Agreed. I said it early in the Euro campaign, but it's worth repeating. JB did a good business in selling some bankable players and bringing in Gannon as early as he did. With the uncertainty over Setanta etc. plus the money we spent on the pitch, it appears he has made a decent job of balancing the books without hurting the team too much. By taking action early, he appears to have found a good manager and given him time (and money) to get some players in. Meantime, some of our rivals are still struggling to rebuild. No doubt Boyle has made some mistakes in the past, but I think he took some tough (but timely) decisions this time that will pay dividends.

I liked Stokes when he was at Falkirk, but the guy has only scored 4 goals in 2 years since then. Something obviously didn't work out for the guy.

I think that's the key. In an early JG interview he said he wanted to sign 4 or 5 players on permanent deals and 2 or 3 on loan. The idea being that he needed to put together a team for the short term and give himself a chance to evaluate what is available to him for the long term. He might even manage to do another Ruddy with an option to buy.
