  1. Went for Dunne once again. The time they were breaking on the right and had two free men centre and left we looked like going two down. Dunne showed magnificent pace to get back and clear the danger. As for McHugh I think he does a great job almost as a centre half in front of the back three. He wins lots of headers that might otherwise be our three centre halves that would be going for. Praise too for Tait who performed well in yet another position.
  2. Big dilemma for the media. If it is three live games then what game will they leave out? To my mind the best two games are ours and Aberdeen V Killie. The arse cheeks games should be a formality and a bore but no doubt both their games will be on TV. And as for the Texaco Cup in 1971 it still annoys me. I remember getting kicked and slapped as we moved through the shed round to the other goals at half time in the first leg at Tynecastle. And also the Hearts cloggers under McDonald in the eighties were a despicable lot. Always hated them for that team. Still we did beat them in a replay after the post Phil O'Donnell draw at Tynecastle.
  3. Wasn't there today but once again it seems like fine margins to decide the game. Last week against Partick we had a scramble in the box and nearly scored. The ball was kicked off the line and Partick went up the park got a free kick and scored. Today at 1-0 Carson makes a great save and we go up the park and score -2-0 game over. That's why I don't get super excited when we win and go overboard when we lose. However a cup final, a 1/4 final and another three wins needed at the start of February for 40 + points and guaranteed safety in the league, I think every fan of our club would have been happy with that in August.
  4. There can only two contenders if you go by ability and longevity. Hammell had the best first touch I have seen in a defender. Instead of heading a goalies kick out he would step back and kill it stone dead then make a pass. Even in the last two games when he came on he looked class if a bit slower. As for Joe absolute genius whose rubber legs made him the best tackler ever. He was also two footed and often played on the right. It was the seventies and eighties when Old firm bias was even worse. Joe never got a cap because they picked McGrain at left back even though he never played there for Celtic. Boyd McMillan and McKinnon were good with McKinnon the best in my opinion but none played long enough to be considered. It's Joe Wark for me.
  5. Fine margins decide games. If Ciftis effort early on had gone in and not hit Cerny on the leg and Mains lob had gone in we would have won easily. Apart from a brilliant block by Dunne they never looked like scoring in the first half. We have a shot blocked on the line they go right up the park get a free kick and our defence shuts off and it's 0-1. Thought the back three were great with Kipre the pick of them. Cadden continues to disappoint. His crosses never get past the first man. There is no creativity in our midfield especially when Tanner is having an off day. As for Thistle what a horrible club. Time wasting from the start which became laughable after they went ahead. Not helped by a weak ref. Football is supposed to be entertaining and for one team to actively try to stifle that is a disgrace.
  6. Aldred has been a good signing but his biggest impact has seen Cedric up his game. He has been outstanding since he came in. I wonder if Cedric thought his place was under threat. I am not sure who lost their man at the goal. It might have been Cedric as Robinson blamed a young player. Also thought Dunne was excellent once again. Campbell and McHugh did alright defensively but don't have the spark to unlock a defence. While it was not going too well for him I was surprised Tanner was subbed as the two opportunities we had in the first half were created by him.
  7. This forum gets worse. Posters asking for the managers head then being negative about the manner of wins against Accies and Ross County. Now some are debating whether our goal today was over the line. Maybe they wish it was not given so that they could have good moan about how refs have it in for us and then go on to get into Robinson and call for his sacking. Thank goodness for Andy P and Kmcalpin whose posts are usually pretty sensible and objective. Not being at the game today I will ignore the usual negative posters on here and wait for their view for a more realistic take on how the game went
  8. Went for the much maligned Dunne. I thought he was excellent today. He won a lot of headers and his pace got us out of a couple of difficult situations and his passing was much better. Special mention to Tait who is having a great season. His fitness level lets him bust a gut to get forward and then back. He is one of best two footed players I have seen at Fir Park in a long time and this means he can play on either side and defenders do not know which foot he is going to cross with. Hartley and Carson being back means we are so much more organised in defence. Tanner was the only one who looked like he could create something. Doubt if we would have scored without the penalty.
  9. Apart from ability there is also the personal life of players. It was rumoured that Moult's wife wanted to go back to England. Rose has an American wife and a new baby. From what I have heard Carson and Hartley's families are still based in England. Players like all of us have families and their happiness will be a big consideration for the players. So there might be departures that we don't expect.
  10. I challenge anyone who has ever posted on here to name our four best players this season and not say Carson, Moult, Hartley and Cadden. Frear who was missing today might well be number five on the list. A club like ours with the wages we pay cannot lose the best players and hope to perform at the top level. It is unfortunate that the games are coming thick and fast we have had to play three games in a week without them. Not time for a mega panic unless the injuries are long term. However it is clear that we need a goal scoring replacement for Moult. Fisher does not seem able to buy a goal and Sid has been a disappointment. Newell seems to have impressed today but he is a young player and we cannot rely on him. We all know that whoever we bring in will be a gamble. Hopefully he will hit the ground running.
  11. I suspect we will sell Moult in January. If we can win two or three more games before the end of January we will have 30 points and then another three wins without Louis will give us 40 points and ensure we are safe from relegation. If we allow him to go in the summer for free there will be no sell on clause. If we sell him in January we will put in a big sell on clause and if he goes to league 1 and does the business a championship club will come in for him and it will be kerching just like Marvin Johnston.
  12. Four points from three really tough league games. Not bad when some thought we were looking at five league defeats in a row.
  13. When it went to 3-1 the important thing was to avoid injury and red cards. Moult went off early I hope he wasn't hurt. Anyone there who can let us know.
  14. My emotions after that were all over the place. Joy, frustration, anger and pride. I really thought when we scored that we were going to be the ones that stopped this phoney invincible rubbish. Frustration that we lost another non goal but above all anger. I could not believe that Sunday could be repeated but ten times worse. It is doubtful that the pen on Sunday changed the result but last night not only was the decision worse it robbed us of two points. Everyone though should be full of pride for the performance of our team. After a terrific effort on Sunday they came out and got to right into their faces again. Great defensive performances again from Tait, Hartley and Kipre. Alan Campbell showed what a prospect he is and got stuck right into Brown. The fitness levels of the whole team must be phenomenal. I don't know much about where Carson has played during his career but they must have quality keepers in England if his level is Hartlepools. Fast making us forget about Ruddy and Randolph. Our manager is making a great name for himself. The last two games have been a tactical master class from him. On Sunday we played a diamond in mid field and last night it was 433 and both worked. We also have our 352 so we have plans AB and C and he is not scared to change things. I just have that nagging worry that he could be off soon maybe to Ireland manager. Please please get Hartley signed up permanently before Blackpool realise what they are missing. Oh and back to anger again. Who at our club made the decision that allowed Tommy Sheridan to make the half time draw and talk about supporting Celtic? Thanks for that. At least the tannoy doesn't work in the East stand and we couldn't make out his crap.
  15. Thought that was pretty predictable today. When I heard Thomson was to be the ref I knew it would be all about him. Reckon we played quite well especially without the ball. Maybe a bit lacking in composure when in possession. Comparing the semi and today I thought Celtic had a lot fewer clear cut chances than Rangers had in the first half. Fair play to Craig Gordon but on another day Louis header might have gone in and who knows what could have happened. The penalty incident was far away from us but the red card was a body blow. Now having seen it on highlights it was a scandalous decision. When we lose a pen to the terrible twosome I always ask would that have been given in the other box? I think not. Would a Celtic player be sent off ? No. Remember if a ref gives a wrong decision against Rangers or Celtic they are pilloried in the press for days. They might even get their windows panned in! Give a bad decision against any other team and it gets a brief mention and we move on. So Refs are intimidated and lean towards the big two. Celtics domination and chances after the sending off are meaningless. I thought Carson, Tait, Hartley and Kipre were immense. Grimshaw and McHugh gave the ball away too often when we were in possession. Cadden, Moult and Bowman ran their guts out. Tanner looked as if he could do something when he came on but the sending off made his contribution too short. Any way on to Wednesday and I hope Sinclair get pelters from the East Stand.
  16. Seven points gained after we have gone behind. Says it all about the character of this team. In the last couple of seasons we rarely came back after losing the first goal. Onwards to the semi final with great hope that we can do it.
  17. Voted for Hartley. Cant believe we sold Heneghan for 400,000 and got a better player for nothing. Thought Tait had a great game. How two footed he is, able to cross with his right or left foot. Campbell great again and thought Bowman ran his guts out. He is great at getting us up the park and the short time he was stuck out on the left wing between Rose and Frear coming on I thought we lost that ability to get the long ball controlled. Onwards and upwards its great to be a Well fan.
  18. I thought that was a very big performance from us today. After the two Aberdeen games it was important that we performed against a side that will be around the middle to bottom of the league. I thought they were terrible and can't decide whether that was because we were so good or they are just rank rotten, a bit of both I suppose. The stand outs for me were Kipre, Hartley, Tait, Cadden and Campbell. Special mention to Bowman who might not be the best footballer but boy does he run his guts out. At half time someone near commented as the subs were warming up that last year there was always a couple of kids who would never get on now we have seven players who could all contribute if they were sent on. Hartley was my man of the match. Never missed a thing, scored and set up one and talked Kipre and the rest through the game. To think we got £400,000 for Heneghan and got him in for nothing -some business. Tait was a close second.
  19. Its not so much the pricing that annoys me but Hampden itself. In my last four visits there I have had a poor view twice. In 1999? I was at the Scotland England play off game and was seated about ten rows from the front in the east stand where we will be for this game. I was a pitch length from the near goals and had to view the centre of the pitch through the goal nets. As far as what was happening when they play was at the other end forget it. My next visit was the 2005 league cup final and I got a worms eye view as my seat was three rows from the front in section I. A rotten day all round. For the semi and final in 2011 I got good seats high up to the side but still behind the bye line at the west end. As least you could follow the play. The fact that you buy a ticket and get an allocated seat that could be in the front row or back row for me means the tickets are a lottery, especially for the east stand. If you can afford it go for the section J or I and try and get as far back as possible.

My dad took me to that semi final. Absolutely brutal tackle and my hatred of all things Rangers stems from that day. The half back line of Aitken Martis and McCann trips off the tongue of every Well fan of that vintage. If I remember correctly McCann was highly educated man with a university degree in languages.
  21. Some of the chat on here just shows how some players can do no wrong in the eyes of some and others are condemned for doing similar. I am one of Kipre's biggest fans but he was at fault for their second goal. Robinson said as much in his post match interview. Dunne got done by a good 1-2 but it is still doubtful if it was a pen. The tinted specs though will blame the steady player and back the flamboyant. We all loved Cedric's run at the end but it does not hide the fact that he is raw and will make mistakes. On the same theme Carl McHugh has gained cult status mainly because he was the player we were missing last season and if he had been playing we would have been further up the league. When he did come back he played very well but that was at centre half. I feel he has been our poorest midfielder this season yet he is immune from criticism and Rose is the player most are picking on. I would suggest that the midfielder whose place most under threat is our captain. However as far as the game is concerned that is one we would have lost last season. The spirit and belief in the team is great. Someone earlier in the thread said they watched the game on Alba not knowing the score and when we went 2 down they fast forwarded. I also watched it not knowing the score. I didn't give up because I believed we were well in the game and if we scored next would give it a real go. I wouldn't have had that feeling last year. We have a goalie who commands his area, a set of strong, physical defenders and I think Hartley will be a good signing and leader. There are great options on the bench as the last two games have shown and we have King Louis up front. Just one word of negative about him. He needs to cool his jets as far as referees are concerned. He ran fifty yards to argue with the ref at the penalty and got booked. We cannot afford him to miss games for silly bookings.
  22. I suspect Kipre might be our next big sale. He is huge and mobile. One of the highlights for me yesterday was when Killie brought on Jones the winger who ran riot for 30 minutes in the 3-1 game at the end of last season. The first time he got the ball he ran fifty yards with it from his own penalty box doing step overs on the way. Cedric stepped up took the ball off him so cleanly and strode forward and started another attack. Pure class.
  23. Really had the fear about that today. All the positive posts on here pre match it just looked like the typical day when our club would let us down again. The first half was so so and at half time I thought we would blow it but I also remembered how our manager has changed thing before at half time and he did it again. Dunne was having a mare with his passing and Hammell 's first pass down the side to Tait set the tone. His distribution was much better. Then Bigi came on and we looked much more of a threat. Up to then our midfield three all were too similar with none of them prepared to break forward. Campbell became a huge influence on the game winning second balls and bringing others into the game. Kipre what a player absolutely outstanding. Bowman looks as if he got a new brain and another goal will only help his confidence. When the play was in front of us I noticed how Hartley was talking all the time, he looks a real leader and could be an improvement on Heneghan. When Hartley went off and McHugh went back to centre half we lost a bit in midfield despite McHugh not having the best of games. So now on to two of the cuddly toys of the media, Hibs and Aberdeen. Three more points and a cup semi final after these three games and we might start dreaming of top six.
  24. On what I have seen so far-all home games and the St Johnstone game on Alba-I would pick Rose over Bigi.
  25. How would this work for those who qualify for a concession? I paid £180 for my season ticket in the East stand and many of those around me certainly look old enough to qualify for this price. To hike it up to £300 would be too much for some.
