  2. I think that's quite harsh to be fair. It's clear that injury has hampered him. It's also clear that he knows it and isn't trying to play on

  3. There will plenty of rumours and based on prior seasons, about 90% of the new players we bring in will not have been mentioned in any of them. Also, the window doesn't close for another 3 months.

  4. Not that every Championship-level striker will do as badly as Shields, of course. But the gulf in quality is there for us to see when the playoffs happen each year usually. Some fans complain when we sign a no-name player from the lower reaches of the English league, but I'd hazard a guess that the leagues we're signing from down south are likely better quality overall than the Championship up here.

  5. Lol. Nothing wrong with SK overthinking........as long as everybody on here agrees with him. I'll join Grizzlyg in saying well done for persisting with the Degree despite your Jon Obika like injury record.

  6. Yeah, he sees far more than we ever will, day in, day out. If the club had extended his contract as a player I'd have expected men in white coats to get their giant butterfly nets looked out, but if we needed a coach for the forwards and the management believe Obika can do the job, it's worth a punt.

  7. And they call Kettlewell an overthinker 😜

  9. To be honest, I hadn't read Kettlewell's comments until a few minutes ago. Obviously the club had the option to extend his deal as a player and were not going to do so. None of us have any clue whether Jon Obika will be a decent coach or not, but I can't believe Kettlewell would be paying him to just hang around contributing hee haw, so he must've seen something. Yeah, this is his first go at coaching, which probably means he'll be getting paid accordingly.

  10. The option was definitely ours, not his?

  11. Given the musical chairs over recent years, I think we've been short of a first-team coach, hence the academy and reserve coaches hanging about in the dugout for first-team games. If so, Obika has filled an empty post and not taken a wage away from a potential signing.

  12. Whether he had another option of a player is immaterial if we've swapped his playing wage for a coaching wage and no one has come of the coaching staff we've in essence wasted a wage that could have gone to the playing budget.

  13. Rumours really don't mean very much in the scheme of things to be fair

  14. We’ll be pipped at the post all summer. Get used to it.

  15. Don't worry son, that’ll be a clause in your new contract.

  16. Hope he’s not coaching the forwards

  17. I never said that we "sign a league." I said that when we sign players from the lower reaches of the English game our fans tend to complain a bit, despite the quality being comparable with the Championship, if not better. Of course, it always depends on the player. But scoring goals in the Championship isn't an indicator of their ability to do it at our level, as evidenced by Shields's time here.

  18. I very much doubt any of the leadership/management at the club will be delaying anything relating to next season's plans and signings based on potential investment. If they are, I would seriously question why they're in the roles they are. I agree we might be able to afford a bit more quality and if/when it comes through there might be a bit of an increase in our budgets but it won't be as transformational as that. It might mean a few extra loans/deadline day signings but I'm not expecting it to have a huge impact.

  19. Always enjoyed my days (end evenings) out Shawfield - fair to say it was unique. The ball boys had a tough gig if it ended up on the track, and behind the goals was a lot of ground to cover.

  20. Nobody ever suggested we make a move for Bowman, it was just a comment on how I liked his style and application when he was at Fir park.

  21. To be fair it must be torture for them just now, season finished, transfer window not open no rumours about incoming players they can label as pish, so every chance for a whinge is taken.

  22. He never made an appearance at Somerset or Firhill last season, I wonder what the issue is.

  23. If you want to see what multi-millionaires can do to a club, look at Man Utd. They bought everything without investing a penny of their own money, award themselves huge wads of cash every year while leaving the club servicing huge debts at high interest rates - debts that are secured by the clubs assets; not by the owners' assets. I'm not saying that is what will happen here, but there are ways to invest in a club and there are "ways" to invest in a club. As I've said before, the most important thing for me is the exit plan. What is going to happen when the investor leaves, runs out of money or gets bored? Are they going to take their money and run, will they sell to a property developer or will they leave a self-sustaining (or at least healthy) infrastructure behind.
