Another superb night at FP and congratulations to all of the players and the manager and his staff. A great result for the club and it takes our club’s profile up yet another notch. Games under the FP lights have always been special for us and this was a fantastic experience especially for our younger fans. I know Freiburg will be a big step up for us but you want to test yourself against big sides. It’s the only way to improve.

Is there any news or rumours about us trying to get a striker in?

Makes the case, not that it needs to, for the club to hurry up and decide whether they intend to stay at FP or move. If it’s the former (and that seems to be most folks preference) then get a plan made for the upgrade of FP asap.

As I said previously on here, we need to cut the players some slack as it’s very often the case that teams that have played an away game in Europe suffer in their first game afterwards but at least we didn’t lose the game. I thought Falkirk went away with exactly what they came for - a draw. The only negative for me is that we don’t have a forward that can lead the line and bag some goals - same as last year. It’s probably going to be magnified this year though because Maswanhise got 19 goals last season and at present he doesn’t look the same player. We need to find those 19 goals from somewhere. Does anybody know if Bjorgolfsson is injured or whether the manager doesn’t rate him.

It was a very good result and hopefully we can finish the job next week. To get that result, the guys managed to overcome a few obstacles: • The pitch was a disgrace; • We were without Williams and Said; • Had to play Regan-Cook out of position - he tired late on but had covered a lot of ground and won the penalty; • Had to use 3 academy players from the bench - who all did very well. After a slightly nervous start I thought we settled into the game and were the better team in the 2nd half. Thats twice I’ve seen young Olly Whyte and been very impressed. I think he has what it takes to become a regular in the team. The only thing I’d say (and it echoes what many others have said) we really need to try and get an out-and-out centre-forward who can get goals. We have a lot of great build-up play but we lack an end-product threat.

Aye and the other 50% is shredded rubber car tyres! One of the early generation pitches and identical to the first one Livingston had. They should be banned from top level competition.

That’s disgraceful. It’s stopping us from playing our strongest side. The same thing happened to two of Havnar’s players - both black. Is this something that is only applicable to black players? The club should make a protest to UEFA asap.

As others have said a wee bit of a mixed bag. Some very good, some good and some bad but on balance a great result at a place where others will struggle. I think it’s worth bearing in mind that with us playing our European ties on Thursdays, especially the away legs, that fatigue will be a big factor in the league games we play afterwards, particularly this early in the season. You see this a lot with teams more used to this than us so I think the players need to be cut some slack if this happens.

I’d really like to see us sign a defensive/enforcer type of midfield player who could handle the knuckle draggers in the league who will go out of their way to intimidate our creative midfielders. Fight fire with fire.

If we’re in the market for a striker, would it be worth taking a punt on Bruce Anderson? He’s scored goals in the Scottish Premiership for Aberdeen, Livingston and Kilmarnock. He’s only 27 and is a free agent so no transfer fee.

When we played them back in 1994 we won the home leg 3-0 and the away leg 4-1 to progress on aggregate 7-1. The object of tomorrow’s 1st leg must be to put the tie to bed by scoring at least 3 or 4 goals so that the return leg becomes a formality. If we can’t get past this round then we don’t deserve to be in it.

Personally, I feel Fir Park has outlived its usefulness as a stadium, fit not only for now, but more importantly, for the future and I would prefer we had a brand new stadium to fit that remit, however as others have said, this is not as simple to achieve as it sounds. A number of clubs have fully financed a new stadium by selling their existing stadium to large supermarket chains. I don’t think that would be possible for us. Fir Park sits in one of the most desirable residential areas of the town and its likely any sale of the land it sits on, may be limited to builders for a residential development. This could be highly problematical (look at the furore that surrounded the siting of a Tim Hortons in Knowetop Avenue) and it’s doubtful such a sale would gain approval from the local council and even if it did, it would not generate the level of income required to fully finance a new-build stadium.

Having all of that money is good and well, however it can sometimes lead to poor decisions on player signings as selling clubs knowing that we’re cash rich can and will inflate asking prices.

By the sound of some folks experience of the “new” seats in the POD stand, maybe the club should put a first aid kit under every one of them.

I’m not complaining, but it’s Interesting that after all the hype about Rangers and Celtic wanting to sign Elliott, Just and Maswanise, they’re both prepared to dole out transfer fees on players from abroad of the level that was suggested they may need to pay us for these players. Not prepared to pay Scottish clubs proper transfer fees for their players but hoping they will jump at the first number THEY decide they WANT to pay. They don’t want other clubs to become financially independent and/or stronger. 😡

I can understand MJCs concerns. To use an analogy - after you’ve tasted caviar and champagne, going back to soggy toast and cold tea would be let down. However, that’s a hazard all clubs of our size face. We had a progressive thinking manager (Bobby Ancell) and a fantastic young team in the early 1960’s (Ancell Babes) but again due to the draw of bigger clubs and bigger wages, it was broken-up. The most high profile players who left being, Ian St John to Liverpool, Pat Quinn to Blackpool and Bobby Roberts to Leicester City. Shortly thereafter Bobby Ancell left and that ushered in the Bobby Howitt era which for me looking back now was probably one of the poorest in our history. I didn’t think so at the time but barring our exploits in the Texaco Cup it was a pretty poor time made worse by seeing clubs of a similar size to us getting a chance to play European football - Dunfermline and Kilmarnock to name two. I just hope history doesn’t repeat itself but we need to give the new manager time to put his own stamp on things. COYW.
