Well fans can be hard to please. I remember when Willie Pettigrew first came into the first team and got pelters for "not knowing offside from his backside." It wasn't that. It was his style of play. He was lightning quick over 10-15 yards and liked to play right on the line of the opposition defence but lacked the experience to know when to spring forward. Mind you he wasn't long in learning.

Typical. Our luck in cup draws continues - only two SPFL teams unseeded (Hamilton & Hearts) and we pull Hearts! Winnable sure but would've been good to get an easier tie to "guarantee" a semi spot and make some money.

No sorry but thats Angus (Gus) Moffat in the background.

Certainly the calibre of opposition we've faced so far hasn't been up to much and we were expected to win BUT the point is we did and the players went about things in a professional manner. Contrast that with the results and performances just turned in by St. Mirren, Kilmarnock, Dunfermline and St. Johnstone who were also faced with opposition they were expected to beat but flopped miserably. I'm not a happy clappy nor I am getting carried away by any stretch but it does seem there is an air of positivity on the playing side at FP which can only be a good thing for the season ahead.

Well I'm shocked! The Daily Rabid and the Currant Bun stories about Robinson going to Doncaster were made-up pish. Doncaster just appointed ex-West Brom manager Darren Moore.
-
Big clubs signing players and then "loaning" them out (for whatever reason) isn't a new concept. When Celtic signed Kenny Dalglish, Jock Stein sent him back to Cumbernauld Utd in the Juniors for a season to "help toughen him up and learn his trade". I think that one worked out okay.

In a word; yes.

Despite the fact he was going to join Celtic I am genuinely sorry that this has happened to young David Turnbull. It must have been hell for him and his family to suffer such a disappointment and to have it reported and dragged in the media the way it was. I hope the operation is successful and that he makes a full recovery even though we will eventually have to lose him. He's only 19 so will recover quickly and with time on his side he will get his big move. I'm also glad that Motherwell stood up to Celtic in this case and let them see they were not going to be bullied or coerced by them or their sycophantic media. I'm certain David Turnbull will have the full unequivocal support of the club and us the fans and I for one wish him the speediest recovery even though as I say, we will eventually have to lose him.

Ah, another reasoned and well thought out response!
-
I take no pleasure in this but I said a few weeks ago that the amateurs running our club would fail to get Turnbull's true value. It looks as though Celtic are seeking to shaft us and we are bending over. Sincerely hope I'm wrong.

Spot on mate.
-
Just another closet Celtic fan.
-
I can't understand why folk are saying he wants to play on a bigger stage. He'll be playing in the same pishy league as he would've been if he stayed with us. He'll just be getting paid a lot more money for doing it. Classic reason why our league is so weak as the OF continue to hoover up any decent players from other clubs.
-
Your last statement may be true but there will be a damn sight fewer supporters paying to watch them.
-
Celtic are doing exactly what Rangers do when it comes to buying players from other Scottish clubs. They float a low-ball price via their favoured tabloid hacks to see the reaction and whether they might nick a bargain. Do to Celtic what Hibs did to them with John McGinn. However, make no mistake, Motherwell will sell Turnbull but IMO they will get nowhere near what he's really worth - the amateurs running the club will make sure of that.
-
Is there not a pre-set formula for these kind of fees?
-
His career could very well go the same way as Paul Slane's. He signed for Celtic in a blaze of publicity. After only playing 1 game he was hawked out on loan to MK Dons, Partick Thistle and Ayr Utd. Last seen playing in 2017 playing at Clyde!! Now finished!! Be careful what you wish for.

I think the silence from FP speaks volumes on this.
-
When Liverpool fail to win the EPL, Klopp will be sacked and Gerrard will be back down the road to Anfield like s*ite off a shovel. We'll see how Hastie likes Ibrox then.
-
Ah, Smudger and Fraser Wishart at Tannadeechee.
-
If he is leaving then good luck to him. He'll need it. Yes he has shown potential but in reality he's achieved the square root of f*ck-all. The road out of FP is not paved with gold. It has been well-trodden by many before him and only a really very select few have ever gone on to so-called better things. If he seriously thinks his future footballing career can be best served by joining any of the clubs that have allegedly shown interest in him, then he should crack on as soon as possible and make way for others. MFC won't crash and burn on the basis of him or anyone else leaving to go elsewhere.

2018/19 Game 24: Livingston (H) Saturday 2nd February
El Grew replied to Yabba's Turd's topic in Club Chat
What a difference from December complete turnaround. Played so well and very pleasing to see. The second goal in particular was a joy to behold and reminiscent of 'Well sides of years past. Alan Campbell looking like Phil O'Donnell with every passing game - great box to box player. Jake Hastie looks a real top class player in the making. The defence looks more sound playing with as an orthodox back four. No failures yesterday. Fair dos to Robinson for recognising the need to change our style of playing. Oh and white shorts with claret socks also reminiscent of Well teams of years past. Lol. Onwards and upwards. COYW. -
2018/19 Game 22: Hibernian (H) Wednesday 23rd January
El Grew replied to MelvinBragg's topic in Club Chat
Talk about Jekyll and Hyde!! What a difference from the cup game. Its great to see good young enthusiastic players in the first team and doing very well too. We've always been a club that produces good youngsters and plays them (Ancell Babes, McCrae, Wark, Forsyth, McAllister, Walker, McClair, Boyd, O'Donnell to name but a few). The only downside is that if they keep this up the scouts will be around FP like flies around a turd. -
We need to stop fishing for players from English non-league clubs and look to the lower divisions in Scotland for potential players.
