  1. No you are right. Usual biased nonsense from the tabloids. Print a headline which matches your agenda and then twist the story to suit. Only on this occasion they havent even bothered to do that very well.
  2. I think we do all appreciate that. However, given that they cant win either way, why is it so difficult to vote the RIGHT/FAIR/SPORTING way? Also the TV money was 35% of our budget last year when we finished third, and the club dont work out their sums on the basis we will finish there every year, so the actual drop in revenue will be less. There maybe a small short term loss on the basis of the TV contract, most fan surveys estimate in the region of 200-300k, however I think that can be made up at the gate and thru the Well Society if we do the right thing.
  3. Im up for it. Live down in Ayrshire so the only chance I get to discuss this with Well fans is on here. However all the Killie and Ayr fans I have spoken to are of the same opinion. Killie fans especially are raging at the attitude of their chairman and rightly so. I would be ASHAMED if our club was party to voting newco back into the SPL and short of making rash statements about never going back it would certainly take away something about how I feel about the club. If we can do anything to try and influence this we should. Just tell us when and where.
  4. LOOK AFTER THE GAME, THE MONEY WILL FOLLOW. LOOK AFTER THE MONEY THE GAME WILL DIE! This is not empty rhetoric. It is already proven fact. Our game has been dying on it's ass for 20 years because of the 'greed is good' philosophy of the SPL driven by the Old Firm. No amount of pleading about the harsh realities of business will make me feel any different. I have no wish to see our club harmed but for the long term future of Motherwell FC and the Scottish game..... THE ANSWER IS STILL NO!
  5. Talk is that if the SFA take over we will have 1 ruling body, league reconstruction (4 leagues down to 3 - one less season for them to climb back) fairer voting/revenue split. If true, could be what we have all been looking for and allows The Rainjurs the possibility of only 2 seasons out SPL.
  6. 2 of the best players I ever saw in a Motherwell jersey.
  7. It has to be no. Apart from all the other arguments, if we dont enforce sporting integrity here when can we? We would basically be saying neither Rangers or Celtic could be relegated as we need their money too much. Sorry but thats not sport. In addition, if we let them in and apply tough sanctions, then relegation could be a real prospect for them next season. What do we do then? I accept there will be less money next season without them, but not the 'terminal' figure the establishment junkies are predicting. If we do the right thing here we WILL all survive and Scottish football will at last get the chance to get its house in order and build a brighter, fairer future. A yes vote will see the continuation of a slow terminal descent into oblivion.
  8. The difference was £900k I think the figures were Celtic £2.9m for finishing first Them £2.5m for finishing second MFC £1.6m for third. clearly weighted in favour of the top two. This needs to be renegotisted to STOP the gap from growing and allow greater competition, not less. Thats why the figures for a TV deal are sh**e. The biggest losers out of the TV deal collapsing will always be Celtic and Rangers and thats why the so called free press in this country tell us that it will be a disaster. A smaller TV deal without Rangers more equitably split would result in a little less money for each club but not insurmountable. It would also help CUT the gap between Celtic and the rest. And thats before you even start looking at other ways to improve the game for the paying punter.
  9. It would be worth a substantial lease back fee to newco over a 25 year period. If the 5 players listed are worth more than the £5.5 million on their own then the liquidation fee for sale of assets is a joke. (remember they have another 35 players on their books).
  10. We are all WELL UP FOR IT! On a side note, did anyone notice on tonights news the values were announced for Rangers players re-negotiated move on fees and they would apear to be more than £5.5 million. Does that mean Green gets Ibrox and Murray Park for free? Also, where have they found the money to pay everyone their full wages this month? Creditors shafted AGAIN!
  11. Whilst I can understand both sides of the argument, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to change our game for the better. The game is dying the way we are going. We MUST uphold sporting integrity even if it weakens our club in the short term. John McBeth is spot on. Look after the game the money will follow. Look after the money the game will die. Rangers (ia) are living proof of that!
  12. Apart from the fact Mrs Doubtfire would be his manager! He's about as popular with Leeds fans as Brian Clough!
  13. Well, now the season is actually over and have a little time for reflection I went for the housewives favourite! Very close between Lasley and Jenno for the most consistent/influential/missed when not playing categories and both picked up a few costly suspensions but I think Las's goals just edge it in his favour. A few of them were crackers too!
  14. Stephen Craigan. Pretty much a cameo of everything we've come to rely on over the last 14 years. Great way to bow out. Enjoy your retirement Craggs youve earned it!
  15. Big thanks to Craggs for 14 years incredible service. Ultimate professional and a great example to any young player on and off the park. Motherwell FC's most capped player ever and great ambassador for the club during some pretty tumultuous / successful times. All the best for the future Craggs. You'll always be welcome at Fir Park.
  16. Mind that time the Well were beating Dynamo Kiev at Fir Park. Whit a night that was.........
  17. Should we start a campaign to get Motherwell out of the SPL and apply to the Bundesliga, it would appear the rest of Scotland is holding us back! Lol!
  18. Well if you are going to buy a cake, you might as well eat it! I actually think its a mixture of all the things mentioned and I dont think you could put them in order of importance. Clearly people want prices to be lower and to watch their football at regular times but most would trade away one or t'other for a winning team and/or one thats good to watch. My circumstances are slightly different cause I stay in Ayrshire so I tend to prioritise the games I attend. Obviously if the team is playing well you are more likely to make the effort.
  19. Was actually quite encouraged listening to Steven Thompson on Radio Scotland. Came across very well and seemed to genuinely understand why fans feel so strongly about this. Given his comments it was crystal clear that all the other chief execs are acutely aware also. However, he made a good point about players existing contracts and clubs legal obligations in that regard and the difficulties clubs would face in the short term should the SPL vote as the fans want. Some clubs could end up in real difficulty if they sever the umbilical chord, even though they know a lot of what they are fed through it is toxic. On the other hand, if newco is voted back in you COULD have the ridiculous situation of Rangers being one of the few debt free clubs in the league with the SPL voting in new rules to prevent any of the other debt ridden clubs following the same route! I get the sense that some clubs NEED to vote Newco in or sign their own death warrant, therefore they will HAVE to come up with sanctions that are palatable to their own fans. I was originally in the no newco at any cost camp, however, if it is going to put half our league out of business, then maybe a compromise could be found, however, the sanctions would have to demonstrate REAL punishment.
  20. How about lower pricing, acceptable k/o times AND attractive passing football? (we will take a suitably punished Newco and fairer voting rights etc as a given! lol!)
  21. Hopefully he can be encouraged to stay at Fir Park for a couple of seasons to develop before gettin a big money move to the EPL. Young players need the experience of regular first team football. Hopefully he is well advised. Regardless he will leave with our best wishes.
  22. Just watching the german footy on ESPN. Dortmund organised a controlled pitch invasion for their fans to allow them on to celebrate winning the title. Players got their medals and trophy in main stand and celebrated in front of supporters. If the germans think its ok.......
  23. Do you think the style of play has had any impact on that though? How many times did we have larger than normal attendances, only to play pish fitba or fall flat on our arses? If we had played well/been more entertaining would any of those extra supporters have been encouraged to come back?
  24. We started the season trying to play football but as the season has gone on we have had an over reliance on the long ball to Higdon to get us up the park. On the whole it has been effective but not pretty. Anyway, the point was, do people think the manager should put more of an emphasis on entertainment to get punters paying at the gate to in turn help him improve the squad?
  25. Taking the whole Rangers argument out of the equation, I think the most disappointing aspect of the season has been the poor attendaces at Fir Park given our lofty league position and Champions League qualification. There are obviously many reasons for this, the recession, unemployment, gate prices, live tv and fixture scheduling all play a part. However, I think our style of play has contributed greatly to this as on the whole we havent been great to watch. Today, however, we proved that we can play attractive passing football AND most importantly be effective and get results. Now I realise over the course of a season a manager has to be able to change personel and tacts for different opponents, but given our 'alleged poverty' I cant help thinking how many more bums on seats we would have had if we had played more passing football and less route 1. Obviously cant guarantee that we would have got the same results, but if Stuart McCall wants to have more money to keep/freshen up the squad, surely this should be a consideration. Thoughts?
