Nail and head Steve. Hindsight is a great thing, as Alan said, if he had a crystal ball I’m sure he would have had the shirt on sale for the final.

This was one of the initial ideas put forward for this season (to be worn on the game nearest our anniversary). As I said in a previous post there are lots of obstacles in the way before this would have been allowed to happen. You need approval from the SFA/SPL, and permission from your sponsor to wear the shirt without the logo they have paid good money for. The two games closest to our birth date are against Celtic, one at Celtic Park and the big one at Hampden. I'm not sure if Commsworld would have been too keen to allow us to wear a sponsor free shirt at the national final, and in my opinion Celtic park is not the best place to celebrate our anniversary. Not to worry, I'm sure the club will have something suitable planned pre or at the start of next season to celebrate our 125th birthday.

Motherwell will end up voting for what’s financially best for them. If that means a 10, 12 or 16 league set up so be it. If the figures don’t add up, you can be certain we won’t be voting for it!

The shirt is different in many ways Lip. 1. To start with, the shirt is constructed from heavy knit polyester rather than the thick cotton usually used in 60’s replica style shirts. 2. The top is short sleeved, your current “Wark” replica is long sleeved. 3. I have redrawn the MFC script so it’s as close as possible to the original embroidered font used on our late 60’s/70’s kits. This is a lot harder achieve than you may think, as constructing a font from scratch (even three characters!) is tricky to get right. Especially when good references to the original badge font are scarce. The one used on the current Wark and Pettigrew replicas is miles away from the original font. 4. I had no say on the actual shirt design, but for me this is the one shirt that most people will associate with Motherwell Football Club. At the end of the day it’s all about opinions, but we should at least be grateful we have a club shop who cares about the quality of it’s merchandise. When I was lad supporting the Well (cue Hovis music) in the 60’s and 70’s you would struggle to find anything Motherwell related. In my opinion, when it comes to shopping for all things Motherwell, we have never had it so good. As you yourself have proven (or should that be Provan) with your purchases from the club shop.
