  1. Attacking midfielders are second only to strikers in terms of pricing and availability. Interestingly, I wonder how Vigurs would have done in a midfield three with Lasley, McHugh or Campbell holding? Perhaps we had the right player at the wrong time?
  2. I'm hoping this will be at Meadowbank, for the purely selfish reason that it is minutes from me via plenty of pubs.
  3. It makes interesting reading, these outbursts.
  4. I hadn't seen that before. He looks fragile, broken even. He has all the attributes to be a fine defender, shame.
  5. I'm guessing that Laing will be on a good contract, considering we were competing with Championship teams to get him at the time.
  6. The fact that neither he or Kennedy have cemented their place tells you everything. Laing looked a really decent prospect when he first arrived, has played twenty six games over a season and a half, but we brought in another central defender who is obviously first pick with McMannus. We will probably have Laing and Kennedy until their contracts expire next summer, which is funds we could really do with.
  7. Compare this seasons squad to last. Barraclough or McGee in charge? Law or Tait? Robinson or Blyth? The only players we'll miss are Pearson and Hall, but most were happy to see Hall go for 200 k. Heneghan, Tait and McHugh have looked decent additions. The thing is, we are being vocal about our financial constraints, other clubs are a lot more guarded.
  8. I missed your valuable insight.
  9. I'd say Moult is a more intelligent plater.
  10. Makes you wonder what the situation would have been if Moult had been fit, hit twenty plus goals last season and Championship or League One clubs in England had been looking for a forward. Johnson is young, a good athlete, but frustrating in a way that Humphrey was. All pace and no end product, all too often. Question is, will Cadden develop into a sought after player in the Pearson mould?
  11. The 'Burrows should follow him out the door' chat is what I was laughing at. Yeah, he has a point about a contracted player and we should receive a fee, even nominal, but if McDonald wants to go then we should let him.
  12. He has got what, another year or two left as a professional footballer? He also has a young family who he might be keen to raise on Oz. I'd rather let him go than have a sulking Scott McDonald hanging about, being negative. He'll be a loss, but, like the Higdon reference earlier, he has done well for us but I'd rather we recruit others like we have this summer. Young, ambitious and with a sell on value.
  13. Just spoken to my mate who owns a 'soccer' academy in Sydney. There seems to be some weight in the McDonald story.
  14. When you have a Scottish Government keen to criminalise all football fans and a police force that are not accountable to anyone, not less the government it seems, why is anyone on here surprised st any actions taken by the police?
  15. Totally agree. Nice to have some clarity on this thread.
  16. Could it be a compensation issue? ie: If we didn't offer him a deal could he have gone to Ayr as a free agent, but now we will get a compensation fee? A bit like Saunders, promising start then a bad injury. Good luck to him.
  17. I'm hoping that McHugh might be that elusive replacement for Lasley and hopefully we can rotate between those two and Campbell for the deeper midfield roles. For the wide roles we have Johnson, Thomas, Cadden, Ainsworth and McLean. Interesting to see which strikers we go with given Moult is out. Blyth has a physical presence which will be useful against some of the other teams in the league. A lot will depend on Hammell. If he is not fit we will struggle on that side. I think Tait will tighten up the right side. No more Josh Law critics...
  18. I actually thought listening to Sutton was more painful than watching the game at Easter Road. You know the mentality of a person who, upon arriving in Glasgow to play for Celtic, spent his first night wondering about a casino asking random people, 'are you a h*n?'
  19. He might not have been able to train for most of the summer if his injury had not cleared.
  20. If this is the squad we are going to procede with then there are questions. Chalmers doesn't look like an able replacement for Hammell, he did okay today but he is not a midfielder. Kennedy seems way off the first team and us in the last year if his contract, the position of Laing is even less clear. Thomas will really need to produce this season, even if he needs to be in the centre. Perhaps Campbell will hit the ground running, I do hope so. I really hope Blyth becomes a good signing and progresses the way that Erwin did. I'm actually quite pleased about our signings, young and with potential. The transfer deadline scramble may well see Johnson go for a reasonable fee.
  21. From TV, Chalmers and McMannus are playing really well. Got to put these chances away though. Rangers don't look much defensively.
