  1. Given our new wealth, we should be capable of matching that bid. We do need two strikers to come in, still. There are no goals in the squad as it stands...
  2. This is the crux of the issue. I know that many on here will disagree with you however you're opinion is more than likely the view shared by many who would otherwise be on the fence about attending games. Football is an entertainment game first and foremost and quite Frankly, it is not entertaining to watch hoofball dross which Robinson specialises in. I understand we reached two cup finals, but let's be honest, a few special moments apart (such as Louis in the league cup Semi) we have been absolutely shite to watch for the past few years. The exception to that was the backend of last season where all of a sudden, we looked to have an emerging core to the team yet we've either pissed away the chance to hold it (such as delaying the contract offer to Hastie) or actively touted it out (Turnbull). We've also lost McKinstry and now the other young boy before we even get to see them be Motherwell players. This hand to mouth existence is bloody draining and could've been averted, even by holding on to Turnbull for another half or full season, to give the support something to buy into. I'm not criticising Turnbull, it's the managerial and directorial decisions which are, by in large, demeaning an already dwindling support. It's why it's absolutely essential that we re-invest a. chunk in the playing squad, otherwise your opinion will be the prevalent one.
  3. Very true. Aryibi (if returning) isn’t a natural goal scorer either...
  4. As was said a couple of posts earlier, were very clearly missing goals, creativity and quality
  5. True, but I would be surprised. It's a huge step up and it will take time for him to get up to speed.
  6. With Turnbull finally away and our first friendly in 4 days ahead of the first Betfred game in 10, it's safe to say that we need players and we need them quite urgently. At the moment, the team is looking like: ---------------------------Gillespie Tait---------Gallagher--------Dunne-----------Carroll RW-------------Campbell-----Sloth--------LW ---------------------------AM----------- -----------------------ST Subs: Carson Hartley Grimshaw Maguire Donnelly Hylton Polworth Long Scott Johnson I'm assuming/hoping that we are still looking for ways to offload Johnson. Sloth isn't the combative type of Gorrin so that'll need to be considered as an addition in the middle of the park, too. We need quality, desperately.
  7. True, the issue is that it needs to be 4 stick on starters which will require reinvestment
  8. Are we signing Lafferty? Seeing this banded about online. Would completely compound an utter bawkick of a 36 hours
  9. Given that this is a done deal, immediate focus now turns to the club. What will be done with the cash?. I like many others believe we are bereft of quality and probably need at least 4 players (winger, 2 strikers and central midfielder) which can significantly increase the standard of the group and that means reinvestment Of the cash. I’m now expecting Burrows to come out with a statement to the fans about such planning. We need to a route forward and to engage our own support and it needs to happen now.
  10. Exactly, however we aren’t competing with Aldreds parent club for domestic trophies year after year
  11. Not, but we will if we consistently replace with poorer quality than what’s leaving. its not only about being relegated, it’s about quality and entertainment value, which (second half of last season apart) has been woeful since Robinson arrived; and I include the cup finals seasons in that.
  12. Better yet, we could a actively tout and encourage him to other spfl clubs and tell them we would be willing to accept 100K (ignore the other 500K we’re due) and sign someone From Gateshead to replace him.
  13. Perfect. I look forward to our new status as a relatively wealthy Scottish club (especially now with Cadden also likely away), languishing in the championship after a shitfest of a 19/20 season. We’ve just or are in the process of bagging 4M+ from Turnbull and development fees for Cadden and Hastie (the later a little while longer in coming) however this bank balance can be used to sustain as after 0 significant squad reinvestment sees us picking up smaller and smaller crowds.
  14. In the morning light, this situation looks even more short sighted and bewildering than it did last night. Discussed this one with my father last night and his short take on it was that “it’ll drive even more fans away” and I can’t diasgree. We’ve built our entire marketing package for the new season around the ‘young team’ yet we appear more than willing and indeed enabling to disintegrate it before it’s even started (also now reports of McAleer away), therefore what the club have been talking about has become redundant almost immediately. We were in a situation of not immediately requiring to service debt thus flows comments are a little bizarre, considering most larger clubs haven’t begun doing their business yet. This isn’t a move to drive up the price, this is a move to signal that he is going to Celtic, long and short. I saw one comment from flow to suggest that the use for our new found wealth is to be debated however that quite frankly is utter shite. Our preseason starts in two weeks and with the best will in the world, if you’re prepared to sell our best player and biggest asset on the cheap, you better have a plan on what to do next; same in any industry. An overall disillusioned support are only going to be satisfied with one thing now and that is faces coming through the door whom they either know or have proven pedigree, a failure to do that and we could see a lower opening crowds than ever before. This is a squad already bereft of quality and who’s one spark of, was Turnbull. With that now gone and no obvious plan of what’s next, I’m deeply concerned about next season and the clubs mentality. Yes, the stadium need work and I’m sure the academy needs and deserves money however I, like many others, pay to the well society and attend matches to see a decent team on the park and be entertained. I don’t expect to watch Barcelona however I also don’t expect to watch the Conference league south or indeed the Scottish championship in 2 seasons. Edit. A second point of discussion. We have quite clearly, brought in some chunky sums from player sales over the last 18 months. Moult, Hennegan, Kipre, Hastie (TBC). We’ve yet to see any of this reinvested in the playing squad in terms of bringing in players with a better base level of quality than those above when they were originally brought in. Shouldn’t that lead us to believe that we’re highly unlikely to see and detour from Robinson’s original targets which are inevitably Lower league English players, even with this higher lump sum.
  15. I can’t wait to see how we go about utilizing this new found wealth to bring in 5 nobodies from the conference league south
  16. I’m aware. We’ve all been here before yet I still cannot stand it when it’s those two
  17. Correct however we’ve had our flirtation with finals under this method already and unfortunately couldn’t make it over the line. My concern is now that it’s inevitably going to take a tumble
  18. At the end of the day, we're all Motherwell fans but the resignation to mediocrity is bloody depressing. Consistently being happy to press re-set and start each season with untried and untested and hope for the best wares off after a while and I suspect I'm not alone in feeling that way. The same on here pronouncing the sale of Turnbull are by in-large those happy with non-league signings. Personally, I'd like to see the best players possible play for the club (at least Turnbull next season) and to my mind, that means a decent level of quality underpinned by what is a relatively strong youth academy. Unknown lower league English Boys supported by the academy isn't what is going to win us a trophy (finally), that is what got ICT relegated... We need quality within our means and that means strategic use of budget rather than another bloated squad and the next Sammon or ATS.
  19. This is the issue, it doesn’t always have to be that way however. That’s a strategic choice by Robinson/the club and one which is pretty baffling at times
  20. Hmmmmmmm..... once again. I’m sorry, but the signings so far are leaving me more than a little concerned. We finished last season with a strong core of a young side emerging (assuming on keeping Cadden). Contract expirations we’re largely kind to us and I like others felt we should be bringing in quality over quantity. Some relatively experienced and decent level players to bring in some guidance for our own younger players. Thus far, outside of Gallagher and Polworth, we’ve brought in a lot of journeymen from the lower leagues of England whom are untested In Scottish football (and before anyone starts, League 1/2 isn’t at the same standard as the Scottish top flight). Some of these boys look like good athletes which is what is essential at that level down south, but to my mind, we are crying out for on the ball quality, Albeit in limited numbers, to aid McGuire and Livingston etc. Through games and help players like Cadden and Campbell kick on to the next level. So far, the jury is out and Robinson appears to be repeating history all over again.
