I like both players by my point stems from the way in which we, imo, gave Faddy too many chances after it was clear he was finished. He looked done in 2013/14 and then he left at the end of that season, which seemed like his time had come to a natural end. He then goes to St.Johnstone, hardly features, we re-sign him again and he offers even less this time. As you say it was depressing and sad to watch him in his latter spell, but he continued to get game time. And then this summer, some of our fans wanted us to give a similar chance to Moult even though he was with us last season and we had to cut short a loan deal because he couldn’t get fit for the first time in five years. Now why would anyone want us to do that? To use up a wage and a place in the squad for a player that we know for a fact has had horrendous injuries over the past five years and who we released from a loan deal just a few months ago? I can’t see any other reason than for sentimentality. As I said, no one is bigger than the club and there is no room for sentimental signings. And to answer your final question, no I wouldn’t.

He was yes, no argument on that front, but Moult last season even when it was clear that he wasn’t able to contribute anything to the team still had fans gushing about his limited contributions and demanding he be given more game time. It was the same when Faddy returned for his third spell when he was clearly done, he could do absolutely no wrong. I’m not comparing the two players, just the way they are viewed by some Motherwell fans, there is a similarity there. But neither of them and no other player, coach or manager is bigger than the club itself no matter how good they were or what they achieved or contributed. I support a club, not an individual.

I take your point and tbh I probably do need to chill a bit. My issue on this subject is that it's not Celtic & Rangers fans who are making comments and associating the kit to bigotry, it's Motherwell fans. Some of the absolute nonsense posted on here and more especially Twitter since the kit was revealed has been downright pathetic and it's sad that I and others feel the need to defend the club to some of our OWN supporters. It's one thing getting that crap from Celtic/Rangers fans who are tied up in their own deluded worlds, but when Motherwell fans come out with the same crap is tragic imo. The club and the kit manufacturer have done absolutely nothing wrong here. You can like the kit design or you can hate it but to suggest that they are in the wrong because the kit associates us with the Orange order?? Suffering fuck!

You calm doon. It’s a match thread to discuss the lineups and the game itself. Last night we shipped three goals and drew with a lower league side. That’s a statement of fact and we will need to be better in the remaining two games in order to progress and hopefully do so as group winners. There may be a pre-season element to these games but they are still important to us as a club as a Cup run would be great for us.

I don't take pleasure in it, it's more that I just don't understand fans who put certain players on a higher pedestal than the club itself. Faddy and Moult being the prime examples.

Well I’m surprised and delighted that we got the job on on pens. But big questions need to be asked of our squad and especially Mugabi and Lamie. We cannot rely on either of them.

We all know how this ends. But we can have no complaints, because if you can’t defend then you can’t win football games. Hopefully Kettlewell will realise that Lamie and Mugabi just won’t do for us, at any level.

It’s not “just a cup game”. These games are important and this competition is important. We’ve been poor defensively tonight and if we draw/lose on penalties then it will hamper our chances of progressing in the last 16.

It’s just a sad reflection of Scottish society to be honest, not just our support. There’s too much fear and cowing of Celtic and obsession of Rangers and far too much credence is given to both of them.

Interesting lineup tonight. Oxborough gets the nod in goals, Souare starts as does Ferrie, McGinn and Lamie. Some bold moves there and I hope they don’t backfire on us as they so often have in the past when we start pissing around with lineups in Cup ties. These games as important as winning can be the difference between being seeded or non seeded for the last 16. It’ll be interesting to see what Oxborough can do for us and also we get the chance to see what our latest signing can offer.
