  1. Walter Smith has a contract until January after which he will work without one as a favour to the club.

I don't know who he means then. Smith is the only manager I can think of with a contract situation that isn't pretty straight forward.

  2. There are two types of manager we can go for really;

There's the guy who has been around the lower reaches of the Scottish game for a while, such as Ian McCall, who knows the game inside and out, and who will probably display the level of long-term commitment and loyalty that some on here are looking for.

Then we have the guy who is a young up and coming gaffer, who comes in with some bright, new ideas, and gives the place a new lease of life, such as Gannon did.

The problem with these guys is that they are usually more interested in furthering their career than they are in loyalty to a club.

  3. I await the announcement of his departure with relish.

Well, you've got what you wanted.

Now, with no manager in place until after the new year probably, we can look at the likes of Ruddy and Jutkiewicz taking off, with no replacements of a similar standing brought in.

Regardless of Gannons intentions to leave Motherwell at some point, we should have been looking to keep things rolling along until the end of the current season at least.

This carry-on will do the team no good at all.

  4. I hope this decision doesn't come back and hit Motherwell fc squarely on the arse. Which I'm afraid I think it might, I hope I'm wrong on that one.

I get the feeling that it just might do that.

Who can we hope to replace him with, especially with the January window just around the corner?

There'll likely be a few players offski next month, and any new manager who comes in won't have time to see who they need to bring in.

It should have been left until the end of the season, giving a new coach the entire summer to prepare.

  5. Good riddance to bad rubbish. Makes me laugh how the happy clappers have changed their tunes now. Oh yes he's the man to change the club, he needs time, look at the bigger picture. The guy was a chancer at best and all the pish with the media just proves what a total wank the guy is.

I wouldn't be surprised if all the pish with the media and the officials up here is the reason he was looking at other jobs in the first place.

The guy is probably thinking that we are running a mickey mouse league here, and he's not far wrong.

  6. Until this storm all kicked off the media wouldn't give Gannon or Motherwell the time of day, so i'm not really bothered about him not giving them the time of day.

The media are most concerned with the goings-on at Celtic and Rangers, not Motherwell, so i'm happy to continue getting my info direct from the official site.

  7. Dundee United have been decent (5th in the last 2 seasons). They also had a purple patch in the 80's. Outwith that, they have been pretty pish. Dundee United have no real reason to expect to finish top 6 every season, and are not really that much bigger than us.

You don't think there would be more surprise and anger if United finished 7th this season than there would be if we finished 7th?

  8. If we lose the next two games, which we are expected to, the wheels could be well and truly off the wagon and we could find ourselves scrambling about the wrong end of the league.

I don't mean to sound negative, but are we really to be considered as a top six side?

I've always looked upon Hearts, Hibs, Aberdeen & Dundee United as the clubs who can look upon finishing outside the top six as a failure.

Sure, it would be a great achievement to finish up there, but i'm wondering if recent seasons of us punching a bit above our weight has led to some fans thinking that we are bigger & better than we are.

Were currently sitting 4 points clear of Aberdeen who are in 6th position, and i'd look on us still sitting in this position come Christmas as a great half-season, especially considering the circumstances we were in at the start of the season just before Gannon came in.

As far as i'm concerned, we've hit the jackpot with a crop of promising youngsters and another very good manager, and I don't see any point in speculating about his commitment until he actually says something that leads us to believe he's on his way out.

I'm more than happy with how things are going, and i'm looking forward to seeing us challenge for a top 6 spot this season.

  9. “The reason why I didn’t speak to the press was because I was really disappointed with the coverage we got leading up to the game,” he said.

“In particular, one organisation had spun a story about me telling players they could leave which wasn’t the case. Other press then ran with the story, adding statements saying I had told players they could go and started naming names which I felt was totally disrespectful to me and the players involved.

“Some of the players they named have been extremely good professionals or have been injured and have been working really hard to show they’ve got a career here at the club.

“I think it was out of order to paraphrase me and I felt if they are going to be that disrespectful to me, the players and the club then perhaps they shouldn’t get my respect sharing my pre and post match time and thoughts."

    Well said Jim.

  10. I'm definately looking at the half-season ticket deal with the payment deal, and would certainly look at getting a ticket for the entire season if some sort of direct debit was in place instead of a one-off payment.

An idea like this is certainly needed if the club are serious about getting more punters through the gates, and they should be applauded if they decide to go through with it.

  11. surely it would be better if he actually was up front and said which players aren't "earning their wages". at least then everyone knows where they stand.

I don't think he really has any obligation to tell the media anything, especially not the names of players he feels aren't performing.

He could very well have said it behind closed doors, which would be more than enough.
