  1. For people defending lamie okay fair enough he’s slightly better than Sol at the moment but remember he was a back up that by luck found himself in the team. He struggles to even “do a job” for me he’s not a SPFL premiership standard defender. Very limited ability with the ball and slow as a week in jail Charles Dunne 10x the player and he was an average premiership player that a manager got the best out of because he had good attributes. For example last week Penney switched off for hibs second, ball over the top, any decent centre half should be over covering him for the ball in behind but he’s too slow off the mark and even slower when gets going. After what I said about Blaney earlier regards to being not good enough it came from KVV (apparently taking a dislike to him) as Blaney bullied him in training in a session… outside looking in with comments about Slattery earlier we have a team full of egos and stinking attitudes.

  2. Seen a few folk slating Slattery however he’s playing with dog shit players. Personally he’s up there technically wise with the ball the best at the club, he was brilliant his first 6 months but after Xmas last season the whole team standards have dropped. For me the same is happening with Penney playing with the likes of Lamie and Sol next to him (Sol another who was very good in his first few months with us but now is horrendous).

If we can see it you hope the coaching staff can see it, we need to bring in 2 new Centre halves none of the 2 of them have pace or ability on the ball. Lamie was a bit part player before last season and was off to Dundee, why we ever allowed him the chance to stay is beyond me and shows how poor the management of the club has been in the last year or so. FWIW from what others have said regarding Blaney, I’ve also been told he’s piss poor, maybe different when playing however willing to give him a chance.

Glad to see young Johnston be thrown in and a massive upgrade on SOD and McGinn (utter shite caused us so many problems last week). Wasn’t a massive lover of McKinstry there’s a reason he was dropped and for me doesn’t work hard enough when off the ball and tends to go hiding but he’s useful and if he can keep chipping in with goals that’s okay, rotation player for me.

Spittal is a rotten and you forget he is there he should be next to be dropped.

Only positives for me were as said before Max Johnston, the 2 new guys looking decent and an upgrade on what we have. 2 Centre halves and a good midfielder, I’m hoping will see us by but it is worrying at the moment especially in games where we should and need to be gaining 3 points. Win next week to get some confidence and go into St Mirren and St Johnstone on a high to hopefully take 6 points.

PS thanks Hibs for the equaliser.

The York chairman has stated they are cheap options with the two of them costing less than one player signed from a second division club at the start of the season, cheap is of course relative. York is 49% percent fan owned and the chairman does not bankroll them, they are not Wrexham. The National league is full of clubs big and small loaning young hungry championship and premiership players looking to move from playing in reserve and academy football to full time mens football. What they have is a manager who was coaching and recruiting under Pochettino at Spurs and at Leeds, he appears to have lots of contacts and a knowledge of young exiting  players who have developed over the last 10 years or so, in that there is an advantage.

Totally agree with that we should be looking at all options especially in January where players generally tend to be more available on loan from under 21 teams. We played spurs in a friendly last month so you’d have thought hammell would have had a word while down there about possibly seeing who was available. Even clubs closer to us like Newcastle etc it isn’t too far for lads to move up here and be far from home either.

Regards to Crankshaw he was pretty highly rated at Wigan and did very well last season in the national league which is where we have seen success when poaching players. We all know the funds we have and players we tend to go for, it’s nice to get players who are playing regular but again as known it’s difficult in this window. Hopefully one more forward addition and we as fans can all see we need a leader or 2, preferably the right side of defence and the middle of the park.

  4. As much as I don’t like Gallagher anymore he served his time got back playing and was playing to a high level for Livingston and yes everyone does deserve a second chance, so we signed him on the back of him being in the form of his life.

Griffiths on the other hand has had mental issues for what 4/5 years now? Went on loan to Dundee scored 2 goals in 15 league games and then 2 goals in 12 league games in league 1 for Falkirk and career rapidly dwindling downwards.

I’m probably as anxious as anyone for the season ahead with our squad seemingly thin on quality but let’s give it until the window is shut admittedly I’d have liked a signing before Sligo but not going to happen. Let’s stop chucking daft suggestions like Leigh Griffiths around.

We don't learn from our mistakes.
4-3-3 doesn't several  players. Many are  out of their position
We don't have the ability to get ourselves up for big games.
We don't create many clear chances against any level of opposition.
GA's assessment of the game was disingenuous .

I don't see it changing.  Will we maintain our win record under GA ?  it's hard to fathom how he's managed it, but he has and may well continue.

The thing that frustrates me is it’s not even a proper 433 with 2 wingers on the touch line attacking with full backs supporting. A lot of the time both Carroll and McGinn had the ball and were forced inside when loads of space were out wide but nobody to start an attack with as Spittal on the left was constantly in the middle, and McGinn had the same when Shields went off in the second half nobody to attack with and let’s face it Paul McGinn is a solid steady eddy but he’s no James Tavernier who even plays with someone in front of him.

I take into consideration past posts about us probably trying to bring in players. Most Motherwell fans accept it can be hard to attract the top players, but for me the 3 so far aren’t anywhere near enough and maybe with the exception of Morris who seems decent the other 2 weren’t needed and won’t have a great impact. I just hope last night makes him go out and bring in a couple new fresh faces particularly players with some pace, but after his comments last night I won’t hold my breath.

It is so disheartening that we got a great crowd last night the place was buzzing, European Thursday night back at Fir Park and a chance to generate a lot of income for the club and we are served that on the park but I’ve seen too many on Twitter saying won’t be buying ST etc. some people need to grow up we don’t support or watch Motherwell and expect success just the players give 110%. Yes the football may not be great at the moment and the manager has next week to save his job properly but we need to get behind the team and not be booing at HT it’s quite embarrassing only 45 minutes into a new season to hear boos ringing out.

I still think we're short of 3 players: a left back, a dominant central defender and a back up main striker. That shopping list may well depend on contracted players moving out though.

Well we do have 3 trialists. 2 attackers…

I genuinely can't wrap my head around folk not rating Slattery. You can see from his technical ability why he was so highly rated in the Southampton/England setups but he doesn't seem to have came up with any pretensions either and does more than his fair share of the unglamorous stuff. I think he's been an upgrade on Allan Campbell.

Personally I’d be asking Slattery do you have any Southampton mates who want to join us to keep him happy the guy is class.

I’m hoping that another 2 or 3 more can be moved - hopefully getting rid of 12 players should mean freeing up around £450 to £500K minimum - then add to that money some of the extra for our higher league position - possibly £400K - and invest some of our  future income from European games - say £300K - ( Hibs got £640K for getting knocked out at Q3 last season so we should be looking to at least aiming get that far with a decent squad), giving a potential £1M to £1.1M to spend on 5 or 6 players and increase KVV & Kelly wages to extend their contracts.
If better players gets us to the knock out round in Europe or a decent cup run and a higher than 10th league position then the club would make more money that can be used to pay these players wages the next season.
I’d happily pay S.Davis £2500 to £3000 a week along with £3000 for McAtear  then add the same or up to £4000 for 2 defenders and a striker that have a good chance of being sold on at a profit.

£1m in wages that should see us, the fans, watching a better team that could secure us a decent season and possibly a good cup run - if only the board could be so adventurous.

All sounds well and good but I’d rather be a lot more optimistic in our signings players from 19-27 ex prem youth players or top talents in Scot championship and maybe left field abroad signings. Davis would be good for a season but he’s probably leaving rangers for a reason to wind down and may just be taking a wage but he’s obviously quality but sounds done deal with St Mirren and Robbo link. With McAlear we aren’t paying a 20 year old boy £3000 a week that’s fact especially when we have Cornelius who’s probably as good if not better.

Not saying McAlear isn’t a good signing he’s a cracking player but not worth to Chuck 3k a week at, he’s only kicked on at ICT last few months.

  9. Here’s the highlights, I’d like to see him up front as he looks prolific up top and was for the Greek side but obviously able to play out wide. Saying that Tony Watt was our top scorer from playing wide left.

According to BBC gossip we have had a bid for Zak Rudden rejected, interesting considering GA has supposed to have said we didn’t need another striker at the moment which might suggest TW will be away this month.

No idea what Rudden is like but looks like a Jordan White type player?

Quite the opposite, he knows how to actually play football with regards to not just standing there like a wooden plank. Rudden only 21 too plenty of potential, pretty prolific so far. Think he’d be a cracking signing for us.

Up there in my favourite well games I’ve been to, the pure scenes after that 3rd goal I had a perfect angle of it too from the east stand. Cup runs always hand that little bit extra specialness.

Are you sure? He played for Manchester United U23s as a trialist last night...

He was in at the start of the week or possibly last but he has followed a good few of our players on Instagram and was on Van Veens story.

I remember we signed him and Lawless and most people thought he was a very poor signing and Lawless was a great piece of business, myself included.

Would happily take him back but as mentioned I doubt we will sign him as we have a lot of players in that position already.

Not many good enough though to push for the first team, we definitely need someone in for that front 3 and Shields return whenever will be a bonus.
Seem to be looking at centre backs anyway as we have one in on trial ex Arsenal Joseph Olowu.

It was a small sample size with us, but he gelled well with Watt and Cole and didn't have a bad game, I'd definitely have him at motherwell if we could get him (can't believe I'm saying that after his completely underwhelming announcement in January).

The only issue I'd see is that he'd be one of 6 players competing for that front 3, so he could end up not getting the minutes he's after.

A lot of people were underwhelmed by the signing but if you took a look back he got a decent move to Ipswich in the championship after having a decent few season at Crawley and also scored a screamer against us IIRC. Obviously he ended up at hearts for a reason but they were still making good signings last year and ultimately he played decent for us so I’d take him back definitely a good addition to the side for the wide positions.

Would be tough on Lamie as he has improved,  for me the biggest defensive headache is left back, If Carroll could defend as well as he could cross there would be no issue.  Same starting xi apart from Ojala but no idea which centre half he dropped unless we tried 3 5 2

One game Carroll defends great then next game has a stinker defensively think he’s a very decent player but his height and pace helps him out a lot.

100%. There was talk last season about playing narrowly, loading the box and allowing crosses to come in. Most evident in the 1-1 home game v Rangers.

Not sure if that is a strategy but Carroll runs straight back to the box whilst we can all see where the Hibs player was collecting the ball. Almost at the corner flag. That meant he had time and space to pick out Murphy. Yes from there it was a bit of a fluke. But to me that is awful defending. I am not saying run right out to the Hibs player but try to get closer so that he is under pressure.

All in all it was great to be back at Fir Park for the 1st time in 16 months. Only 3500 home fans was strange given the supposed clamour for tickets and complaints that Hibs got 2000. Appreciate it is summer and Sunday at 16:30 live on Sky but thought we could have shifted 4000+

I have to admit despite the result I was pleasantly surprised at our performance. Hibs more or less had the same team as last season plus a couple of St Mirren players. We had players playing their 1st competitive games. Players not having played with other players. So all told I was surprised we ran Hibs as close as we did. Yes the result was disappointing but I have more hope for the season ahead than I did before KO.

If we can add a few more 1st team quality players then I would be genuinely excited. Maguire did well but another midfielder along the lines of Slattery and another CB along with one or two more forward options and we could have the makings of a right good quality side. One that could battle for best of the rest outside Top 4. Still a lot has to fall into place for that to happen and there are other teams that will strengthen also.

I also found it pretty strange as I’m sure I seen we had actually sold out in tickets... Probably trying to be hopeful as it did look really busy in all stands but was hoping it was more 6.2k rather than 5.2k and someone had misread it. Anyway the atmosphere was definitely there and the buzz of seeing the ‘Well again was there amongst everyone.

With regards battle for outside of the top 4 I don’t see why we can’t go and actually challenge for 3rd or 4th (optimistic I know) however that’s basically a whole new team which seems to have a great deal of quality in it, once certain players are upto speed it’ll be even better also adding in a few more additions and a couple to return. Should be no reason why we can’t go beat hearts, hibs, Aberdeen etc. First and foremost though we get ourselves in a good position as far away as possible from relegation spots then we start looking up to the top 6 or further, just 2 seasons ago we did finish 3rd...

  17. Yeah I really like Barry Maguire as well, bit unfairly treated by some on her as he’s maybe not the next Turnbull or Campbell and wasn’t an instant WOW academy graduate. However last season when he first came in the team he was one of the better ones hence why he’s still here and will be sure to kick on with GA this season which he is showing already.
