  1. I think, although I'm not absolutely sure, that this photo was taken at Ibrox in the Scottish Cup 3rd round replay 1st March 1961 when we gubbed Rangers 5-2. The 'Well players are Ian St.John and Pat Quinn. The Rangers 'keeper is George Niven and the Rangers defender is Harold Davis. Rangers: Niven, Shearer, Caldow, Davis, Paterson, Stevenson, Scott, McMillan, Murray, Brand, Wilson. Motherwell: Weir, Delaney, McSeveney, Aitken, Martis, McCann, Hunter, Quinn, St John, McPhee, Roberts. Scoring Sequence: McPhee (10) 0-1, Wilson (16) 1-1, McMillan (29) 2-1, Delaney (41) 2-2, Roberts (53) 2-3, St John (68 ) 2-4, Roberts (89) 2-5.
  2. On holiday but followed game on internet. Great result. Clearly we learned from Ross County game. Clear third. COYW.
  3. Just as I said last week - the old Dosser Bandwagon rolls on again. Played there better on many occasions and didn't win.
  4. Like a few others, I tbink Tait is the best right-back we've had at FP for quite a long time. I think he suffers however from our playing a back 3 in a 3-2-4-1 or 3-5-2 formation. Like many managers, Robinson seems fixated on these formations and does not seem to think Tait can fit into either. I still maintain that on the few occasions that we have played with a more orthodox 4-4-2 formation that we have looked a better and more balanced side and that Tait is more suited to that formation. However if you are going to employ wide players such as Seedorf et al then you will need cover in the wide midfield areas which is why the two afore-mentioned formations are used as they employ the full-backs to do this.
  5. I'm not one for blaming referees when we lose but I have to say that the referee did get two of the big decisions in Saturday's game badly wrong. There was no infringement at Gallacher's goal and there was no contact between Carroll and the Ross County player to justify him receiving a second yellow card. For me, the test of such decisions is always to ask "if either of the OF had been in our position, would the referee have made the same decisions?". Experience over a long number of years has shown that the answer to that question is "no". Scotland does not have VAR and will never get VAR. The reason given for this by those who run our game is, that we cannot afford it. I do not accept that. I think the real reason is, that if it was introduced, the "edge/advantage" enjoyed by the OF clubs in refereeing decisions would be eliminated and that is not a desirable situation.
  6. Yes a really disappointing result but hey that's the 'Well way. It has been like that forever. Onwards and upwards.
  7. Like all creative players you need to accept the bad with the good - as long as there's more good than bad.
  8. I think the owner may be trying to recoup some of her outlay for their new main stand.
  9. My, my, how the fickle tide of fan opinion changes! A few weeks ago, Seedorf and Hylton were being singled out as a pair of duds - without being given the time and opprtunity to settle into a new club and country's culture. Admittedly its still early days but IMO they have shown they have the required skills and application to be successful for us. They provide a really exciting dimension that is great to watch and the like of which hasn't been seen at FP for quite some time. Long may it continue.
  10. I see Jamie Murphy's days at Ibrox are numbered. Also Jake Hastie's career development looks like taking a real leap forward - going out on loan to Rotherham Utd in the English 3rd Division.
  11. Sportscene = amateur sh*te!

    Vs Hibs

The stick dished out to Sherwin Seedorf from some on this site is ridiculously OTT and totally unwarranted. He's in a foreign country, only 21 years old and just starting out on his professional football career - today was only his 4th game for us (and he scored) and his 19th in all. Most people if they are totally honest, made a lot of mistakes at their work at that age - I know I did - but didn't have folk baying for them to be sacked. So FFS cut the young guy some slack and get behind him, encourage and support him.
  13. They'll not be long in changing their pricing policy if the away stand lies empty.
  14. Its highly possible this was taken at the Scottish Cup 3rd Round match from February 1961 which finished up 2-2 with us winning the replay 5-2 at Ibrox. I believe the goalie is Hastie Weir and the No.11 is Bobby Roberts.
  15. Given Robinson's recent comments about some of the players makes me wonder whether he was responsible for bringing them to the club or they were "chosen" for him.
  16. I am sorry to have to say it but we are now beginning to see and feel the effects of being a fan-owned club which quite simply does not have a large enough fan base to justify it. We are now quite literally being run on a shoestring. The desperately poor level of player that has been signed by the manager during the past close season are a symptom of this. He is being forced to gamble with players who, although they may have showed a modicum of skill/ability, lack the basic attributes of what is required of modern-day professional footballers in the hope that he and his coaching staff can bring them up to a decent level. While this has worked in some cases previously, there have been more sows ears than silk purses and I'm afraid that the majority of the latest crop of close season signings fall into the former category. It is I'm afraid going to be a long hard slog of a season and one in which I feel we are ill-equipped for the inevitable relegation dogfight that we will end up in with St.Mirren and the Accies.
  17. Friday night, miserable weather, game on TV and Hearts out of form so I don't expect many to trek through from Edinburgh. Home crowd might not be very big either. Be doing well to get crowd above 4,000.
  18. Not a surprise. Naive beyond belief. You just cannot play as open as we did today against Celtic. A much more disciplined approach was required. The goal before half-time took the wind out of our sails and we looked absolutely ragged by the end.
  19. A point away from home is never bad. Livingston had the 4th best home record last season behind Celtic, Rangers and Kilmarnock. Don't think too many teams will leave there with 3 points.
  20. Well fans can be hard to please. I remember when Willie Pettigrew first came into the first team and got pelters for "not knowing offside from his backside." It wasn't that. It was his style of play. He was lightning quick over 10-15 yards and liked to play right on the line of the opposition defence but lacked the experience to know when to spring forward. Mind you he wasn't long in learning.
  21. Typical. Our luck in cup draws continues - only two SPFL teams unseeded (Hamilton & Hearts) and we pull Hearts! Winnable sure but would've been good to get an easier tie to "guarantee" a semi spot and make some money.
  22. First 'Well team I saw - picture from 1964 season.
  23. No sorry but thats Angus (Gus) Moffat in the background.
  24. Certainly the calibre of opposition we've faced so far hasn't been up to much and we were expected to win BUT the point is we did and the players went about things in a professional manner. Contrast that with the results and performances just turned in by St. Mirren, Kilmarnock, Dunfermline and St. Johnstone who were also faced with opposition they were expected to beat but flopped miserably. I'm not a happy clappy nor I am getting carried away by any stretch but it does seem there is an air of positivity on the playing side at FP which can only be a good thing for the season ahead.
  25. Well I'm shocked! The Daily Rabid and the Currant Bun stories about Robinson going to Doncaster were made-up pish. Doncaster just appointed ex-West Brom manager Darren Moore.
