Losing to Sligo over 2 legs is worthy of criticism A new manager losing his 1st friendly in a bounce game to a very competent Dutch side? Cmon man3 points

Ask Dundee if Tony was a safe pair of hands. The statement ...... knows the Scottish game and safe pair of hands is why Scottish Football is shite, boring and dying on its arse. Thought you had more imagination than that.2 points

I think I may be one of the perceived pant pissers as i recognise a couple of my comments lol I certainly didn’t mean to offend or annoy any of our precious forum members but I don’t think I was wrong? But it’s a pre season friendly I agree and tbh I’ve forgotten all about it today. As much as I didn’t see many positives last night, it was good to watch us play and have players getting game time against a good side and I did think highly of a couple of youngsters thrown on in the 2nd half. ultimately tho it’s a fans forum, loads of supporters have different views, no point in folk getting worked up about it.2 points

And literally every season - at some point in the season- you have us getting relegated. 2nd July however must be your record?2 points

It's the first game against decent opposition - with a Motherwell team that's obviously needing strengthened particularly up front - plus we are missing our goalie. I'm not advocating for accepting mediocrity but Im not unduly concerned at this point either.2 points

Who’s pissed themselves or gone insane on here? The over-the-top jibes aimed at those of us who dare to use a fans’ forum to offer balanced criticism and praise of the team are pathetic. It’s a tired, lazy trope at this point.2 points

It's almost as if teams with 30,000 fans can bring in better players than teams with 4,000 fans. FC Twente would challenge Rangers and Celtic in our league. They are miles and miles ahead of most Scottish teams. When our league campaign kicks off we will mostly be playing teams of a much lesser level. Anyone reading anything into this match has a seriously high regard of Scottish football.2 points

Aye they probably think Pressley is a safe pair of hands that knows the Scottish game.1 point

Shankland is staying at hearts now and would be well out of our price range even when miller is sold.our forward line needs serious attention though, last night only highlighted the problems that we seen the whole of last season.1 point

I don’t think the result matters, I’m sure it’s about the new gaffer seeing what he can improve and where the focus will be in building a squad that will be able to compete1 point

If that’s the case, you could add this requirement: “Do you understand the difference between pissing your pants and offering critique on a fans’ forum?”1 point

I'm really not interested in how Twente played, good or bad, this season or last. And I could not care less about Falkirk or Edinburgh City. All of whom were, like us, playing their first game of the season. So all the same qualifications apply. What I am interested in is Motherwell and I expected more from them yesterday, even with all those valid comments about first game, new Manager, opposition, new tactics etc etc. And that's fair comment. Or am I and others not allowed to say we were disappointed in what we saw? Not overly concerned, but disappointed. Rightly or wrongly I expected more. The performance of our experienced defenders was poor and they looked far from comfortable at being asked to play out from the back, with Ward also struggling supporting as sweeper. Midfield and up front we looked ponderous, with little link up play. Lack of pace all over the pitch. Little threat up front. I challenge anyone who watched the game to say my assessment was wrong. . The youngsters that came on performed well, which also highlighted how off it the first choices were. But for me those youngsters were the only positive yesterday. Again that fact raises questions. And the budget available to the opposition is irrelevant. At times last season those same players performed well against opposition with far greater resources than us. Even when playing against superior opposition, I came away from some games feeling we had did ourselves justice., despite losing. Not yesterday. Will we improve? Most definitely. Am I saying we will struggle this season? No . Did I expect more from our established players? Yes. Will the new Manager be more aware now of the challenges he faces? Undoubtedly. The criticism posters are getting for raising valid points is nonsense.1 point

I don't think it is a balanced criticism based on the evidence in front of us. Its the managers first game (he has been in place a couple of weeks) we have lost quite a few players (thank god in some cases) he has a couple of new signings, we aren't fit, we are playing against a FAR superior team in every single aspect, he wont know his best team or formation and he will bring in his own players given time, some of the doomsday comments already on here has hit a new low. These games are about trying things and experimenting, nothing can be drawn from them!!!! So if the perfomances are the same in mid October, then fair enough.1 point

"Defensively worryingly bad" "Miles off it, nowhere near the level" "Verging on embarrassing" "Looked awful" "Worrying signs already at this early stage" "Players X,Y,Z shouldn't be anywhere near the first team" "Chasing shadows" "Early days but uninspiring. Expected better" (Albeit as part of a much more sensible post) "In for a rude awakening when the real stuff starts" All sound pretty pant pissy to me.1 point

One things for sure I liked what I was seeing you can sort of see already how we are wanting to play it will only get better as time goes on with everything else. Love how vocal JBA is on the touchline giving out orders what's he wants from first to last minute. So all in all once this group is upto speed, few new faces we will be grand.1 point

Some of the negativity is unbelievable bit shouldn't be surprised. It's their first game of season in sweltering heat against a well established side. Only shock is folk aren't calling for JB to leave......yet Keep the faith folks1 point

To early to tell with Ward & Elliot. Maswanhise has pace, but his final ball can let him down. Still time for him to develop. Stama chasing shadows again today. He needs someone up beside him, and or wingers who can cross a ball. Passing from the back or hoof ball to nobody upfront. Interesting choice!? Best formation questionable. Really?? after our first pre season game with a new manager finding out about his players!! Its all well that we know our squad weaknesses, but weve watched them enough over time. The manager is still learning on who can do what. Patience. Pre season is all about fitness and trying things.1 point

I’m not going to overreact to tonight’s performance or result, but there are some glaring issues that need sorting: We badly need a proper back-up—or even a replacement—for Oxborough. Ward was poor tonight. We need a left-back who’s genuinely ahead of Wilson. SOD should be shown the door. He was appalling yet again. We’ve still not replaced Casey. Maybe McGhee fills that gap, but I’d still want another option ahead of Balmer. We need a proper successor to Miller. It’s not Elliot Watt or Halliday. Maswanhise isn’t the answer. We need a proper winger. Stama isn’t the answer either. We need a big, athletic centre-forward who can actually lead the line. Passing out from the back? It’s never going to work with this keeper and this defence. And do we even know what our best formation is? Where do Sparrow and Fadinger fit? You could ask this of others as well. On the plus side, a few of the young lads stepped up under difficult circumstances. I thought number 30, Campbell Forrest, was the standout in midfield. And the manager now has a much clearer picture of what he’s working with, and what he still needs.1 point

Jeez folks, it's a pre season game. I didn't see any of it so can't comment but these are games when we learn and get fitness sorted.1 point

Come on - did you actually think we were going to beat them. It's a bounce game and that's what we need at this point1 point
