The top half dream is dead. Long live the battle for 8th.

    And make your choice...

If we can beat Dundee, and hibs don’t win, plus Aberdeen beat Livingston that would set up a cracker of a pre split weekend with Aberdeen v Dundee and Motherwell v Hibs. All four teams playing for sixth spot. (Also assuming Dundee lose to Rangers in their midweek game)

Edit: though Aberdeen would have to win by a cricket score to get 6th

  2. Need at least a draw but preferably a win to keep our chance of top 6 alive and then see how other results go. Sounds like Miller will be out but I think we have enough cover in midfield despite also not having Slattery and Paton available. COYW!!

I thought the ball came off the Aberdeen defender before it hit Theo’s hand??  His hand was in a natural position for jumping. The response/ decision is a complete farce!!!!

Just watched it again and it didn’t hit Aberdeen player but there is still no way that was a deliberate hand ball. He’s jumping and there’s contact between the two players but Bair’s hand is in a natural  position for what he’s doing. Deliberate hand ball my fkn arse!!!  Ridiculous that multiple officials can call that deliberate hand ball.

  5. I was already over here before administration times so not 100% sure exactly what happened but seems like we spent a lot of money buying players and giving them high wages in anticipation of them performing. I’m not so much in favour of repeating that but more in the way of having funds to help us thru years where we incur losses and also to enable us to offer competitive salaries to players we want to Keep. Having said that i mean with respect to teams in Scotland other than old firm

In my view Hammell was the wrong person at the wrong time more than Kettlewell. SK kept us up last season and for that he deserves credit in my view. It's also not easy to say what other people who applied for the role did or didn't have as attributes compared to SK and why the club felt that SK was the better option. It's not something fans will be told.

SK also got I think it was two games as caretaker manager and from recollection we won them both - so that had to go in his favour surely.

Also just got us our first win at Ibrox in top flight league in 27 years so he has something about him. I think he will turn out to be a good manager for us. The more experience he gets, I’m sure the better he will become.  For sure he makes errors, probably overthinks some games but I think his methods, philosophy and personality will stand him (and MFC) in good stead.

Top 6 is beyond us and even before yesterday was always going to be a huge ask. 7th spot will also be very ambitious and I think 8th is a more realistic target. Thats about our average historical perch. I think Aberdeen will have just too much about them and will claim that though. In their last 2 games they've tightened up considerably at the back as we've seen.

I can see us scrambling 2 points from our next 3 games. St Mirren will be a tough one - don't expect them to come to Fir Park and play open exciting football. They'll sit back and fight for supremacy in the midfield. As we saw yesterday, thats not our type of game. If we score first though, that might help us considerably.

Top 6 not gone just yet. Need to rely on other results and win 3 In a row (or maybe win 2 and draw 1) so I agree it’s perhaps not likely but by no means dead and buried, yet! 7th is quite achievable. Any team can beat any other team on a given day so for me it’s all still up in the air

Glad you found the IFAB stuff helpful. I'm not saying all the rules are always sensible, especially to anyone who has played football at any level, but it is perfectly obvious that many of the so called experts who we hear on Sportscene and elsewhere have either not read the Laws, or choose to ignore them because they are stuck in the past, or simply have an axe to grind.  Reading the IFAB instructions does have a drawback though. It really highlights how uninformed and arrogant our referees are.

I thought the wording around the handball was pretty Decent, trying to cover it best as possible. Especially noting that hands/arm in a natural position is different depending on the movement of the player. So jumping, sliding, running, tackling, being pushed or falling etc are all different. In essence, or the spirit of the law reads that you get penalized for the following:

    1. deliberate hand ball

    2. The ball hits your arm/hand when your arms are in an un natural position in order to make yourself larger.
    3. Accidental hand ball that puts the ball in the net.
    4. Accidental Hand ball that results in the same player putting the ball in the net with another part of their body.

none of these applied to our goal or to our PK claim at end of the game. Unfortunately the officials only got 50% right.

That thought did cross my mind which is why I hope Motherwell publish any explanation they are given. If that reason is given, then as you say, the ball is burst. I really do hope our Board don't just let this be brushed aside. Imagine that decision denying Celtic or Rangers a goal. The media and Clubs would run with it for weeks.

Sad though it sounds, I actually went and reread the IFAB Laws re hand ball just to make sure my understanding was correct. Clear as day. On another point. Anybody thinking the Celtic red card at Tynecastle was harsh needs to read IFAB re dangerous and reckless play. Despite the flack they got from media and ex players, the officials that day only made one error and that was in awarding Celtic their penalty. I despair for Scottish Football because things are not going to improve.

I went and looked after seeing your post and as mentioned the officials have either deemed it as deliberate hand ball by Bair or just Fkd up by not knowing the rules. Another item I noticed is that it is an offense to to move into a players path in order to obstruct, block or slow down or force change of direction when the ball is not within playing distance of either player. I see that happen a lot now where defenders will do exactly that and yet they get away with it all the time now. I’ve really only seen this become more common this past couple of seasons.

I just thought they must have changed the rules on that but apparently not. The refs have decided just not to call it.
