  1. Top 3 keeper in the league with McGregor and Siegrist.
  2. On this 'logic' Hamilton are much better than us.
  3. Even his stint as manager was before my time but undoubtably one of our all time great players and he always came across as a good guy that never forgot his roots. It's a sad day for Motherwell FC.
  4. Bartley, Pittman, Forrest, Guthrie....I think their full backs have been better than ours so you could have Devlin and Serrano in there. I'd also say Mullin is probably better than any wide player we have at the moment. Efe Ambrose would probably start in our team and are guys like Sibbald, Lawson, Holt, lesser players than Crawford, O'Hara, Maguire, Polworth etc? Don't think so. Crawford is here because he hasn't featured at Livingston this season. If you look at most teams outside the Top 4 you could probably pick 4 or 5 from each that would play for any other team and the reason for that is there really isn't a lot between any of the teams.
  5. I think this is a good time to face Livingston. Often when a team wins a trophy their form drops off afterward. And of course if they lose their confidence will be down. But without wishing to be disrespectful we should be winning at home against Livingston anyway if we want to do anything at this level of football. Livingston are a decent enough team, 5 or 6 of their players would walk into our team, but it's just the reality for us that we need to win home matches against bottom and mid league teams. We have to make it happen and I think we will make it happen. And if we can go on to 35 points and then don't lose at Kilmarnock then I think we are more or less safe at that point. I mean, I think we are already probably safe but that would basically sign of another year in the Premiership.
  6. If you got relegated off 2 defeats in a row we'd be playing in league sponsored by the local corner shop!
  7. Superb result. Major step towards survival.
  8. I'm being troubled by a feelings of lightness of head and giddiness. Should I phone NHS Direct?
  9. 9 league goals in two seasons and nearly 50 appearances. So in a way you are right that his attitude isn't really relevant. Not good enough. Tatty bye.
  10. It's worth noting that Hibs overall home record ain't that great this season although they have won the last three. Hoping rather than expecting but we did get a point last time over there.
  11. How I see it for what it's worth. If correct, and almost certainly won't be, we'd have virtually no chance of getting relegated. 12. Exactly the same formations from both teams as the last match where we dominated the first half completely and came away with a point. Robinson often brought players back early for injury and got pelters for it as it generally didn't work out.
  13. We gotta go in positive. We've got an opportunity here to go 7 points clear of the relegation places.
  14. Let's be honest about this - Motherwell FC have had a very charmed life. We really should have been relegated before and I think under fan ownership it's only really a matter of time before we are relegated. A club of our size and budget just isn't going to survive in the Premiership indefinitely. Even if we escape relegation this season (I think we will) it's bound to happen sooner or later. I just can't see us surviving, say, another 10 seasons in a row in the Premiership. So while relegation is more bad than good, I think we need to think of it as a strong possibility in the immediate future of the club and something we need to be prepared for as supporters and as an organisation.
  15. They still nearly got relegated though! And the current situation is better if only because we aren't playing in quarters.
  16. He's 2021 on Transfermarkt but obviously I'd take the club site as a more authoritative source.
  17. CONTRACTED TO 2022 Carson, Lawless, Watt, Donnelly, Lamie, O'Hara, Grimshaw (!!!), McGinlay OUT OF CONTRACT MAY 2021 Everyone else.
  18. I have a friend that is a Falkirk supporter. He's always saying that the club lost it's heart when they scrapped their youth system. For me the youth system has been massively beneficial to Motherwell down the years and perhaps my greatest fear would be that if we found ourselves outside the top tier for any length of time we would cut back or scrap completely youth development.
  19. It's not nothing. It's taken Kilmarnock 10 matches to acquire their last 4 points and they only have 8 matches left. And assuming they did make up the 4 points in the next 8 we'd have to not take a single point for the rest of the season which, even by the most negative forecasts, seems unlikely, for them to catch us. Out of our four fixtures going to the split we have't lost ANY of the corresponding fixtures this season (1 win, 3 draws) and I think it's nonsense to say we are in worse form now than the rest of the season. In fact if you look at the last 8 matches of the relegation candidates it's as follows - Motherwell 10 pts, Ross County 10 pts, Hamilton 5 pts, Kilmarnock 0 pts. We might get relegated but let's put it into perspective. Right now, we have the best chance of surviving of any of the bottom 4.
  20. I think the chances of us finishing bottom are slim with a 4 point advantage over three other teams, a game in hand over some and the 2nd best goal difference from 4. So I'm saying the likelihood is if we did go down it would be via the play offs. So you have us losing a play off to Raith Rovers or Dundee?
  21. I've seen Motherwell beat Celtic with Jamie Dolan in goals.
  22. Can I remind everyone that we are in a better position than any of the other relegation threatened teams? 4 points and a game in hand on some teams. Kilmarnock are on 8 defeats on the trot, we are on two. The last two matches have been poor but I doubt if the rest of the teams are gonna rack up wins in the next few weeks and we need fewer points to guarantee safety than any of them. All the teams below us would bite your hand off to be in our position. It'll go to the post split fixtures and we are going to have to fight it out but are people throwing the towel after two poor results? Have you watched Motherwell before or know the league? Come on!
  23. I'm known to go and watch lower league football so that aspect of it is fine by me, a game of football is a game of football and actually the quality and entertainment of lower league matches is often higher than the Premiership. The big problem is financial and how that can affect the overall running and decision making at the club. If you look at similar sized clubs as Motherwell, say Dundee, Falkirk, Dunfermline or even Partick Thistle they have gone through some depressingly tough times since being relegated. Simply put it is very difficult to run clubs of that size on lower league incomes without massive cost cutting and reductions and I think Motherwell are particularly vulnerable being fan owned. Perhaps we could sustain current investment levels for a season or two but if you don't get back to the top level in that time frame then I think you are looking at a very different type of Motherwell FC. Even then, think about the quality of player we've been able to attract to the club as an established Premiership side and then imagine taking that drop in level into consideration. That alone would be a big cause for concern although it might re-focus our misfiring transfer policy. So for the question 'would relegation necessarily be a bad thing'? I think it would certainly require supporters to recalibrate their expectations on a medium to long term basis and I think it would be more likely to be an existential threat to the club than the rose tinted glasses view of 'romp it and go straight back up'. That might happen, but I think it's less likely than the other scenarios.
  24. And when he did kick a ball it went out for a throw in 60 yards away.
  25. In the last three years we've hardly won a game where Campbell was missing, never mind everyone else. But let's be honest about it, St Johnstone would probably have beat us anyway. They have been better than us all season.
