They still nearly got relegated though! And the current situation is better if only because we aren't playing in quarters.

He's 2021 on Transfermarkt but obviously I'd take the club site as a more authoritative source.

CONTRACTED TO 2022 Carson, Lawless, Watt, Donnelly, Lamie, O'Hara, Grimshaw (!!!), McGinlay OUT OF CONTRACT MAY 2021 Everyone else.

I have a friend that is a Falkirk supporter. He's always saying that the club lost it's heart when they scrapped their youth system. For me the youth system has been massively beneficial to Motherwell down the years and perhaps my greatest fear would be that if we found ourselves outside the top tier for any length of time we would cut back or scrap completely youth development.

It's not nothing. It's taken Kilmarnock 10 matches to acquire their last 4 points and they only have 8 matches left. And assuming they did make up the 4 points in the next 8 we'd have to not take a single point for the rest of the season which, even by the most negative forecasts, seems unlikely, for them to catch us. Out of our four fixtures going to the split we have't lost ANY of the corresponding fixtures this season (1 win, 3 draws) and I think it's nonsense to say we are in worse form now than the rest of the season. In fact if you look at the last 8 matches of the relegation candidates it's as follows - Motherwell 10 pts, Ross County 10 pts, Hamilton 5 pts, Kilmarnock 0 pts. We might get relegated but let's put it into perspective. Right now, we have the best chance of surviving of any of the bottom 4.
-
I think the chances of us finishing bottom are slim with a 4 point advantage over three other teams, a game in hand over some and the 2nd best goal difference from 4. So I'm saying the likelihood is if we did go down it would be via the play offs. So you have us losing a play off to Raith Rovers or Dundee?
-
I've seen Motherwell beat Celtic with Jamie Dolan in goals.
-
Can I remind everyone that we are in a better position than any of the other relegation threatened teams? 4 points and a game in hand on some teams. Kilmarnock are on 8 defeats on the trot, we are on two. The last two matches have been poor but I doubt if the rest of the teams are gonna rack up wins in the next few weeks and we need fewer points to guarantee safety than any of them. All the teams below us would bite your hand off to be in our position. It'll go to the post split fixtures and we are going to have to fight it out but are people throwing the towel after two poor results? Have you watched Motherwell before or know the league? Come on!

I'm known to go and watch lower league football so that aspect of it is fine by me, a game of football is a game of football and actually the quality and entertainment of lower league matches is often higher than the Premiership. The big problem is financial and how that can affect the overall running and decision making at the club. If you look at similar sized clubs as Motherwell, say Dundee, Falkirk, Dunfermline or even Partick Thistle they have gone through some depressingly tough times since being relegated. Simply put it is very difficult to run clubs of that size on lower league incomes without massive cost cutting and reductions and I think Motherwell are particularly vulnerable being fan owned. Perhaps we could sustain current investment levels for a season or two but if you don't get back to the top level in that time frame then I think you are looking at a very different type of Motherwell FC. Even then, think about the quality of player we've been able to attract to the club as an established Premiership side and then imagine taking that drop in level into consideration. That alone would be a big cause for concern although it might re-focus our misfiring transfer policy. So for the question 'would relegation necessarily be a bad thing'? I think it would certainly require supporters to recalibrate their expectations on a medium to long term basis and I think it would be more likely to be an existential threat to the club than the rose tinted glasses view of 'romp it and go straight back up'. That might happen, but I think it's less likely than the other scenarios.

And when he did kick a ball it went out for a throw in 60 yards away.
-
In the last three years we've hardly won a game where Campbell was missing, never mind everyone else. But let's be honest about it, St Johnstone would probably have beat us anyway. They have been better than us all season.
-
Par for the course. We've had 1 shot on target 7 times this season and 2 or less 11 times.
-
Before today I would have had St Johnstone D St Mirren L Hibernian L Livingston W Kilmarnock D Pretty confident about the next two!
-
I had us getting a point from this fixture with our first team and that was maybe with a bit of claret and amber in the lens. St Johnstone are a better team than us and they are certainly better than our 2nd string. I said it before with the fixtures we have (and the injuries/suspensions) I think 5 points would have been a decent haul from the fixture going up to the break. It's going to the post split fixtures and there is no point getting upset about being beaten by better teams.
-
The problem is we are playing better sides and mostly away from home in the run up to the split. At least we've shown over the last couple of weeks we can beat comparable teams - Kilmarnock, Dundee Utd, Ross County. Obviously we aren't in a great position but I don't think we should go into melt down if we fail to get anything away to Hibs for instance or even away to St Mirren.
-
This. Going to be a similar situation as when Robinson took over from McGhee and it went to the bottom six split matches. If we can take 5 points from the games leading up to the split that would leave us looking for 7 points post split. Doable but still a bit nerve wracking. Would be a good time to break the Accies hoodoo though!
-
My problem with Polworth is he completely disappears rather than him making mistakes. We've took a hard one today but let's not forget we've won nearly as many matches in the last couple of weeks than we have the whole rest of the season. Honestly, with this group of players, I'd be relatively happy if we take a proper doing every 8th game and win 3.
-
Aggregate score this season is 0-7!
-
10 men, 3-0 down after half an hour or so against local rivals. Aye, this could be a sore one! Think they'll hear the managers loud voice at HT.
-
12 penalties conceded and 6 red cards this season. No very good is it?
-
Normal service is resumed! We really are Accies bitches these days.
-
There's times when we could have played all night and not scored. Tonight we could have score 5, 6 easy. We've got a goalkeeper, we defended OK, we created and scored goals. We're not going to dominate for 90 minutes most weeks but all the signs are there that we are going forward again. Hopefully we go to Celtic Park now with a St.Mirren/Livingston type attitude.
-
Glad we've got Kelly in goals tonight rather than Chapman!

Seen this movie before!
