Ironic that we punt him a couple of weeks after we make the conscious decision to start playing more football, but with Gorrin, Hastie, Turbull, Gboly, Frear, McCormack and Bigi all competing for starting spots they weren't all going to be happy. All this "luxury player" patter is nonsense. It's just about getting the balance right. We'd have been in poor shape if we had dropped Davie Cooper because he never tackled anyone or tracked back.

Always a gamble for a player moving to a club with no manager. Needs to hope he fits into the new gaffer's plans. Didn't see it coming, but with our recent signings, youngsters and Gorrin hitting some form, can see it makes sense.

My only concern would be a backup for Gillespie - not sure if Ferguson is ready to step in. I suppose that is fairly low risk (and you can often get an emergency loan for a keeper).

Frear was definitely the best of the three at the weekend. Gboly looked knackered from the start and Hastie was good in spells, but - as you'd expect from a youngster at this stage - took on his man or went for the byline at times when an earlier pass would have been better (as his assist against Hibs proved). No doubts that he'll improve on that the more game time he gets, and it's not the worst problem to have.
