The whole "highest earner" thing is another one of those "say it often enough and it becomes true" things people love to repeat with nothing to back it up except that other people have already said it. Whether it's true or not, I'm sure you're right that a major restructure is in order. One which might still see him leave anyway.

Official website says we are discussing a new contract with him.

I still think Robinson was bang on. Expecting professionalism from professionals (including experienced pros) during a game is not a big ask. After the final whistle there is plenty of time for sentiment/celebration/fan appreciation/pennance.
  4. I have. He fitted in perfectly with the ability levels of most of our squad this season.

    Moult.

We don't pay high wages, and sell players on when they have a year or less on their contracts. That deflates their value. We have done well with guys like Marvin and Erwin (and to a lesser extent, Hall) and need to continue in that mould of developing the youngsters and finding "cheap" lower league talent. Not everyone will be a gem, but it only takes one 500k deal to make it worthwhile. The alternative is to do a Dundee Utd and tie down everyone on higher wages and 5 or 6 yr contracts, selling the occasional 1 million+ player. And we can see how that worked out. As for Moult, we should try something creative with add-ons like 300k up front then 20k per goal for his next 3 seasons plus 25% of future transfers.
  6. The level of a struggling Premiership team with a dodgy defence, weak and uncreative midfield and a strikeforce that scored 1 goal or less in 25 league games?
  7. Agreed. Not that I'm a mod, but I've had this discussion with Yabba in the past too. Unless something has crossed the line from a legal perspective, I think it's better for other members to call out posters as and when appropriate.

    Moult.

When was the last time you think we bent over?
  9. Only if ICT have had about 10 years previous of warnings + at least one play-off incident with Rangers with.
  10. Nah, Steve Robinson thinks we can win some of our games.
  11. Given that ICT were fighting to avoid automatic relegation and we were on a day trip to Inverness, the only surprise is the narrow margin of the inevitable defeat.
  12. Sounds like once we heard Accies had an unassailable lead and our game didn't matter, we decided to start the summer holidays 30 minutes early.
  13. See he's getting another run out this afternoon.
  14. I saw that tweet too. Great stuff.
  15. We got more out of him than we did Pearson, though, so maybe a good job he was still on the books.
  16. Aye, it's all fun and games when it starts of with "story goes" on the way back to the car. Then before you know it, we have Trump as President.
  17. Yes to all of those, for various reasons - mostly financial. I know some fans love to think of our Board as drooling imbeciles who can't tie their own shoelaces, but I give them a little more credit than that. And as I post on here every year when it comes to contract negotiations, I don't believe payers or management (or even agents) release the details and yet every year we see posts on here claiming to know exactly how much certain players earn, what their bonuses are and how much of a tip they leave at Nandos.

I think he does fancy him, but doesn't have the budget to take the risk. With the same result that he's likely offski.

Robinson is quoted in the Times today basically saying he's not sure if he will re-sign Lionel or not. For the same reasons we are discussing on here, unsurprisingly. http://www.eveningtimes.co.uk/sport/spfl/15296561.Deal_for_Motherwell_s_Lionel_Ainsworth_could_be_out_of_reach/
  20. "story goes" is the new "friend of a friend". If you think about it for even a microsecond, it makes zero sense.
  21. I think Robinson has known for a while who he's letting go and his list of targets. It's just been a case of "wait and see what league we are in" before he (and the Board) could start the clear out.
  22. Exactly. It could meant the difference between getting one extra player in over the summer or keeping Blyth
