  1. EK's statement is correct

It is now certain that a europa cup place will be won by the cup winner or Runner up unless Aberdeen somehow make it to the top 6 and the final

If celtic win cup then aberdeen or hibs will take lowest euro spot. ( Unless aberdeen end up in a top 6 poition higher than the lowest qualifying spot )

Obviously if Aberdeen or hibs ( or St mirren or hearts ) win the cup they get highest qualifying berth.

if St Mirren or hearts get beat in the final They get nothing since the winner ( aberdeen or hearts ) will take highest berth.

  2. I like Murphy and he has got talent but find it hard to see how anyone could argue against your point on the big games.

Either him or the coaching staff have to figure out the problem and fix it. I am glad he still plays with us and I think he can still contribute for us but to be fair to Humphrey ( who got dropped eventually ) I think it's it's time to drop Murphy and put humphrey back in the starting line up.

Thats why we have a squad of players, to spread the load and replace the off form ones with the on form ones. No shame in that. they all go through their ups and downs. Murphy just needs to find the trigger to move hi sups and downs on to a higher plane.

  3. I think humphrey has palyed himself into a starting position so would be surprised not to see him start on saturday.

For the cup game i had a bad feeling about it before hand but despite our personel issues for the forthcoming game I think we are going to take 3 points.

Poossibly because saturday was one of those days

    1. Horrendus officiating decision

    2. Dreadful defending

    3. Missed penalty

    4. Injury to key defensive player

    5. reduced to 10 men

    6. Played really badly

    7. Got our tactics all wrong

..........and Aberdeen hung on for a 1 goal victory.

Surely we can't have 2 bad days like that in a row??

  4. Based on some conversation in the shout box today I am pasting the information below from SPL website. Apologies if this is elsewhere in another thread.

Hopefully this will not concern us anyway but................

It seemed to have been said that if one of the top 5 wins the cup then all top 5 teams will be in europe. ( said before the rangers situation ) That is not the case. ( according to below ) If Celtic win the cup then Hibs or Aberdeen will be in Europe. What It doesn't tell us is, what happens if Hearts ( assuming they stay in top 6 ) win the cup?? I am assuming, due to lack of any statement, that the runners up will not qualify for europe in that case.

So, not surprisingly, first order of business for us, is to get points tally that secures 5th place thereby ensuring european football, since Rangers will not be in europe. Then same for 4th then 3rd then second.

As many have stated we do need to take one game at a time so this is more of a "check off" list after each week, where hopefully we earn some more points and our rivals have one less game left to catch us.

    European places 2012/13

Scotland's position in the UEFA rankings at the end of 2010/11 was 15th, meaning that five clubs will qualify for European competitions next season:

~ The 2011/12 champions and runners-up enter the Champions League in the third qualifying round.

~ This season's Scottish Cup winners enter the Europa League in qualifying round four (play-offs).

~ The third-placed club in the SPL go into the Europa League third qualifying round.

~ The fourth-placed club in the SPL go into the Europa League second qualifying round.

~ If the Scottish Cup winners have qualified for the Champions League, then the SPL third-placed club enters at QR4, the fourth-placed club enters in QR3 and the cup runners-up enter in QR2.

~ If the Scottish Cup winners and runners-up have both qualified for the Champions League then the fifth-placed club in the SPL qualify for Europe, going into the Europa League at QR2.

  5. altohugh we do need to get our players tied up for next season if possible for european football. Then afte exiting europe get some money for any that transfer. I accept that we are a stepping stone to bigger clubs but as stated elsewhere numerous times we are a "selling" club. That means we need to benefit from our players moving on and not let them go on free transfers.

  6. Rangers should be shafted on 2 counts and not be in the SPL

    1. If they liquidate then new Co. should not be in SPL

    2. If they get CVA and continue as is they should be relegated as punishment for illegal payments to players. ( such as happened in Italy i think )

So while all this heartfelt concern continues to pour in from media and politicans with repsect to the financial position of the team and worry over job losses I wonder what ther position is if asked about the cheating? is that to be overlooked too??

The whole thing stinks and shoul be sorted out now. Remains to be seen if the other teams have the balls to do it. Although stil a long way to go in this story, the CVA depends on agreement from creditors ( incl HMRC, right? ) interested to see how that goes! not sure if any precedent been set in dealings with other clubs or businesses.

  7. Not sure i follow that Logic El-pidge. ( assuming rangers are out of europe )

If cup winners are from top 5 then we are already in europe. Since we have already secured top 6(5) finish.

If cup winners are out of top 5 ( hibs, Aberdeen, Ayr, St Mirren ) then we need to secure 5th place. With 27 points still up for grabs then we are a long way short of securing 5th place.

Did you forget about the 5 post split games??

  8. Surely they can come up with some sort of deal to keep the players for the european effort and then seel them once we are out of europe and still get a decent transfer fee as well as allowing the better palyers to move on up? probably easier said than done, I imagine.

  9. Magic!

Although, still nothing guaranteed yet. Dundee United seem to hit a right good run of form. 9 goals scored - 0 conceded in the last 3 SPL games. 10 points of a gap with 27 points to play for. Still a lot of goals to be scored and games to be won for us.

    Bring it on!

.......And they play rangers next. Not sure how I want that game to go. Rangers win probably would be best.

I think it is more important that we keep Dundee Utd and the teams below us at a distance than it is to catch Rangers. We do have to play them twice so currently within our control to catch them without help from other teams. So all in all I just want to see Dundee Utd, Hearts and St Johnstaone drop all the points they can regardless of who they are playing.

  10. hopefully the players are excited about european football and are glad to be part of a good team. Each of them will get their turn eventually ( and more than one turn ) everybody won't play well all the time plus, as mentioned with suspensions and injuries it's up to each player to sieze the chance, once they are in starting line up, to play well enough to stay there. Once Craigan goes back in then Clancy may find it hard to get back in. But, again he will get another chance at some point.

  11. Told my fiance that we couldn't go on our honeymoon on the 19th of May because it's cup final day and we're not out the cup yet.

If we do make it, and win it, I don't know what would be the greatest day...

    18th May - Wedding

19th May - Motherwell win the Cup

that will depend on who you are talking to and who is listening !!

  12. i also think that Celtic ( lennon ) didn;t so much claw back a 15 point deficit as mush as Rangers threw it away. I put that more down to Rangers than Celtic. When you are behind a team the only way you can catch them is by them screwing up. Admiteddly you have to win your games but you can't make up the defecit the team in the lead has to give up the defecit. ......

Unless of course the games you have against them cover the defecit....................and also read into my statements, we are 8 or 11 points clear in third, no one can make that up only we can throw it away!!.............We have 2 games left against rangers, therefore we can make up a 3 point defecit.

  13. i think, now that we are shooting more from around the edge of the box and beyond it will help us break them down. Also with the options we have in attack I think they will struggle to nullify all of them.

As I look back through their results, they do not score many, they have struggled against lower league opposiiton in cup games ( probably cause they don't score many goals ) and third intersting thing i noted was the fact that they have beaten dundee Utd twice this season. So maybe they will do us a favour the last game before the split and beat them again!!!
