This ^^ Anone who seriously thinks we could somehow have 'forced' Max into signing an extended contract is seriously deluded. Some players see playing first team football in the SPL as a good development route to future, bigger moves, some see going to a bigger team with more money (with the possibility of never actually playing first team football). If a player believes the latter, there is little or nothing could be done to change their mind (or that of the people advising them). Not exactly been a golden route forward for Hastie, Erwin or McKinstry, has it ?

In those days though, other clubs couldn't take your players for nothing, even if their contracts were up (unless you freed them). Paying fees was the norm, but you generally got them back when the player moved on (or even profited). Tommy Mclean played about a lot in the 50K transfer market, cause you could get that back in transfer fees from a side a league below you quite easily.

You don't see a lot of him in those clips, but Vid Davidson was one of the most supremely talented footballes I've ever seen. he used to get criticised for being a bit 'lightweight'......but what a footballer he was.

And anyone who's old enough to remember will recall that people used to say that Willie Pettigrew 'couldn't play football' and only scored goals 😁

It's not fair to assume, cause it never happened. He hasn't come close to that kind of tally since 2014, and that was at lower division dutch clubs (second and fourth tiers)

He certainly ran around if that's what you mean, but I can think of very few examples of him providing 'drive'. Phil O'Donnell provided drive, Alan Campbell provided drive. Dean Cornelius did not.

Strikers come and strikers go. Sutton, Higdon, Moult and even Watt didn't score goals before or after their time with us that they did while with us. KVV scored 12 in 59 games prior to joining us. Moult had never scored a goal for a 'league' side. Trust the manager to buy well and remember that previous 'form' isn't always an indicator of how a striker will perform.
