  1. Good point, and gives me hope since United are away to Aberdeen on Saturday. Suppose it's just frustrating when most would consider that games against rangers and celtic are ones where you need to raise your game, get a bit of luck, hope they have an off day etc. The rest of the teams in the SPL are relatively evenly matched with regards to wage budgets, fan bases and recent success compared to the two from Glasgow and you can single out any 'bogie' teams for any club - however any points picked up against them throughout the season are probably considered by any other team as 'bonus points'. We are the only team outwith the bottom three who have failed to pick up any of these bonus points so far this season in 6 attempts.

Not so sure about that. I actually write them off as zero points! but as pointed out earlier it doesn't matter if it points from OF or points from any other team what counts is the total points at the end of the season

  2. We have a very small squad and have used a core of 13-14 players pretty much all season. Last season about this time we ran out of legs and their was no energy in our performances and that's one of the major problems with a small squad you have too many players toiling in the final straight.

If your form is good you can keep it going, but when you have to pick yourself up after defeats that's when the problems start.

It's not so much we have to beat Rangers, more we have to get going again quickly after last week. If we lose two on the trot I can see us going into a sustained dip in energy and form and with St. Johnstone and Dundee Utd on our trail again that could be fatal.

Also remember 3 of our final 7 matches are against the Old Firm. We need to get rid of this hoodoo on Saturday.

We can also remember that St Johnstone have to play OF 3 of their final 7 matches. Dundee utd have 2 of their final 7 matches against the OF. Having already beaten Rangers twice what's the chances of them beating rangers 3 times in the one season?

Then of course we all have to play each other.

We are 5 and 8 ahead of our rivals. I think we will go into thesplit with at least a 5 point cushion. Thats a pretty decent margin considering there will only be 15 points up for grabs

  3. Two one to us. Rangers to score within the first ten minutes, we'll huff and puff til half time and get nowhere. McCall will then deliver an Al Pacino-esque speech at half time and we'll pummel them in the second half with Ojamaa and Higdon bagging the goals!

Lets hope they end up having to shift that movie from the fiction section to real life drama!

  4. definately over reactions. we know that we won't perform well every week and then we do have an off week all of a sudden its the end of the world. We will win some and loose some. I fully epxect us to loose next week against rangers but still think that we will finish in third place.

  5. I reckon he'll sign. A move to the English Championship will still be there at the end of next season.

Once our European run comes to an end he can sign a pre-contract in January if he wants.

Exactly David. Wordsmith the contracts so that the players have the flexibility to move on if a decent offer comes in..........at the right time.

  6. Indded Muzz! let's hope they hold their nerve. The fans need to get right behind them and let them know that we are in full support of getting the OF sorted out. and it's not so much a case of getting at them as it isog making the SPL a better league.......just so happens that to make it a better league tone of the first major items is to sort out the OF!!

There really is no reason why the rebel 10 should loose their nerve. Hopefully they have finally learned that there is no need for them to pander to the OF because when it comes down to it who gives a flyin Fk if they are in the league or not!!!! the consequences of them not being a part of it are minimal at most. Lets organize this league by democratic means not by dictatorship.

    Ou est le Guillotine ?

  7. let's hope that the revolution can sort out this post split fiasco as well. There should be a set method for deciding the post split fixtures so that everyone knows at the start of the season how it is going to work. Seems that it's just open to abuse again allowing the authorities to pander to the OF with no set procedure in place for setting the fixtures in a completely unbiased manner.

  8. The 10 rebel teams have much less to loose than the OF if the SKY TV deal goes away. We also have a lot less to loose if Celtic go away. The selfish B's would be off in a heartbeat anyway if england would take them so I for one don't care if they are part of the league or not. The media just perpetuate the myth that Scottish football needs the old firm. That is just not true. Scottiish football might possibly become more enjoyable, entertaining, interesting and unpredictable with the absence of an old firm duo.

Seems fair that the voting system should revert to something like 75% rather than 11 to 1

More even distribution of revenue should help enable competition leading to more interesting and perhaps more closely contested championships.

The object is to improve the SPL "product" as a whole. I'm afraid the OF only want to promote the well being of themselves. All the teams participate in the SPL so the money received by the SPL should be shared evenly. The OF have larger stadiums and will obviously make more money that way than the rest of us but apparently that's just nto enough for them they want a bigger share of everything.

    Viva the revolution!!!

  9. Guys..

Does everybody not see a threat from St.Johnstone..

Win there spare game and only 8 points behind..

    Thoughts

I think the moset serious threat is Dundee Utd. I can see the table setting up close to this for the split

    Rangers 60

    Motherwell 60

    Dundee Utd 50

    Hearts 47

    St Johnstone 46

If we were to play Utd first and beat them then that would wrap up third spot, since we would be 13 ahead with only 12 points left to play for.

  10. ok here I go diving into the realms of fantasy but I'm a Mothrewell fan, what do you expect??

With upcoming games we have a chance to go into the post split fixtures 6 points ahead of Rangers. The post split games would then be a chance to widen that gap. Would love to finish up more than 10 points ahead of them

But more than willing to take any amount ahead of them!

  11. Well folks, the situation has came to the point where the unavoidable answer to this question must be a resounding AIM FOR SECOND!!!!!!

The usual cop out of "take one game at at time" has finally reached the stage where that philosophy and "aim for second" are one in the same. There is no option now, we MUST aim for second.

We win or draw on Saturday and we are in scond place. Although that only might be for a day but regardless, we are now in the siuation where one game at a time is aiming for second place.

    C'mon Ye Well !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  12. Won't they win it even if we beat Rangers? We win on Saturday, and they win on Sunday, they only need 1 point to win the league do they not?

if they beat rangers and we beat kilie then celtic are 21 ahead, of us,with 21 point left for grabs. So yes, after rangers game, ( as in celtic V rangers ) they would only need 1 point, regardless of what anyone else does.

  13. We don't have to slip up for celtic to win pre split. if they beat rangers it doesn't matter what we do after the Killie game. Celtic only require 1 more point to be pronounced champions. So they have 2 games ater Rangers in which to get that point.

  14. 24 points left for grabs just now and Celtic are 21 points ahead. so if they beat rangers next week then they are 24 points ahead of rangers with only 21 left up for grabs. However if we beat killie then we will still be 21 points behind celtic, so technically Celtic will still not have clinched the title.

Should have mentioned that, of course, after the OF game and our killie game, it doesn't matter a toss what we do since celtic just need one more point, so it's not really like Rangers will hand the league to Celtic if they beat us at Fir Park.

  15. 24 points left for grabs just now and Celtic are 21 points ahead. so if they beat rangers next week then they are 24 points ahead of rangers with only 21 left up for grabs. However if we beat killie then we will still be 21 points behind celtic, so technically Celtic will still not have clinched the title.

  16. If we can manage to scrape 2 victories from the Aberdeen and Kilmarnock games we could see ourselves in a great position. Some games for our close rivals coming up could help us.

St Johnstone have some tough ones, St Mirren, hearts and Celtic which could see them drop a few points

hearts with the Hibs derby game, St Johnstone, and aberdeen have 3 tough matches,

Dundee Utd would probably seem to be the one to get closest to us althought hey do play rangers today but followed by games against hibs, dunfermline and aberdeen i don't see them dropping too many points basedon their recent run of form. However having said that aberdeen do seem to be a bit of a bogey team for them having beaten Utd twice already this season.

So C"MON THE WELL lets get into thi sberdeen team and put another 3 points on the board!!!!
