Brilliant is a strong word to use on this forum unless we are signing Ngolo Kante or someone similar, even then there would be doubters. :)

N'golo Kante isnt the type of player we need right now

  2. Anyone that doesnt think that was embarrassing last night, probably has some form of heat stroke. Problems all over the pitch.

Central defence is alarmingly poor, both full backs were ponderous and indecisive. Up front we lacked any sort of cohesion or focal point.

Individually, I do not think any of our starting midfielders are poor players, but collectively? Oh my, it just wont do...I dont see OHara or Donnelly making a huge difference either. Playing 4-3-3 with a lack of a real playmaker sees us extremely easy to play against and contain.

Alexander needs to get his finger out his arse, pronto

Tbh I would still fancy Brown to Boss Crawford. Not going to lie as I hate criticising players on line, he just doesn’t do it for me.

Physically he is weak, he’s not very fast, he does not win a lot of tackles, doesn’t create a lot, doesn’t have a lot of interceptions, isn’t a great passer.

I don’t rate him at all. Squad player maximum for me.

You've just described Keith Lasley at his peak

Bit of a shit comment, what about the guys who can’t afford the up front cost of a ST but pay their money every home game?

What about the guy who pays weekly and also pays into the Well society?

It’s not “the only fair way to do it” just the easiest way to do it.

I don't see how it's a shit comment at all...I never bought a book last season but have done for this one. Had a ballot came about when I didnt have a season ticket I'd have took it on the chin.

It's back to the who's the bigger fan. Plenty fans who have not yet bought their season ticket who are ruled out. Also well known there are a fair number of 'Well fans who don't make league games very often but attend Cup games almost religiously.

That said there is no solution here. I think it should probably have been an open ballot to those on the supporters database.

However...we can get substantially more than 2k in a 13k seater stadium.

Balloting those who have stuck their hand in their pocket by buying a season ticket is the only way fairway to do it

Absolutely delighted with that signing tonight...a starting centre back and an intelligent central midfielder and I'll be happy and pretty confident going into the new season

No not clearly the weakest player that's your opinion. Dykes and Adams are far worse strikers that SOD is a defender. But they are deemed to be the best options by the manager who i expect you will say is rubbish as well. The negative posts on this forum about a Motherwell player who is representing his country are DUGSHITE

I'd suggest it's the opinion of most Scotland followers who arent blinded by the good old claret and amber spectacles

As for the strikers, both are playing consistently at a higher level than our guy

On the manager, I have a fair amount of time for him, but I think he could a fair few things wrong over the past couple of weeks

The criticism of O'Donnell is over the top, his performance last night wasn't his best but was of a similar level to that of most of his team-mates.

I've seen a few posters on here parroting the meedja line that Nathan Patterson should be in the team from this point forward (and in some cases that he should have played the 3 Euros matches). Worth pointing out that he has played 7 senior matches for the Buns. 7.  He may turn out to be another Cafu but I think he needs to prove it at domestic level over a longer period than that before he's heralded as the next big thing.

But then how many players have we seen struggle to get a game for Scotland then become a regular in the squad as soon as they sign for one of the ugly sisters. Whatever happened to Lewis Morgan?

I have sympathy with both Clarke and SOD as there is no other obvious candidate...Palmer is on a level par with SOD, Paterson is young and highly inexperienced, Rooney would have been a huge risk, Hickey has hardly played in months and is inexperienced, Forrest wouldn't do any better defensively than SOD...so I see why Clarke sticks by him. It's just a pity that he is clearly the weakest player in the regular starting XI.

Having been an avid reader as regards the content and discussion on this forum, I decided to join. May I just say for my first post, Mr Fortyarder you must have been some player yourself and to describe our Captain and 20 plus Scotland cap player as Dugshite I wonder why you even post or support the team. Some of your comments regarding our players are outrageous.

What's supporting Motherwell got to do with my opinion of a player playing in a Scotland Jersey?

Do I think SOD is adequate at our level? Aye...do I think he is what we need in a Scotland Jersey? Absolutely not.

There are nae claret and amber tinted specs where me and Scotland are concerned.

Disagree. Put together a 5 minute highlight reel of why we went out and you'll have a couple of contributions from O'Donnell where he arguably could have done better alongside plenty from almost every other player on the pitch (who are all on 5/10 times his club wage) - the biggest culprits being our midfielders and forwards who missed plenty of half chances and a few absolute sitters that could have turned all three games in our favour. Likewise, put together a highlight reel of positive passages of play and chances created and you'll have O'Donnell playing his part there.

We went out due to a combination of poor finishing, poor defending and poor decision making...SOD had a nightmare against the Czechs when we were beaten and was for me our worst performer last night. I get that he is the lowest paid player in the squad...theres probably a really good reason for that.

I saw the comment as being tongue in cheek and more about the world we live in rather than disparaging the player. These days, you are only as good as your last twenty minutes of play, with only two options, great or grotty. Of course, I could be wrong.

Yes and no...for me, he is completely lost at that level and was comfortable our poorest performer last night despite the best efforts of Armstrong

He was. Seem to remember him and another trialist (Dembele?) got 45mins each in a friendly with Stirling. Think most preferred the other guy on the day haha

Aye the ones that didnt know what they were looking at

The selection of Paterson really boils my piss. Eight first team games and he is in the squad. Is that because Rangers had only one other player there? To be a defender for 8 games in the team that wins the league by miles is not exactly someone who has been put under any pressure. Reminds me of Jack Hendry who played half a season with Dundee who were at the bottom of the league and under pressure every week - no where near Scotland squad and was then transferred to Celtic and only played intermittently for the rest of the season but got into the Scotland team.

Old firm bias holds this country back. The press touting their players. No doubt we will now get extensive coverage of the Lowland League next season and there will be some wonder kids we will be told about and then never hear of again after next season.

I hope O'Donnell does really well and keeps this recent media darling on the sidelines.

In general, I agree with this...however I think its pretty clear to see that Patterson and Gilmour are going to be tremendous players. At right back, we have a real problem, as SOD (for me) isnt good enough and his deputy Palmer even worse, so I can fully see the logic in taking another youngster along as back up. I'd have done the same with 3rd choice keeper, rather than take McLaughlin along.
