I’m not complaining, but it’s Interesting that after all the hype about Rangers and Celtic wanting to sign Elliott, Just and Maswanise, they’re both prepared to dole out transfer fees on players from abroad of the level that was suggested they may need to pay us for these players. Not prepared to pay Scottish clubs proper transfer fees for their players but hoping they will jump at the first number THEY decide they WANT to pay. They don’t want other clubs to become financially independent and/or stronger. 😡

I think only players registered by this Thursday can take part in our first two Conference ties. So I am hoping to see a few incoming very soon. Especially if the number currently injured is as high as seems to be the case. I get that some are not too fussed about those Euro games but I take the opposite view. Win the tie and the players and fans will be on a high and the feel good vibe within Fir Park will return. Lose and the pressure builds on players and Manager for and the trip to Easter Road. Won't take much for the doom and gloom to return to the Stands. So, yes, these two games are important and not just for the financial boost. We need to put ourselves in a position to progress.

To be fair, nobody at either club has ever said they want to sign any of them. It's just a daily procession of ex-players saying that they should/have to sign them because they are too dim to think they might want to play anywhere else.

They started running into problems when players were getting cup tied because they played in one competition and then the selling club dropped down a league e.g. from the Champions League to the Europa League. That meant your new signing was suddenly cup tied from the Europa League, even though he wasn't at the time of signing. With so many teams in European competition these days, and so many teams moving between Champions/Europa/Conference, they decided just to scrap it. They scrapped it in the English Cups as well I think. In the days of transfer windows as opposed to signing any time during a season, I'm not sure it's really needed.

I agree with Ox being better than Connelly but given he's started the pre-season games I think he'll start where I disagree though is Just, Watt, Maswanhise will all play the Euro ties if fit and bids for them haven't been accepted. None of them have played European football before and all of them have spoke of their desire to play in Europe at various points last season. Each round we go through is worth about £250k to the club it's not like with Miller last season where he wasn't risked against lower league opposition. To me we need about 8/9 in the door before the end of the window we're light in basically every area other than RB but we also don't want to end up with a bloated squad like the Kettlewell and Alexander eras.
