  1. The company I work for was in administration for a year with many rumours regarding if our group would be shut down, sold off etc. and yet we managed to perform our jobs to the expected levels. And I bet many posters on here have gone through the same. Footballers must be poor wee petals if they can't go out and play a game under similar circumstances.

I'm guessing when we were debating the "integrity of Scottish football" regarding letting Sevco to compete in the Premier League, you weren't in the "I don't care if we have to field our U16 team and get gubbed every week - as long as we do the right thing" camp.

When you've just been relegated, a title challenge (and the novelty of winning games after a season of defeats) is a refreshing change. I wouldn't want to do it every year, but "best of the rest" is just a fancy term for "not good enough to win". I wouldn't swap the 2 titles and the Cup win for a Best of the Rest.

    Dom Thomas

For what it's worth, his wiki entry says he was at the Celtic Academy before he joined us in 2012.

Like I said, the economics are different now to the last twice we were in the First Division, but the one thing that made it more interesting is every year we started a new campaign with a realistic chance of actually winning a league title (which we did 2 times out of 4 attempts). I think we are in a stronger financial position now if we were relegated than if it had happened last season, but it would still mean a major shakeup of the club structure. Ultimately, however, I think we should have enough to drag us out of the bottom 2 over the next few months. It really was a nice change though to be standing on the terraces at Brockville, Annfield, Shawfield, Palmerston, Boghead etc. instead of a 4th or 5th trip to Paisley.
  6. Ah, interesting. I was going from Wikipedia and the Roger Hynd page says he was in charge 78-79, However, the Motherwell FC page says he was manager 77-78. That's what I get for reading Wikipedia instead of working.

Some of the best times I had has a 'Well fan were when we were dossing around in the First Division and traveling to all the away games. I doubt it would be the end of the club, but economics have changed and I'm not sure it would have quite the same appeal now.
  8. I'm pretty neutral on the whole thing, but the biggest problem facing those that want the ban lifted is the authorities are just going to say that what is in place now works, so why spend the time and money required to change it and police it.
  9. You memory is playing tricks. My recollection was we were pretty rank and a quick check on statto.com shows that under Hynd our league from started off as: Motherwell 0 - 1 Partick Thistle St. Mirren 0 - 1 Motherwell Motherwell 1 - 5 Celtic Aberdeen 4 - 0 Motherwell Motherwell 0 - 1 Dundee Utd Motherwell 0 - 1 Hearts Rangers 4 - 1 Motherwell Motherwell 2 - 3 Hibs Morton 1 - 2 Motherwell Partick Thistle 2 - 0 Motherwell Motherwell 1 - 2 St. Mirren and by the end of October were firmly rooted to the bottom of the league
  10. There's guys in the East Stand I wouldn't trust with a pair of plastic scissors.
  11. Aye, I think that's the most frustrating thing. While the team may have been a bit lucky to finish 2nd last season (although it's difficult to argue against league position), they should be better than a relegation battle. At the start of last season I thought we'd be looking at mid-table, which should have been the worst case this season. Of course, that's what makes the game good to watch - just not so good when it's our own team that is underperforming.
  12. Aye, and from memory, the law came in to force not long after the Steedmans has invested a few quid in building the bar that overlooked the pitch.
  13. Can't imagine there is much money to be made by the bookie or the club.
  14. This. Especially the one that was relegated and then finished 6th in the First Division the season after. The team that missed relegation thanks to league reconstruction was pretty dire too.
  15. I'm surprised people are still reacting to "her".
  16. That's not the reason. Unless the law has been changed since its original incarnation, the blinds go down because the law says you aren't allowed a view of the pitch when you are drinking alcohol. I remember trips to Kilbowie where they had a nice wee bar that overlooked the park and people were able to drink there and watch the game. Then the new alcohol laws came in and 5 minutes before every game they had to bring down the shutters.
  17. It doesn't matter what our lineup is - if we continue to ship soft goals, we will lose. The question is, how do you make players concentrate for 90 minutes and execute the basics?
  18. Apart from taking over a bunch of chancers and needing a few weeks to bed in his own signings? There was no chance of us turning into a confident, high performing team between our last game and now. Just because we signed a few fresh faces doesn't mean we don't have a hell of a fight on our hands.
  19. Yes, he has. Centre half is his best position and when he's been given the opportunity, he's done OK there. This season, plenty of players have been total mince, so he's in good company if you think he's had some poor performances.
  20. Not really. Kerr has been decent at centre half most times he's played there. He's just one of those guys people live to hate.
  21. I thought he was a "talented left footed winger" rather than a robust box to box midfielder (at least that is how he is desctibed on some of the Everton blogs). I assumed he was brought in to be creative rather than defensive.
  22. Accies have long had a great reputation for the way the treat the youngsters. Seem to go to great lengths to make them happy and give them real chances of progressing through the ranks. Read this piece in the Herald last year which talks about it in more detail;
  23. Lucky you stopped her before she typed the other 3 letters.
  24. No chance it will all come together in this game. However, if we can refresh the team with a couple of the new faces, plus a couple of the youngsters there may be sufficient improvement to boost the confidence a little and grab a victory. Even a new found competition for places might give the metaphorical boot up the arse required.
  25. Is it questions for 'Flow you want or questions for the Board. I doubt 'Flow will be allowed to answer any direct questions on behalf of Board members. If you want some, here's a few: What's the difference between a GM and a Chief Executive role within the structure at Fir Park? For a while it seemed we were budgeting for a top 6 finish and/or quarter finals of a Cup. Looking back, was that a financially prudent approach? If not, how has the budgeting approach been adjusted? What mistakes did we make that left us with a financial loss in the last 3 or 4 seasons despite league success? Does it still seem like a good idea to have voted in favour of reducing the 2nd place finishers prize money? Why hasn't the club made any moves to replace Neil Doncaster - a man who continues to talk down the game in Scotland and who has consistently failed to even find a league sponsor? What lessons have been learned in the past 3 seasons that will see us move towards a profitable (or just break-even) model? What plans are in place, if any, to bring back the live broadcast of games we had on MFC TV? Does the financial compensation we receive from TV companies make up for the long term damage to the fan base when game times are switched at the last minute? Why do Scottish clubs continue to kowtow to our friends in Glasgow? As GM, does he know is Assets from his EBITDA? Bob Malcolm. Why?
