  1. Depends when the game was played. You cant ignore the fact that some games are just less attractive than others for a whole host of reasons. If you want to put more bums on seats you need to look at pricing. Theatres give reduced rates and group booking offers for midweek/matinee shows. Holiday companys drop their prices outwith school holidays. The Friday night experiment appeared to be successful. Whether it was financially for the club, I dont know, but lets try different things. Test the market, see where it takes us.
  2. Dynamic Pricing wont work. Cutting prices might. £20 for a WC Qualifier on Friday night but we are paying more than that for an SPL game and Scotland games are now £32 for a seat that doesnt have a shite view. Maybe not comparing like for like but Scottish football is overpriced for the quality of the product. Increasing the quality is a long term project. Cutting prices and giving fans better value for money could be done overnight. You could look at fixing costs for games on a case by case basis however. St Johnstone at Fir Park on a freezing Tuesday night in Feb clearly gonna draw less than say Hibs or Aberdeen at 3pm on a Saturday. Cut the price for the former. Standard prices for the latter?
  3. A new roof and safe standing for the East would seem a sensible lower cost option. Always thought we could have reintroduced safe standing in the old enclosures in front of the POD, although wouldnt generate the same atmosphere due to height of the roof.
  4. The only way could get near affording a new stadium is if someone came in to buy the ground Fir Park stands on. Until that happens I cant see us going anywhere. Wouldnt want to move away from Fir Park but if we could make enough money from the sale and move to the 'Craig and build a Scandanavian style stadium then I think I would feel as if we had retained some of our soul. Cant see it happening any time soon though. Most likely limp along using the Cooper and the South.
  5. Bought OSB yesterday. Think its a decent read for a quid and I quite like the different characters which give the fanzine a bit of identity. Dont think these should be changed at all, although I think some fresh contributors taking on some of the characters would freshen things up a bit and take some of the pressure off MJ. Can only imagine the hard work required to get one of these to print. I think most posts should be Motherwell related but need not be exclusively so. We all love football and there will be some stories which transcend club loyalty such as zombie fc or harry potters scotland circus. Would be good to try and inject some more humour as that will always shift copy but thats down to the contributors to supply material. Anyway, keep up the good work Matt, it is a Motherwell institution. If I can think of anything interesting to write I will give you a shout.
  6. Well, that was a waste of diesel! Shouldve stayed at home in Ayrshire. Never mind, at least I picked up a copy of OSB to read tonight while X Factor is on!
  7. Slight diversion from topic. Not a regular buyer of OSB mostly because I havent been a regular attender at FP for a good few years as my daughters have been growing up. Can anyone enlighten me as to what happened to Wherever You May Be? Did it morph into OSB? Am I right in thinking many of the contributors are one in the same? As for the future of OSB I think most of the posters above have covered it.
  8. PMSL or should that be SMSL!
  9. FANtastic! Cant run cant jump, all he does is score goals! Lol! Delighted for the big man. If we consistently played to his strengths imagine how many he would score!
  10. Just watched the game on Alba. I can understand the frustrations given our deficiences were laid bare for all to see again. However, I think we should retain some perspective. Despite the gaffer not really needing to state the obvious, Celtic ARE better than us in every single position bar in goal and even there it is a close call. With that it mind I thought we started the game ok and limited them to very few clear cut chances. Our big problem is that we cannot guarantee that we wont ship a soft goal and true to form we managed that twice. After that we dont have a plan b because if we open up we will just get a doing. The second half again started ok but the sending off kills the game. I dont know what the manager can really do about that. The arguments that he shouldnt have started Cummins in the first place and that his team selection was wrong in a number of areas is fair enough. Its certainly not the team I would have gone with, however, the contention that McCall is a bad manager is wide of the mark IMO. He may be too cautious at times. He may have his favourites and get his team selection horribly wrong at times, however, despite all these things he would seem to be doing better than 10 other SPL managers at this time with one of the smallest budgets in the league. Time to take a deep breath. Put a very bad week behind us and focus on backing the team next week against one of our main rivals for 2nd spot.
  11. Should be in the team every week. He never hides, regardless of how he is playing. Unlike Humph and Murph.
  12. What about QOS, Annan, Peterhead and Berwick? Do The Rangers not have bigger more expensive squads than them? They still managed to get creditible results. I like Stuart McCall. He is doing a good job. But those remarks are just a cop out. With our budget we have no right to expect to be beating the old squirm on a regular basis. But with our league position over the last year we do have a right to expect that our performances and results against them to be better than they have been.
  13. Our record against Rangers is awful but its not because of the managers loyalties. His record against Celtic is just as bad! Im afraid to say it, but just dont think enough of our players have that big game winning mentality. The manager has to take responsibility for team selection and substitutions but not sure what he can do to change that.
  14. Had one with his left foot in first half but it went wide.
  15. Hateleys shot in the first half. Ojamma had one in the 2nd. That was it.
  16. Ring the changes. Time to show the team that no one is guaranteed their place if they have a shocker. --------------Randolph------------------ Hateley-----Ramsden----Hutch-----Angol Daley-----Lasley------Law------Murphy ------------Higdon----McHugh-------
  17. Only one man with pass marks. He stands in the middle of our goal.
  18. Havent read all the posts but has anyone mentioned the Thug McCullochs elbow in the 2nd half? Think it was Cummins that got it in the face. Should have been a straight red. Wouldnt have made much difference but think someone should "grass" him to the SFL.............
  19. Totally embarassed by that like everyone else. Was surprised by the starting 11 and think the manager has to take some responsibility for that. Cummins was always gonna get bullied by McCulloch and he did. Kerr was never gonna be quick enough against Lee Wallace. Unfortunately Aird was even quicker. Rangers weakness in defence is at right back yet we dont start Murphy on a huge pitch where he would have plenty space and Hately returned to type in the midfield berth with a poor display which was no great surprise. That said, the players really have to look at themselves and ask how badly they wanted that tonight. It was obvious how up for that game Rangers would be. Our lot should have had the desire to match that but they didnt. Hammell had probably the worst game I think I have ever seen him play and Humphrey caused their first goal and never wanted the ball after that. Really disappointing to be out of the cup but the worst part is how much fuel and sense of entitlement it wil give the Orcs. Time to ring the changes for Saturday.
  20. FFS. Has no one on here ever listened to an interview with any other football manager? Try listening to SAF, Mourihno or Wenger before a big game. They all do it to deflect the pressure off of their own team onto the other side. Christ, McCoist was even at it this morning as well. If he was saying the same thing in the dressing room I would be worried but McCall is a winner. He will be desperate to put one over on his okd team, not least because it might give him a chance of getting the job when McCoist is gone. I know our results against them havent been good especislly at Mordor, but our last outing there was decent as were one or 2 performances at the Arc. The playerss have to believe and take the responsibility when they walk on that pitch. Intae thum!
  21. Id go with this. Murphy will be smarting after being dropped yesterday and he will enjoy the extra space on the bigger pitch. With the state of their defence I would fully expect Murph Humph and Henrik to cause absolute chaos.........but only if McCall takes the shackles off!
