  1. I'll second that. I've bought my season ticket and intend to use it, and I'll be renewing. If I only wanted to watch my team play well and win most weeks I'd go to Ibrox or Parkhead or be an armchair fan of the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United or Liverpool. Gloryhunting is not for me. We bottled it big time today and, yes perhaps shot oursleves in the foot. I'm gutted but I'll be back. Fortunately for MFC there's a lot more like me.
  2. The same thing happened last season with both Craig Levein and the Octopus declaring publicly that we simply didn't have the bottle to secure European football. I've no time for these "mind games" as journalists call them.
  3. Well said FC. For me MFC comprises not just the Directors, players and management but fans like yourself, Yir Elder, Rickoza, Well Made, Well Daft, Andy P to name but a very few. Players come and go as do managers and owners but the fans remain.
  4. I detected a difference at the AGM Flow, and was encouraged. A long way to go of course but a start has been made.
  5. I've been going to Fir Park for over half a century now and I'm already looking forward with anticipation to next season. We've had some highs and lows this year, as always, but the quality of football is better than in most years. Fortunately, I can afford to renew and quite frankly life without MFC & Fir Park would be unthinkable for me. At times when the team is playing badly its dispiriting but its uplifting to know that a fair few folk on these Boards, although not all, will go along irrespctive of how badly we play. Give me MFC any day as opposed to OF or Premiership gloryhunters.
  6. Were you at the CIS Cup Final in 2005?
  7. Yes, 3 pieces of good news today. Both John Boyle and Leeann Dempster spoke, at the AGM, of going back to basics and concentrate on our core support. Whilst they didn't go into detail the message was clear. They deserve credit for that - signs at last that the club is listening. The first bridge has been built. The return of the Cooper Stand to our own will be welcomed by many. Overdue perhaps but lets just welcome that and move on. A freeze on season ticket prices is also welcome in the midst of this deep recession. From my limited dealings with our relatively new General Manager she has impressed me with her quick grasp of the problems that many fans have been going on about for some time. I don't doubt there's more good news to come in time. Changed days at Fir Park?
  8. Initially I was in favour of the move but latterly changed my mind. Good to see MFC give the Cooper back to our own.
  9. I hope we get a good turn out on Saturday and cut prices would help us to attract punters. However the Police may not be too happy about any price cuts especially so late in the day.
  10. A good result for us tonight. Rangers must have a reasonable chance of picking up at least a point at Easter Road surely? However for us to have any chance of making the cut we have to beat St Mirren and that will be very difficult indeed. We've struggled badly against them this season and the game's on TV - not a good omen.
  11. I'll be renewing mine as always. Old habits die hard.
  12. When Mark Reynolds first broke into the first team it was at left back. At the time Terry Butcher said he could play centre back, left back or midfield. I'm not Steve Hammell's biggest fan, but I do recognise that his strengths lie in going forward. He is defensively frail and must share a large part of the blame for the goal last Saturday IMHO. His clearance leading to the throw in could and should have been far better and quite a few Main Stand patrons recognised that. Before he left for Southend he was costing us goals and that hasn't changed since his return. If that sounds overly negative, its not meant to be. He has talent its just that I think its better deployed further upfield. Still Mark McGhee is the boss.
  13. I agree 100% about pricing Grew. I'd like like to see a ceiling of £10 put on SPL games but thats a pipe dream I guess. What club is going to break rank with their fellow SPL sides, slash entrance money and put itself at a competitive disadvantage. Even junior games at £5 a throw are grossly overpriced in my book. There's many a fan simply can't afford a fiver in this recession. I'm curious about your view that most games are dross though. I've read this a lot lately in many posts. Dross compared to what? Other SPL games; other Scottish games; senior football in general or compared to games in years gone by? I've watched a fair few Well games in my time and last season was some of the best I can recall....ever. Admittedly the games this term at Rugby Park and Falkirk have been absolutely dire, but I can recall some total dross in the 60s, 70s 80s and 90s. In the 1967-68 season I can recall watching us rack up 21 losses out of 34 league games. Now that was dross!

    Rumour Quashed

Well done Flow for nipping this rumour in the bud. Its not often MFC has acted so quickly to scotch such tales. I know you say that the club doesn't have a clue as to how this rumour originated, but if you do find out I'd be intertested to know.
  15. A very distorted set of highlights from the supposedly impartial BBC. Now I've had time to look at it, Whilst Langfield's save was good it wasn't quite as impressive as it seemed at the time. That said Maguire's finishing was a bit better than Jamie Murphy's.
  16. Undoubtedly a big factor. A year or two back Aberdeen could bring 2,000/3,000 fans for such a game but on Saturday it was a good deal less than 1,000. It was a huge game for them in their push for Europe. As for us - we're not playing particularly well at the moment, the recession is biting and there's more competition from TV football. People also have higher expectations than a few years ago - nowadays, for many, the English Premiership is the yardstick against which everything is measured and thats totally unrealistic.
  17. But does that matter, if he might be at the game as a spectator? As it turned out he was and it had the desired effect.
  18. I don't know that we were lucky as you put it Neil but yes Aberdeen might indeed have gone on to do a smash and grab job and I said so at the time. Considine's dismissal might well have earned us a point. For a good spell in the second half our midfield simply folded in the face of Aberdeen's aggression. Their goal was especially galling. In the lead up the ball played down the wing was clearly out of play and swung back in and MMcG protested about this at the time. Steve Hammell then made a complete mess of a clearance and the rest is history.
  19. Yet again we have proved to be the better team in game but were also not good enough to win. The midfield missed Klimpl very badly and although its had worse games it simply didn't function right. The combination of 3 central midfielders (Hughes, Lasley and McGarry) just didn't gel. I'm not a big fan of Steve McGarry but he had a decent 1st 45 then faded badly in the second. When Aberdeen went down to 10 men we should have gone for broke and thrown on Jamie Murphy but we didn't. Typical again that Aberdeen had one shot on goal following a defensive blunder and it counted. Whilst we created a fair amount of chances, it has to be said that, apart from one great save late on, Langfield could have gone for a round a golf today and it wouldn't have been noticed. All that said maybe had Considine not been red carded then its a game we'd have lost as the Dons were turning the screw just prior to his departure. Last season we were winning games like this but this time round we're drawing them. Chris Porter is being badly missed. Although anything could happen in the last 2 games before the split I really think we've blown it. Hibs are well capable of picking up 6 points whilst we aren't. If we are to beat St Mirren its going to take more than a huge effort - it'll take good defending and clinical finishing.
  20. Certainly the pitch is improving but there was a large puddle in the South Stand/Main Stand corner. Obviously drainage still isn't right in patches.
  21. Once again the traffic control at the junction of Knowetop Avenue and Windmillhill Avenue was a bit shambolic after the match. As usual these days, cars were held back after the game but at 5.15 sharp the traffic warden on points duty simply walked off despite the fact that there was still a line of traffic queued at the junction. Surely with increasing police control at FP this is something that could be sorted? Unbelievable!!
  22. Quite a few clubs have "troublesome" players on their books. How many Well fans would take Derek Riordan from Hibs on a free for example?
  23. Yes, I'd second that Fraz. Why not? If the money can do some good then fine. A nice gesture. If someone could give me a contact I'd be happy to make a modest donation myself.
  24. I'll second that. Standing in a crowd is all very well if you're over 6ft but if you're not it can be a bit of a pain. Not everyone in our support will be rushing to rip out seats. Some season ticket holders could well be turfed out of their seats against their will for example. Presumably clubs would still charge the same amount for standing areas? There probably is a place for standing areas, but IF this initiative ever came to fruition it would have to be very carefully planned, as there will be a number of issues to be thought out.
  25. They're a bit arrogant and delusional are they not? Stuck in a 1980s time warp. What right have they to demand to removal of their current manager and the appointment of a manger with another club?
