I’ve been pleasantly surprised how well Kettlewell has done .
He took over a complete shambles of a team both how they played and the obvious lack of team spirit and confidence .
Nobody could have envisaged how he actually turned it round .
Other thing I like about him is his ability to realise and accept when he gets it wrong /sees its not working and changes it and finds another way . The way he’s managed to get rid of some of the players by being honest with them about there playing chances has been impressive . It’s been a total cull and he’s done it in a professional way (Efford maybe not so much )
I think we might have a decent manager on our hands and if given time and PATIENCE from fans and board then given a reasonable amount of time he will defo improve us .
Probably needs another couple of windows but I think he has a clear plan of how he wants things to pan out .
Hopefully he’ll get the time to do it as he started with a low bar and I feel he deserves a chance to build his own team and put his stamp on it .
To summarise although he’s not in the door that long I think he GETS the club and has bought into the job quicker than I thought he would .
For me a good fit for our club , a decent bloke by all accounts , firm but fair and most importantly the players seem to have bought into him unlike the previous two incumbants
I thought he was somewhere in between. Great on the ball not so good off it. His first game of course, but in the first half he was caught out a good few times when defending. Surprised to see him on the left side, as I thought he was right sided. Give him time to settle in. Unless we sign another LWB, I'd switch him and SOD. Again, for different reasons, not an endorsement of McGinley or Wilson.
Rumours I heard today was that the Fletcher deal has been done and waiting for the paperwork. Ollie Shaw also mentioned but think it will be a loan deal rather than a permanent deal.
If that has to be our back 5 for the foreseeable, then I'd like to see Spencer and O'Donnell swap sides. While not perfect, I think O'Donnell is comfortable enough on the left side, and put the young boy on his natural right side.
In fairness he started off the move for the winning goal with a lovely pass out wide.
His hold up play definitely improved in the 2nd half too. Not saying he's the answer to all our problems but there's something to work with and I think Kettlewell has shown enough in his time in charge to earn our backing
Paton changed the game for us. He was excellent, had composure when we were lacking it, and it brought the other midfielders into the game. I might still be high on that last minute goal, but I think I love him.
