There is a big bonus for the cup winners this year, straight into the EL playoff round, with the losers dropping into the group stage of the new Europa conference league, so guaranteed European group stage football for the winners.
If either of tbe ugly sisters win it, 3rd place in the league will take up the cup place, so even though we have had a shit season so far, we are technically still in with a chance of European group stage football, so the cup needs to be played.
Agreed...though it should have been scaled down

Trying to play a full scale scottish cup this season was a mad decision

Maybe I'm a dinosaur but a move away from Fir Park gives me the absolute fear on a few different levels

Yeah, you're probably right. I'm just not sure what Robinsons motivation would be to make something like that up.
Me neither...a strange thing for him to say

True.
I did wonder if Robinson advised players (and others) to keep pre-contracts tightly under wraps after the reaction Hastie got. I know that's part of the game, but when it affects players the manager will do what they can do manage the situation.
These things are never kept quiet...if say Campbell had signed a PCA with Millwall, his parents would know his pals would know, he would tell close team mates, office staff would find out etc etc.
I honestly think its highly unlikely

Why?
Because these things usually 'leak'. I'm sure one of the 'in the know' types would have found out by now.

I wonder who Stephen Robinson was referring to when he said that some players had signed PCAs with other clubs.
I'd be surprised if it was a fact to be honest

So our current injury list is: Carson, Fox, Dunne, Donnelly Grimshaw O'Hara, Gallagher Lawless, and possibly McGinley? That's almost a full team. No wonder our squad looks bloated. Thats the worst for a few years.
You playing Fox at centre half or striker?

Shankland is indeed pish. Siegrist is their MVP.
Lamie did a decent job, but he did have his customary brain farts, and I can't imagine he'll start against Celtic. The rest of the defence had a pretty good game, and it's great to see Carroll settle into a run of games.
The midfield was overrun, but all three put in good performances, with Maguire sticking out in the first half. Hopefully he can get a few more games and solidify a place in the side. As said above, not all youngsters need to be saleable assets, we also need reliable long-term players. It will be interesting to see who makes way when players return from injury.
The forwards all had excellent games and ran themselves into the ground. Long showed again what he is capable of when it comes to finishing, and Cole is deadly from 6 yards. Watt is indispensable at the moment as he links well and gets us up the park, but he really needs to improve his finishing.
It's a travesty that Shankland has caps for Scotland

Its beginning to look like another season can be added to the long list of the 'worst Motherwell teams in history' but managed to stay up kind of season

Am I missing something what has McGinley done wrong? I’m on the bandwagon for Lamie though, should have been signed as nothing more than back up, however I think McGinley is more than capable of doing a job, unless he’s not doing it in training but whenever I’ve watched him he’s been decent.
McGinley gets really unfair treatment in my opinion

With less than 48 hours to go, you can’t help but feeling entirely underwhelmed by the business we have done. There’s no significant increase in quality as yet (yes, lawleff is better than seedorf but who isn’t). IMO we went into this window needing a minimum 3/4 players of significant superior quality to what we have - bodies that would come straight into the first 11. Not only to help us escape a relegation battle but to also galvanize the support and give us a backbone as we heads into a summer whereby we stand to loose 3-4 of our bigger names (though arguably some of the poorer performers recently). Lawleff was / is always/should be a squad player, Smith seems decent but again isn’t a focal point or a nailed on starter and Foley is somewhat of a baffling signing given he’s 34, hardly kicked a ball all season and is on a short term deal. We could have/should have invested in this window however I can’t help but feel we’re doing the absolute minimum as a club to hopefully squeeze out a 10th placed finish. The abundance of dead wood remains, to be cleared in the summer.
All of which amounts to the most monumental rebuild I can remember, with the distinct possibility of an almost unrecognizable starting 11 next season - that doesn’t hold much hope for a team that might be chasing promotion.I'm trying hard to come up with a more concise response to this, but I cannae be arsed...so I'm just going to go with...
